OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

I am in london canadianmum, congratulations on your bfp.

I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday so will be nearly six weeks. Not sure what they will do at that appointment, might just be an initial chat with the doctor.

Hi everyone, just popping over from the April 07 thread. Congrats to you all on your lovely news!
Just wanted to say that I have 2 packs of preggie pops which I bought when my ms was horrid. If anyone wants them I would be happy to send them on. I dont want anything for them, would just be glad for someone else to use them as they are no good to me now!
Feel free to CAT me if you want them. Hope you are all well xxx

AnguaVonUberwald · 06/01/2007 16:07

Mammyjo, I am sure this is a stupid question, but what are preggie pops?

OP posts:
mammyjo · 06/01/2007 16:29

They are just like lollypops but in natural flavours which supposedly help to combat morning sickness. Never found them that great to be honest but I know some people on MN swear by them. I bought them on a recommendation from someone else and am left with 2 packs. I think you can only buy them online.

missmapp · 06/01/2007 16:44

Sparklygothcat, glad you know what has been happening and hope things look up for you now, i know it must be horrible to be feeling sick but at least its a good sign

I havnt had any symptons as yet aprt from sore boobs and feeling tired, but that could be just the shock of going back to work after the christmas break!!

Hope everyone else is feeling well. I havnt booked the doctors yet, i work 3 days a week so will try to go when im off next week, dont think they do anything round here until 12 weeks, they didnt last time anyway.

AnguaVonUberwald · 07/01/2007 18:28

Poohbear2007, so sorry to hear your news. I hope you feel better soon.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 07/01/2007 21:24

looks like I will be bowing out too. My HCG levles have dropped from 684 to 470. I have a scan tomorrow to see where the baby is and whether I will have to have a d&c or if I will lose it naturally.

SparklyGothKat · 08/01/2007 12:47

i am out. I have had what the hospital call a collasped ectopic pregnancy, so I am no longer pregnant and I have to wait for natural to take its course now.
Good luck to everyone else...

jess1996 · 08/01/2007 19:05

lou031205 · 08/01/2007 21:07

Hi

Sorry to hear your news SparklyGothKat and Poohbear.

I thought i'd give an update:

-Went for scan on Friday 5/01, ?very early pregnancy ?gestational sac
-HCG 804.
-Was asked to return Sunday 7/01, but blood draw insufficient.
-Went in today, more blood taken. Just phoned & HCG today, 08/01 1929.

Nurse sounded surprised & said that it is high for stage of pregnancy (LMP 02/12, so 5+3weeks)?

Anyone got any ideas about this? Don't know yet what next stage is, they will phone tomorrow about another scan.

Louisex

AnguaVonUberwald · 08/01/2007 21:27

So sorry to hear your news Sparklygothcat, and better luck for next time.

Lou030205 - that seems very quick work, what country are you in?

I am at 5+5 and have my first doctors appointment tommorow, then not really expecting anything to happen until week 12 from what I have heard.

My breasts are getting more and more sore and I get occasional light stomach cramps. Oh yes, and have gone off sweet things altogether, which is just strange.

Anyone else, what are you experiencing?

bendybus · 09/01/2007 08:57

Hello everyone
Accoring to BBC pregnancy calendar I'm 7 weeks today . Have doctor appt on Thursday.

Boobs have been sore but seem to have settled down now. Having a bit of constipation (is that related or just the result of all the crap I ate at Xmas?...)

Bit worried about the alcohol consumed over the festive period, but stopped as soon as i got positive test. Have realised now how dependant I am on a glass of wine of an evening...

mia84 · 09/01/2007 09:29

Hello!

I'm very apprehensivley joining you!
I am about 6 weeks pg, but after 2 mc in a year im very very wary. But anyhows, it's nice to have some support isnt it!

Anyone else got really bad wind? i also have a pain between my boobs, not sure if its indigestion? and i think i can feel wind in my back too. Is this ok? never had it before

EdieMcredie · 09/01/2007 14:37

Sorry to those who had to come off this thread

Still having some back ache but it has been coming and going ever since I found out I was pg. Got sore boobs, tender 'down there' and today feel slightly sick. Got scan on fri due to previous mc and my worries that the back pain may be another mc xx

auschick · 09/01/2007 16:42

Hello everyone
This is my very first post - although have been lurking for a while. Have just had a BFP. Have tested times and still can't quite believe it. Had a positive last month and then bled 4 days later, so am a little nervous this time.
I have periods where I'm so happy, followed by hours of worrying that something will go wrong. Justs wish I could enjoy it as I know many people would kill to have a BFP.

jess1996 · 09/01/2007 16:56

I had a tiny amount of pink bleeding this afternoon. It's stopped now and I have no pain, but I'm really worried. I've got an appt to seem my GP later, but I don't know what they can do.

EdieMcredie · 09/01/2007 18:10

Lots of people bleed in pregnancy-about 40% I think. Probably nothing to worry about unless with pain aswell but you are right to get checked out. Please try not to worry.

EdieMcredie · 09/01/2007 18:11

Auschick

Im the same. It would be so nice to be able to get excited but that's the trouble with miscarriage, it takes all that away from you.

auschick · 10/01/2007 08:50

Thanks EdieMcredie. Let us know how your scan goes. Is that a private scan? I'm still trying to work out how it all works over here (I'm new to the UK). The GP I saw yesterday wasn't all that helpful. I can't work out what our PCT offers and what is doesn't. Does anyone know how I can find out?

auschick · 10/01/2007 08:53

Mia84 - wind is very normal unfortunately! It's due to hormonal changes - progesterone increases from memory. I have bad wind too. Am taking it as a positive sign

EdieMcredie · 10/01/2007 09:18

Auschick.

Best to talk to your doc or midwife really. You won't get loads on the NHS to be honest. My scan is on the NHS because I have had a previous miscarriage and my GP is lovely but it is not my local trusts' protocol to scan women earlier if they have had a previous mc. Its up to the GP. Im not sure about other trusts, I think it might be the same. Early Pregnancy Assessment Units all run differently too, mine will only take referrals from GP's and prob A&E too and when I rung and told them about my backache they said I didn't meet the criteria for a reassurance scan (basically because I wasn't bleeding too).

I am a nurse in the NHS and can totally get why they make these rules/procedures, unfortunately miscarraige is so common and the NHS just doesn't have the resources. I think they should, but they don't.

Some EPAU's you can self refer to, ie just walk in and get an early scan: if you meet the criteria. Anyway my GP rang them and managed to get an appointment for me, don't know how.

GP's never say much when you first present to report that you are pg. They will have put you into system, you will get a booking appointment with a midwife pretty soon and a scan for around 12 weeks. The midwife app will be pretty detailed and you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns.

auschick · 10/01/2007 09:30

Thanks EdieMcredie. I'm a nurse too - still on extended maternity leave from my first who turns 1 tomorrow. We have moved to London from Australia. It is quite a different system over there and my first pregnancy was totally managed by an Obstetrician.
I think it makes is all the more scary when you are away from home and all your usual resources. I'll sit tight until I see the midwife.

EdieMcredie · 10/01/2007 10:04

Wow-what area do you work in?

You'll get used to it and this is your home now so soon it will be normal for you!

Do you have any concerns about this pg? Pain/bleeding etc? Or just the usual amount from having had a mc?

auschick · 10/01/2007 10:22

I manage an Accident and Emergency Department. How about you?

No - I don't have anything to be concerned about so far, I'm just a little jumpy after last month. I'll be happier after week 12 (hopefully!).
