annobal · 31/10/2006 16:52

THere is one called "Mummy laid an egg" that I have heard bandied about. Don't know what it is like tho...

annobal · 31/10/2006 17:25

Actually think Mummy Laid an Egg is meant for 6+. Usborne do one for 2+ called The New Baby and There's a House inside My Mummy.

sputnik · 31/10/2006 17:35

Thanks for the info and link Annobal, will be looking into it.
Saw a ladybird book in the "Toddler talk" series the other day about a new baby but thought it was a bit premature, not wanting to tempt fate etc.
Like the sound of "Mummy laid an egg" as DD is obsessed with mummy birds, eggs hatching etc. after reading "Are you my mother?" and the ugly duckling

Elsbells · 31/10/2006 17:51

Hi there
I am pregnant with my 2nd one ...am 8 weeks. Morning sickness is really kicking in and for the life of me I can't remember what I did last time to help ease it.
Any tips?
It is getting a bit embarrassing running to the loo at work!

As for gaining weight - I gained almost 3 stone w/first baby (he's now 15 months) and don't really want to gain that much this time round but my clothes are already very very tight! HELP!
:-)

magaddict · 31/10/2006 17:54

Thanks annobal, will look out for them. I know what you mean about tempting fate though sputnik, the other day my mum told ds he would be 'having a baby brother or sister soon' and i shushed her up (even though, at 22 months it is beyond his understanding!)

magaddict · 31/10/2006 17:58

elsbells, I gained 3.5 stone with ds (nearly 2) but lost it all within 6 months (and an extra stone that I had been unable to shift pre-pregnancy. with ds, I stuffed my face on whatever I fancied - which was largely iced buns, cakes etc, this time I am eating much healthier (and actually obsessing about vinegary salads - yesterday I couldn't stop thinking about tzatziki (?) but ultimately, you can lose the weight after so am not going to worry too much!

mrspf · 31/10/2006 18:37

I went from 9 to 13 stone when expecting DD through eating for 2 - mostly cake, pizza, and more cake!. Plan to eat more healthily this time as took a lot of effort to lose weight and still 10 stone now

Elsbells - I wore those sickness bands on my wrists (they work on pressure points) last time which helped with general queasiness. Also i took ginger capsules which are good for settling the stomach i think.

Aylesburybird · 31/10/2006 20:54

Is anyone else suffering from major constipation at all? I am, and was suprised to be told by my doctor that even herbal ones shouldn't be taken at 8 weeks! He told me just to bare it, and eat more prunes and fruit. Anyone else got this problem?

Ludgie · 01/11/2006 08:52

I know exactly what you mean. I have been drinking loads of water in the hope it will help but nothing. Now getting confused which cramp is which if you know what I mean.

Elsbells · 01/11/2006 09:34

Mrspf - thanks for the advice on the sickness bands and ginger capsules. Going to try...anything to help, eh?

Guess everyone is right about not worrying too much about weight gain. Time to enjoy the cakes! (if not feeling ill of course) Just surprised that my belly is swelling already. My husband says it just looks like I have eaten too many roast dinners lately.
:-)

Cocobear · 01/11/2006 10:04

Aylesbury bird -- was suffering badly a week ago so asked ob/gyn what I could take. She prescribed glycerin suppositories. I didn't use them as the problem eased of its own accord, though have them just in case it returns with a vengence. The brand I have are British, and the leaflet clearly states that they should not be taken in the first three months of pregnancy. OB/gyn (she's German) said this was nonsense, they're absolutely safe, but don't take anything orally, even herbal stuff as it's not.

I checked this advice out with two more docs, and both said glycerin suppositories were perfectly safe even this early (I'm eight weeks).

So, if it's really a problem and prunes aren't getting the job done, ask again!

marylou23 · 01/11/2006 11:39

Hello! Mind if I join you? I'm due 18 June and it turns out we're having twins (!!!). All incredibly exciting and wonderful (have been through the joys of IVF and am still pinching myself that it's actually worked this time...). Saw two little heartbeats last week (I'm having weekly scans because of fertility treatment) which was incredible, but most of the time I'm feeling absolutely dreadful! Constant nausea, exhaustion, headaches... (and,of course, the tears. I cry at adverts. I cry when I want a bath and I forgot to turn the boiler on. It's terminal, I tell you.) I'm told twins do that to you... anyone got any experience to share (or any reassuring words that this won't last for the full nine months...?!)

PocketTasha · 01/11/2006 11:54

hi marylou, Congratulations! I know what you mean about being emoional, i've been crying over the silliest things too. Pretty sure i'm just have one though! Although i've not had a scan yet. i was just as emotional with my two boys, but it doesn't last. It's just while your body gets used to the hormones!

lilKel · 01/11/2006 12:37

Hiya, the preggie pops actually do keep the sickness away. I find if I eat one when I start to feel sick, a short while later I feel hungry rather than sick and then if I eat, it's fine. Handy to keep when out and about as well. The drops are just as good as the pops and a bit more discreet (people DO give you funny looks if you're at the shops with a lolly stuck in your mouth like a little kid!).

