This baby is still playing funny buggers. 40+2 now, and still hasn't done anything other than pains on and off. Every time I think something may be starting to happen they stop!
Congrats to Olympic and lsf
broody maybe our babies are too comfy?!

slightlyconfused85 · 24/07/2015 09:31

Congrats for all the arrivals! We decided to call our baby boy Hugh - he is a week old today and largely doing well. He had heel prick test yesterday and went bonkers and then was ratty all afternoon but thankfully settled for the night at 10 and only woke for quick feeds. Tiredness is settling in now but proud to have managed my first week as a mum of 2. Excited to read about the next babies. Ps. If you're still waiting I did this: walked down a hill to a curry house, bought a hot dansak, struggled my way back up hill, ate said dansak which was hard as not a fan of curry, insisted dh had sex with me and then one hour later I had first contractions. Just saying....!

broodylicious · 24/07/2015 10:56

Think they must be fattymc! My little munchkin is doing the same - I keep having pains and thinking things are happening...oh but then nothing doing. I'd love to think a teaser in late pregnancy = easy peasy birth and newborn? Haha!

Congrats to all the new arrivals!

Just had sweep no 5! Everything is favourable so just going to chill out today and see what happens. Induction Sunday if no luck.

This is one chilled out baby!

LaLaLaaaa · 24/07/2015 13:12

I always forget this - 41+3, 10 days overdue

broodylicious · 24/07/2015 15:54

Gosh, lala, I didn't know you could have so many sweeps!! Let's hope this one works for you.

Not many of us left now is there?

40+1, had Thai curry last night, bit of fun with the DH this morning, and I just had acupuncture. Like you fatty I'm getting a lot of pains but they always stop. I'm feeling mostly good though, bad hip pain but otherwise mostly fine. Just want to meet her! Tired so struggling to stay upright, which is obviously best for getting everything ready; bounced on ball and sat backwards on a chair for a lot of the day but have given up and am slouched in bed right now!

fattymcfatfat · 24/07/2015 17:56

charlie I'm knackered too, so I've taken to kneeling on a pillow and doing cat stretches on my ball, that way if I cant be bothered I can slouch over it and I'm still technically on all fours.
Just had lamb bhuna for tea...
And broody when having DD midwife said I was dilating slowly when I was getting the on off pains so hopefully something us happening for us, it's just taking a bit longer! and my birth easy peasy, even though she was back to back and face first! I got to hospital at 5 cm and she was born 3 hours later, pushing stage was 7 minutes. I had a tiny tear but didn't need stitches. So fingers crossed that happens again!

MuddyWellyNelly · 24/07/2015 18:25

I'm still here, but "only" 39+3. At hospital today and no contractions and baby still free. Annoyed as due to be induced on Monday and was really hoping I'd have started off by myself. At least everything looks good with the baby.

Congratulations on all the newest arrivals. Thanks

charlieis30 · 24/07/2015 18:28

fatty THANK YOU for saying something positive. Honestly I'm so sick of people's negativity, someone from my NCT class emailed round to tell us all she'd given birth but it was "really traumatic" jeez thanks, the other 7 of us yet to give birth really needed to hear that!

I've been having some stinging sensations round my cervix which I hope is it starting to dilate (at least I'm going to imagine so!) Nothing but positivity from here on in!

fattymcfatfat · 24/07/2015 18:33

charlie the stinging in the cervix usually means dilation or at least getting ready to.
No point in being negative. Every labour and birth is different so why scare others with dreadful tales? Some people seem to love going on and on about how traumatic and difficult it was and never shut up! I just want to scream at times (especially this time as I'm on number 3 I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing by now Grin I'm practically an expert)

247babyonthebrain · 24/07/2015 18:47

Congrats to those who have had their babies. I haven't commented for a long time but seeing as you mentioned positive birth stories I thought I would tell you mine as everyone always tells you 'horror stories'.

First baby, at 39+3 I had a big 3 course dinner, came home and was sick. Woke up next morning with mild period pains and show. Two hours later contractions started and then 4 hours later after quite strong and close together contractions for past hour (every 2/3 mins lasting 1min 30secs) I went to birthing centre and was examined and fully dilated. Two hours later I delivered my baby myself in the birthing pool. Great experience and now baby Matthew is 5 days old. Totally in love. Good luck for those still waiting x

Raines100 · 24/07/2015 19:51

Congrats Olympic and 247. Hope everything going well for you both.

Charlie cervical soreness was how I started with DS2. Just evolved into throbbing and then full blown contractions.

I'm another with 2 very positive birth experiences, so it can happen! I'm just hoping for a repeat, or I'll be most miffed Smile.

Still feeling exhausted. Had 48 hours of pure exhaustion, followed by 12 hours of crazy nesting, and then labour with DS2 about this gestation. Hoping that means my hormones are revving up, but until something else labour-ish happens, it could mean nothing, and I'm just knackered. Who knows? Third time and I bloody well don't! Grin

39+3

broodylicious · 24/07/2015 20:00

Eurgh I hate it when people get all negative and like to tell every little gory detail of their "horrific" birth. Especially when they justify it with "well, i think you should know it's not all breathe out, breathe in, baby pops out in a single push" or something equally ridiculous. Yes, I'm sure it was horrid and hard work - durrrr it is called labour, clue is in the title! - but you've survived, your baby is here, I've got to actually give birth yet!!

