It's a girl :-)

Chookford · 27/01/2015 13:57

congrats 5 the girls are coming back strong now!

PregnantAndEngaged · 27/01/2015 14:00

fortywinx I believe it was this one. It's still there for £75 if you want it www.mothercare.com/Philips-Avent-Complete-Natural-Starter-Set/346815,default,pd.html#q=feeding%20kit

5 Congratulations!! Girls are really catching up :)

Shall see what mine is on Friday morning! Exciiiiiiiiiited (but also suffering a bit from scanxiety)

PregnantAndEngaged · 27/01/2015 14:01

That is a manual pump rather than electric though. So it depends what you want. I'm going to try manual before spending a fortune on electric. But I wanted an electric steam steriliser so I can sterilise the bottles quickly and easily :)

Hi all,

Lovely news about new scans coming in - girls evening things out a bit now!

Tranquility - sorry to hear about your dog, sounds awful.

Re placentas, I have been told that I have a low-lying placenta at the moment but many do at this stage and lots move. I am going back for a scan on Thursday when they will tell me more. In the meantime as I am a real geek, I have done some reaserch. Anterior has a higher chance of moving than posterior apparently. If the placenta remains low and anterior i.e. at the front, it can mean that if a CS is necessary, it needs to be carefuly managed as the placenta can be cut through. This can be dangerous and cause lots of blood loss. Therefore, high anterior placenta is usually nothing to worry about in terms of delivery but it may affect your ability to feel kicks at an early stage (which will be the case if it is low or high anteroir). I intend to find out on Thursday whether my placenta is anteroir or posterior. I also want to know if it is partially or fully covering cervix at the moment or if it is simply low lying. I found this link useful:

Can I ask those that are already mums to give some advice about baby baths? I am really confused about whether I need a top and tail bowl, a normal baby bath, a bath seat/support etc....internet is giving me conflicting advice. What worked best for you? Many thanks!

AnythingNotEverything · 27/01/2015 14:25

Croon - I'll try and demystify things a little ...

Top and tail bowls are for daily washes and/or nappy changes if you choose to use water and cotton wool instead of wipes (or at times of soreness). You could just use Tupperware or cereal bowls.

Baths are useful as it's a waste to fill an adult bath to 2-3 inches. Also, you can put a baby bath on the floor in the bathroom or in front of a radiator to save you leaving over the bath. Again, not essential but useful. You could equally just put baby in your bath and have a soak/cuddle together.

Bath supports are more useful as try get older. The hard plastic ones are for nearly sitting babies (so 4/5 months plus). There are some that look like bouncy chairs - sort of towelling martial stretched over a frame. These are useful from about 6-8 weeks, once baby can hold their head better. Useful if you're bathing baby alone. As you can use both hands. Very useful if baby has hair that needs washing (either due to amount or cradle cap etc).

This stuff is great to pickup second hand as it's easy to clean and you don't need it for long. I know some people like to have everything new though.

Hope everyone is well. I've not posted much here recently as I'm feeling a bit anxious and fb seems safer somehow. I'll feel better once we've had our scan (Monday!) and hopefully will know more about my maternity leave and how my job might change over the coming months soon, and I think that will help.

croon979 · 27/01/2015 14:35

Thanks so much Anything, that is really helpful!

PregnantAndEngaged · 27/01/2015 14:38

I love the idea of having a cuddle with the baby in the bath, although be careful because my fiance's mum told me that my fiance's brother used to do "naughties" i.e. poop in the bath and my fiance (who used to be in with them as well as he was also small) used to start screaming because his brother's doo-doo was floating around hahaha. Not so cute!

Jackiebrambles · 27/01/2015 15:02

My DS never pooed in the bath until recently and he's nearly 2! Poor lamb was really shocked when he did (as was I/DH!) :)

I do have many friends whose newborns did though, so its definitely something to be aware of!!