Contemplating elective Csection in order to get a firm birthdate. My mum lives in the US and will need to plan ahead to be with us. This is my second baby, first is almost 8mo old. Thoughts???

moomimin · 01/11/2006 12:55

Hi just popping in from the May thread, wanted to say a great big double congratulations to marylou. I have been panicking anout twins but will find out on Monday when I have my first scan. It's my third but Felt really awful with this pg, and the crying thing I can relate to, Have non ienticl twin sisters too so there is a chance! Wouldn't mind actually it would complete our family quicker. Have you found the multiples threads, they'd probably be able to give you some good advice and support too.

Sorry June girls for jumping in but couldn't resist showing my congrats, hope you are all doing Ok and not feeling too rough. Good luck with all thise scans coming up!

charlyp · 01/11/2006 12:59

aylesbury bird, have also been suffering, have been using sachets of drink - fibogel and senocat which are safe for us in pregnancy and do seem to help keep things moving, i have been having one every other day - basically a drink full of husks!!! had to drive to dorset the other week and felt like was sitting on a big rock all the way there but no movement for 2 days at least now everything feels abit healthier, and i don't feel so sluggish and grim

10 weeks today for me, just had a huge macdonalds in a moment of weekness - i am sure orange fanta is good for the baby, steamed fish and veg tonight ....

roll on week 12 when i finally get first scan and ante natal appointment, has been no interaction with health service professional for nearly 6 weeks now wich seems very wierd

welcome all new joiners and sorry for all those who have left

marylou23 · 01/11/2006 13:04

Thanks guys - will definitely give the pops a go!

Elsbells · 01/11/2006 13:25

Thanks for the advice everyone - Just bought some preggie pops and pressure bands. Hope it works. I was sick all time in my first pregnancy and definitely do not want it to take over my 2nd!

x

Daisybump · 01/11/2006 13:28

What are these preggie pops I keep seeing mentioned???? I'm totally in the dark and dying to be enlightened as I'm suffering from constant nausea. Noticed that it was much worse yesterday when I forgot to take my vitamins; Sanatogen Pronatal (other brands are available!!) and some extra folic acid. Think something in the multivits must be helping.

Looking pregnant already...it seems like such an effort to keep my tummy in...much more comfortable to 'let it all hang out' Trousers feeling the pinch already, but thankfully I lost about a stone recently and still have clothes in the next size up which will help for a while. Last time I bought most of my clobber from M&S but don't think they do maternity now....where's the best for fit and/or value for money...also need short ass leg lengths!!

PocketTasha · 01/11/2006 13:45

Hi daisybump, of course i depends on how cheap and cheerful you want your clothes but last time i got a lot from adsa george (they do short ass length, i'm only 5.2 !) Also do you have a next clearance near you? they can be great. Mothercare aren't as naff with their clothes as they used to be either. They finaly joined the 21st century with there sstyle ideas!

Am i the only one who finds the sickness reassuring? I've been really stressing out the last few days. having bad dreams and really anxious. but after i was horribly sick yesterday, i feel a lot better. am i mad?

largegingerpsychoandtonic · 01/11/2006 13:54

Moomin told us on the may antenatal thread that you are having twins Marylou. Huge congrats to you, i had twins first time round they are 8 now! They are sooo lovely now it was hard work and they came early too at 29 weeks but you would never know it now. It is great for them having each other, good luck and find me on the may thread for any advice. It cant be that bad i went on to have 4 more and am prg with #6 (not twins, i looked VERY closely at the scan)!

lilKel · 01/11/2006 14:01

The preggie pops I got were from this site: popslink

N&T&B of course you can stay!

clothes - just got some wicked cute jeans from Topshop online. I think they do short lengths. H&M and Primark were good cheap places for me last time round - just bought empire line or bigger sizes.

Know what you mean about finding sickness reassuring but still would rather live without the constant urge to gag...!!

MagicGenie · 01/11/2006 14:29

Had visitors for a couple of days, so hello again all!

I'm 6+3...still hardly any symptoms apart from tender norks and the very occassional fleeting nausea/tiredness.

It would actually reassure me to be heaving up as that's what happened last time, but I s'pose I should be counting myself lucky!

(PS Sorry and lots of love to alexp and thehairybabysmum x.)

annobal · 01/11/2006 18:58

Have a look at the TopShop website - they have a ribbed vest for £1 - large only. Not sure if it's a misprint but would check it out anyway!!

Ingalls · 01/11/2006 20:11

Hi all and welcome to all the new faces,

Sorry to read your sad news hairybaby and alexh, hope you're getting lots of tlc and hugs, take care x

6+1 here and still waiting for the sickness to kick in properly - this time last time I was throwing up a good 4/6 times a day, so it's a bit odd just feeling sick. Have found myself gagging at smells a lot even dh's deoderant sets me off. Wandering if the diff is that I'm still bf dd and if the hormone balance is therefore diff this time. Anyone else still bf? Mixed feelings about it all just now, keep looking at dd who still feels sooo little at 13 months. Dd is really barely feeding any more, think my milk supply is dropping and poss tastes funny with the hormone change - glad she is self weaning but will really miss our special cuddles.

Don't think I've put on any weight paticularly just yet but feel like my bum has reached epic proportions - feel much more bloated and huge in the evenings.

Booking in with the midwife tomorrow so will feel like the ball is rolling so to speak. Dating scans are done 10-12 weeks here and am hoping it will be nearer the 10 week mark as still anxious due to previous mc, even having had dd since I'm still pretty nervous. Good to see there's now a due in July thread, helps to feel like we're moving along on this one!