Fwiw, My first birth experience was actually super, almost exactly as I wanted so I'm keeping that positivity in my mind.

No point in being negative about it:
a) too friggin late to back out now anyway Wink
b) everyone has different experiences and pain thresholds
c) panic and stress is sure to make you hurt more
d) baby is in charge, the labour and birth will be dictated by them so why get in a flap?!

OP posts:
MissTwister · 24/07/2015 20:52

My birth experience was largely positive - even though it was an induction and hospital instead of birth centre as I'd wanted.

I'd agree with Broodylicious that staying calm and centred is the key. If you panic through contractions it will hurt much more. My Midwife refused to believe I was in established labour (couldn't be checked as waters broke prematurely) as I was quiet but found this really helped.

LaLaLaaaa · 24/07/2015 21:03

Im actually really looking forward to the birth. I've heard lots of negative birth stories but also plenty of positive ones and I think it's important for folk to share them.

I've had pains and cramps now for so long I've given up hoping they will become active labour :(. Had 5th sweep today and just relaxing now and trying to keep my mind off.

41+3 - think I'm furthest overdue now Hmm

MrsFbabyNo1 · 24/07/2015 21:55

I think its all to do with people's personality and emotional resilience when they reflect on their births.

I had read both horror and positive stories beforehand to be aware of all possibilities. I had very positive thoughts for my birth experience....But such is life and baby dictated how the birth went!!

I wasn't sure if I should post my birth story to you all as on the face of it having GA for most urgent c section delivery sounds scary. But I had prepped for it as it was in my birth preference plan (a bullet point that if I was incapacitated that MrF should have skin to skin and stay with baby. Plus I had even slept many nights in a nightie to take unwashed to hospital in case of this too - so baby would have my scent to be wrapped up in - although in the drama the nightie was forgotten about).

I would have loved a water birth, or one of those super easy peasy births Wink , but not as much as I wanted a safe, healthy, beautiful baby and so had to do what the little chap needed.

Completely agree with all of Broody's points! I'm not sure I coped with the labour pain as well as I thought I would (given my intention to be v positive), but maybe cus I myself was panicked / stressed cus of the meconium in waters etc.

So take it from me Charlie, whatever happens think positive and when your baby is here you wouldn't care less.

My birth story is just fab, because it is in fact the birth story I share with my husband and our precious little boy on how he came into the world. Grin and it was all truly worth it.

MrsFbabyNo1 · 24/07/2015 22:02

Anyway, it took us a week to decide his name. But here is Elliott Jude F*er at 1 day old and tonight a pussy cat that is a bit happier to be closer to her new little brother (although makes a quick exit when the crying starts)! Smile

fattymcfatfat · 24/07/2015 23:46

mrsf he's beautiful.
I think meconium in my waters is what made me push DD out so quick! I saw that, knew what it was and decided to get her out. Grin I agree with mindset though. Her birth was easier than DSs when I was a terrified 17 year old!

broodylicious · 25/07/2015 01:08

So bit of an interesting night here. Waters have broken! Been to mlu just to check it was my waters and that baby is ok. Contractions have started but they're really sporadic so we've come home (we were expecting to, we aren't disappointed). Been booked in for an induction on Sunday but really hoping baby will come before then so I can avoid that. What will be will be, though, as they say! Eek!

Raines100 · 25/07/2015 07:25

Congratulations MrsF. Elliott is beautiful!

Good luck Broody. Hope all goes well.

Feeling better this morning. Phew! Can hang on if I must as long as I feel ok!

Sherbet38 · 25/07/2015 08:11

Lovely name MrsF and good luck Broody.

I have news... Little Theo was born on Friday at 10am weighing 7lb 3oz Smile 13 days late and just ahead of of my induction which was booked for the same day!

So I had my second sweep on Wed am and contractions started 4am on Thursday. By 2pm they were about 6 mins apart but are inconsistent in length. Used my Tens machine which was fab. Rang the midwife unit at 9pm but they advised me to try and stay at home a bit longer. Rang again at 2am (Fri) when the pain got so much worse! I went on to be assessed, but they did unless I was in established labour I'd be sent home as there was only one bed.

But it was a good job we went in, as even though I was only 2cm, baby's heart beat was dipping with every contraction. I was moved to consultant led care, where they broke my waters. Then had 2 hours of contractions with gas and air to get to 4cm. They advised me to have a epidural before they used drugs to speed the contractions up, but again the heart beat dipped, do they used more drugs to stop them completely. They decided to prep me for a couple section just in case the heart beat didn't stabilise, which it never did. So had a non emergency c section in the end.

Baby had struggled because he was back to back and his head was bumping against my pelvis. He'd also breathed in some meconium and so had a few lung problems. He's in the neo natal unit, he's had xrays, oxygen and antibiotics. But he's doing well. It's hard not having a cuddle with him yet, but I'm hoping he'll be back with me today Smile

Sorry for the mammoth post. Even though the birth wasn't what I had planned, I feel positive about it, I felt informed and supported. Couldn't fault the midwives or the surgery staff Smile