We had both a baby bath and a bath support. The support was lent to us by family. We found both useful actually. Never had a top and tail bowl, we just used a tupperware pot with warm water in!

jazzyjenbo · 27/01/2015 15:10

Chookford... I had it for the first time at 16 weeks. They should prescribe cream and pessary.. If they dont giv u pessary insist! You insert the tablet with ur finger before bed and it absorbs overnight... Its like a miracle.
Dh can use the cream to relieve the symptoms.
So sorry about your dogHmm
Yay more girls!!

With DS, we had a bath support seat that we used in the big bath from newborn. It was great to have both hands free to wash him and he used it til he was 6 months or so. Then we got one of those seats they sit up in.
We did have a baby bath. Think it got used twice and then was used to store towels!

ots · 27/01/2015 15:42

This is what we had.

cuphat · 27/01/2015 15:47

Croon, I know a lot of people say not to bother with a baby bath but we found ours invaluable. We got the fisher price one as it lasts for all stages; it has a material support bit to use when baby is small (so you can have your hands free - great if you're nervous bathing baby), then it has a bar across the bottom to use when baby is a bit bigger so they can't slide down and then you can remove the bar when baby is confident sitting up by themselves. We used ours until DD was 15 months (and she's a big child!) so it has been worth every penny! It is quicker as you need less water than filling the bath.

We bought a top and tail bowl but didn't use it past the first couple of weeks.

Jackiebrambles · 27/01/2015 15:52

Yeah that's the one we had too Ots. We'll have to try to re-borrow that again!

cuphat · 27/01/2015 15:53

This is the one we have, it says from newborn to toddler.

Just posting from iPhone so apologies for not being able to namecheck properly and typos.

Just had 20 week scan and all good with baby Grin. It's definitely a girl (which confirms the harmony test). I know harmony is meant to be very reliable but somehow felt more tangible with sonographer confirming it .

Croon interesting re your comments on placenta- thanks for the link. Annoyingly I have placenta previa. My placenta is posterior. I was told that because I've had a previous c-section this is in some ways good as it means the placenta won't embed in my scar (which is a possibility if low and anterior). However, being posterior it's less likely to move (about 60% chance). I've got to go back for rescan at 32 weeks. In the meantime I've been told no sex, no heavy lifting, no flying and to take things easy. If I spot or bleed I must go straight to hospital and then I would be put on bed rest- so they have scared me a bit but equally there's a chance it may still move. I have to have a c-section anyway so doesn't really impact delivery.

Which other of us June mums have low lying placentas? (Sorry can't scroll back properly).

cuphat · 27/01/2015 16:16

Congrats on your scan iwant! I'm glad all is well. I'd have been pretty confident on the sex with a Harmony test!

Jackiebrambles · 27/01/2015 16:18

I have Iwant! Mine is low anterior and I had a previous section so they are worried about proximity to my scar. It was 11mm away at last scan.

Have an extra scan at 23 weeks to see if its shifted.

Chookford · 27/01/2015 16:30

iwant congrats on your baby girl!

jazzy thank you, and everyone else who answered too!

HexyQueen · 27/01/2015 16:46

Jeez, tranq, that sounds awful. Hope your dog & DH are feeling better.

Great scan news, ladies. It's fabulous hearing everyone's updates. Tho I'm struggling to match FB names with MN names as there are so many of us posting & the threads move so fast with us being lovely & chatty.

Saw consultant today, mentioned I'm only now reaching pre-pg weight of 8 stone at 21 weeks, & was a stone heavier than this last time at 19 weeks & my blunt doc waved his hand & said "do u understand how unconcernered I am about this? I'm more concerned about the other way and them (gesticulating towards the waiting room filled with larger ladies with gestational diabetes). They will have complications, you won't." So that was me told... Being sent for growth scans at 27 weeks (10th march) to check baby is ok.

newbie6 · 27/01/2015 17:09

Hi

I have a low lying anterior placenta and also told they will keep an eye but it's at the lowest grade so it is away from my cervix. I had a previous emergency section and am getting a planned section this time so I'm hoping it will move up but if it doesn't I've been told the same in that I just need to be careful and they will keep a close eye x
