Morning all. Hope you all had a good weekend. We went out last night and ate at Nando's - the chicken is lovely, and their chips are the best

Good morning lovely ladies. Excited to have arrived at the second trimester today! Just waiting to start blooming.

I haven't felt bubs move at all - is this normal for first baby? 14 weeks today? I also have really achy pains which I have experienced all the way through - nothing sharp or severe. Has anyone else had this?

Here I am freaking out again. I'll have a right miserable and neurotic baby at this rate.

Juicylucythe2nd · 27/11/2006 10:43

Peacemaker about your mc's. It's such a horrible thing to experience. We've made it past 12 weeks now, so it's looking good for both of us (everything crossed)
I'm still the oldest first time mum then!

Mummym - Here you go:

Charleymouse's thread

Ummmm - Lemon Drizzle Cake - Yum, yum yum.

Juicylucythe2nd · 27/11/2006 10:57

Pinkjenny - I have regular achey pains, occasional stabbing / shooting pains too. Have learned to accept it as part of pg. (although will admit this is a struggle of wills with my immediate reaction of panic!)
I am 14wks tomorrow and have also felt no movement yet.

When are the movements supposed to start?

twelvedaysofchristmas · 27/11/2006 10:59

Pinkjenny, you usually don't realise what the flutters are on your first baby. They don't feel like much. It's perfectly normal not to feel anything until weeks 20 to 24, when they actually start kicking hard!

BTW, if you're dying for a cocktail, ask them to make your usual one (if possible) with less alcohol. I love Caiprioskas, which are squished limes, sugar and crushed ice with a load of vodka poured over. Last time I was out, I explained to the staff that I was pregnant and could I please have a Caipiroska with a single vokda ONLY and extra lime to fill it up. They were very understanding. That way I could have two, as two single vodkas is two units. They were SO nice as well.

Won't work with some cocktails as they are sooo alcoholic, but you can give it some thoguht.

I've felt my little bean move for about 3 weeks now Have actually had in the last couple of days a definate kick - not hard and only once each day but definately not gas or anything. I keep being told its because this is my 3rd I can feel it earlier. I can't wait for my DH to be able to feel movement - this baby is his first and his soooo excited its lovely to see

Pinkjenny · 27/11/2006 11:12

That's good to know - you can't help comparing yourself to everyone else.

Juicy - sounds like you're a bit like me - I rush to the loo every time I get a funny pain - just to check! I think I'm a bit more hysterical than normal as I had some bleeding early on. Actually who am I kidding? I'm always like this.

For any first time mums like me, I have just finished a book by Jools Oliver, Minus nine to one, really enjoyed it - would recommend it to anyone. Would also recommend the yummy mummy survival guide - although its a bit too honest in parts.

Am loving reading humourous pg books - does anyone have any recommendations.

Can't wait for the lemon drizzle cake recipe. I keep having Nigella moments, although that's usually all they are - my ass doesn't leave the sofa.

Juicylucythe2nd · 27/11/2006 11:14

12DOC - My fav cocktail is a Caipiroska too! Will maybe try that out next time I'm out and about.

Frenchsmallfry · 27/11/2006 11:46

Morning all, Just been to see the midwife, all OK and she wouldn't do an internal because of my low lying placenta. Yey if thats the case the placenta can stay put til nearer the birth. Got to be the worse bit about being abroard the mthly internals. I know once you've had kids you tend to just let anyone on in there, and I have to be honest I don't really mind them, but out of choice I'd rather not have a hand up my fanjo.

lg&t, has the e-mail arrived to you, if not I'll try it again?

Pinkjenny I read a really funny book whilst I was pg with dd, again another graphic one, Not sure it might put a first time Mum off though! IYKWIM. I'll have to try to remember the name for you. Keep watching I'll let you know.

largeginandtonic · 27/11/2006 11:47

Ive never had one of those cocktails they sound yum!

Right lemon drizzle cake recipie for those that want it (hope Mars doesnt mind me handing it out)

12oz self raising flour
9oz caster sugar
9oz margarine/butter
4 eggs
3tsp baking powder
6tbsp milk
2 lemons rind only (juice saved)

Blend in a mixer and pour in to a massive roasting tin or large square cake tin. The smaller the tin you use the deeper the cake, so turn it down to 160 or 180 if using a roasting tin. Bake for 30-40 minutes. I used a roasting tin and it only took 25 mins.

Prick the cake all over using a fork when it comes out of the oven.Mix lemon juice with icing sugar so its still really runny and pour over the cake while still in its tin. My house smells so yummy, am off to thank Mars for the recipie.

FSF have emailed you back, very funny

largeginandtonic · 27/11/2006 11:48

I have the jools oliver book, very funny. If anyone wants to borrow it i would be happy to pass it on, it could do all of us by the time we drop!

pebblemum · 27/11/2006 12:02

LG&T (from other thread) It must be our oldest ones ages. DS1 has always been so lovely and polite up until now, guess im lucky to only have one going through this stage, must be horribleto have twins like it. At times i have wondered if im mad having no3 when ds1 is being a pain (and ds2 is so energetic)but then i think of you with your brood and how you manage when you effectively are on your own most of the time and realise its not too bad, havig three must sound like a walk in the park to you

Reading humourous pregnancy books is definately better than reading factual ones, less scary

largeginandtonic · 27/11/2006 12:10

3 is no walk in the park pebble, i remember 3...shudders...I used to put the hoover on for hours, dts were afraid to get off the couch if it was on (they were 20 months old) and dd newborn loved the hoover it sent her to sleep. I actually wore lines in the carpet one day

Would like to borrow the book first then pebble? We could meet up. I forget we live not too far from each other. Do you know playshack next to colloingwood and the big asda? What do ya think?

Lemon drizzle cake very good, baby going mad since i ate some!

Pinkjenny · 27/11/2006 12:17

I'm getting really jealous of people meeting up! Does anyone live in the North West and want to get in touch? Need to find a pregnant friend and stop pressuring my non-pregnant friends to have babies immediately!

twelvedaysofchristmas · 27/11/2006 12:17

Waaahhhaaa. LOL @ LG&T frightening the dts onto the sofa.

OP posts:
Frenchsmallfry · 27/11/2006 12:30

Classic, lg&t. my dd is 15 mths and too is scared of the hoover, but she cries and runs to the door, so it is far too distressing to leave her like it. I have to do the hoovering when she is in bed. Although I do only have a rug to hoover, the whole house is either wood or tiled floors and she is not scared of the broom. Shame.

lupins71 · 27/11/2006 12:48

Juicylucy are we same due date then I am 14 wks tomorrow to due 29th may

Lemon drizzle cake, I must make that - maybe later if I ever get this tidying up done

Been to town xmas shopping again, would have done more but carrier bags were killing fingers and my mum was on the phone worrying about me carrying too much

Chat later, really must tidy up and stop chatting and eating sweets lol

My dd was scared of hoover until about age 2, she used to have to hide in our bedroom with him until i had finished

MKG · 27/11/2006 13:15

My ds was terrified of the vacuum. I would put it on and he would scream himself silly. After I turned it off he would just stare at it until I put it away. Now he laughs, and he loves my mom's for some reason. He stands up with it and talks to it. He's a weirdo.

Creena · 27/11/2006 13:19

Hello everyone.

Poor Charleymouse - Puts everything into perspective, especially as she is handling it in quite a brave way.

I haven't been up to much. Am convinced my bump is actually smaller and less round now. Before, I looked recognisably pregnant but now I just look like I've eaten too many pies. I think I'm feeling some movement now but it's only slight flutterings.

All this talk of Christmas trees and decorations has made me feel all festive and excited. We won't be able to put our tree up until the 13th, though - my husband is very superstitious and thinks that to put your decorations up any earlier than 12 days before or take them down any later than 12 days after means heaps of bad luck. I think he's silly but there you go!

I did do one interesting thing this weekend - I went to Selfridge's and, naturally, bought some KK doughnuts while I was there! We got a box of 12 original and I'm very ashamed to say that I ate three of those. I felt a bit guilty about this until my husband pointed out that, as there were four of us sharing them, I'd only had my 'fair share'. I wished I'd saved one for today, though!

Right then, off to get some laundry and ironing done now. See you later!

Frenchsmallfry · 27/11/2006 13:26

Creena , I should be off to hide if I were you. lg&t may flip when she reads you've eaten KK's. Hope they were really yummy. Def going to selfriges in brum next week.

Pinkjenny · 27/11/2006 15:07

Creena - I felt loads better when I read your posting - my bump comes and goes too. One day I'll look six months pregnant and the next like I've been raiding the cupboard. Which is usually true.

Creena · 27/11/2006 16:05

lol at pinkjenny - I can often be found with my head in the fridge, I'm afraid!

Make sure that you do go, Frenchie - if you bring the kids with you, let them stand close to the glass so they can see the doughnuts being made. Also, there is a mad Italian man who works there - he often sings to the customers and is always really nice to any children in the queue. Yesterday he was handing them free glazed ring doughnuts, which was sweet.
