TALLULAHBELLE welcome to moaning central

marylou23 · 06/11/2006 11:57

Oh God, I had a bit of a freshly made custard tart at the weekend - just wasn't thinking and only realised when I'd swallowed a whole mouthful of custard. If custard tarts are baked does that cook the eggs or are they still a complete no no? And why does nature make you so dizzy when you're pregnant, just when you have to remember so many things??!!
Also, I think I have reverse morning sickness. I wake up, stomach empty and I'm fine. No problem. I have a bowl of cereal, and within half an hour I'm feeling dreadful! Very strange... Welcome Tallulahbelle - how far along are you?

sputnik · 06/11/2006 12:00

I'm no expert but imagine if it's cooked then no problem, also, if it hasn't made you sick then don't worry.

marylou23 · 06/11/2006 12:03

Thanks sputnik!

annobal · 06/11/2006 13:08

I did a similar thing on the weekend MaryLou - sudden craving for apple cake with cinnamon, sugar and flour crumble topping (okay - it was the topping I really wanted!) - I made it and left it in for the required 50mins, let it sit for 10 mins then cut myself a piece and the whole thing collapsed and was soggy in the middle (runny). Most people would throw the whole lot out but I managed to scrape the gooey bit out and just eat the cooked bit. Remembered later that it might not be too hygenic

doggus · 06/11/2006 13:52

Hi Marylou. I have reverse morning sickness too. I get out of bed gingerly, thinking, hmm, not bad. I ate four prunes to get the system going, and now I feel sick as a dog. It gets worse as the day goes on.

I have also eaten a custard tart, I reckon it's fine as it is cooked. Also most bakers nowadays use pre-pasteurized eggs.

PocketTasha · 06/11/2006 14:18

I'm glad to here that i am not the only one who is falling asleep at 9pm! I also know what you guys mean about no knowing what to eat. I keep looking at the fridge and not being able to decide.

Marylou23 - And i've been exactly the same with food, i NEED to eat a certain thing, and then can't bear the thought of it for a couple of days.

Cocobear · 06/11/2006 14:33

I wake up every day now with a sinking dread... WHAT am I going to eat? It's so tiring trying to run through a mental list of available food, almost all of which makes me want to vomit just to think about, before coming up with an acceptable answer. Or not.

Officially nine weeks today, so I've been this sick now for four weeks. That must be half-way, right??

PocketTasha · 06/11/2006 14:37

Over half way cocobear, i'm sure!

annobal · 06/11/2006 14:42

My MS with previous 2 lasted to around the 13 week mark. I found dry crackers great first thing in the morning - but while I have found the thought of lentils and beans (chick peas, any other beans) revolting, they do stop me feeling sick once I have eaten. I think it is the smell of lentils that really gets me!

marylou23 · 06/11/2006 14:48

Has anyone else found that they can eat 'out' better than at home? I guess there's no smelling the food being cooked etc? Couldn't face anything in the fridge/cupboards yesterday, then DH took me to local pizza place, ordered spag bol and I absolutely hoovered it up. Felt so much better, too. Could get expensive, of course (!!) but it was such a relief just to be able to eat without screwing up my nose.

Cocobear · 06/11/2006 15:12

Marylou, I think you're right, as food prep is just... aaargh. Sadly Accra is not the best place to eat out - you always stand a fair chance of food poisoning, so I'm not risking it at the moment! We're going to South Africa in a couple weeks though - I'm dreading going on one hand because I fear I'll ruin the holiday for DH and DS. But then again... different food! Could be just what I need.

sarahsausage · 06/11/2006 15:30

Annobal -- you were lucky! My sickness didn't stop until i was around 26 weeks, then it started again around 34 weeks with dd1 think it was pretty much constant until week 29 with dd2.

sarahsausage · 06/11/2006 15:36

Just found this on pg forum, hope flabbergasted doesn't mind me quoting it but thought we could all give her our support:

Had scan this morning. They couldn't find a heartbeat, and at seven weeks, they should be able to. They took some more blood, and booked me in for another scan next week and said I should keep an "open mind" but....
Damn damn damn.

I had mixed feelings about being pregnant initially but now of course want it more than anything.
I still feel queasy. My breasts still hurt. I feared SOMETHING might yet go wrong but I didn't think it would be today - today I still FEEL pregnant.
Blood test results tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for you flabbergasted

flabbergasted · 06/11/2006 15:37

Thank you sarah.

lilKel · 06/11/2006 16:08

Flabbergasted - big big warm cuddly hugs to you, and giant big buckets of glue. Try to keep up the positive thoughts, as much as you can. Not everyone really does get to hear the heartbeat at 7 weeks - and is it possible the date could be a bit off? It's very meaningful that you've realised how much you want this baby, now. Regardless what happens, that will make the future more valuable to you, because now it's clear to you what you truly want. Please let us know how you get on. x x x

annobal · 06/11/2006 16:14

I'm so sorry fg. I hope it works out for you...

sputnik · 06/11/2006 16:24

Hi Flabber, please try not to worry, read megandsoph's thread here
Plenty of people there didn't even try to get a heartbeat til after 12 weeks or more, apparently it's quite tricky. As she posted earlier here she is 11 weeks and they couldn't get one. If you still feel pg then I would say that's a good sign.

flabbergasted · 06/11/2006 16:30

Thank you all. You're so wonderfully supportive!

megandsoph · 06/11/2006 17:45

Flabbergasted I really hope everythings ok xx Gosh this pregnancy stuff is hardwork.

The PG symptoms are what I'm looking out for whilst waiting for my scan, constant boob checking to make sure they are still sore lol..

twinkle5 · 06/11/2006 18:35

Hope all works out well FG

I'm feeling sorry for myself- feel so sick all afternoon and evening ('morning' sickness), nothing really helps, even preggie pops (though they are nice ). I still get hungry but don't ever know what I 'fancy'. Poor bean is being provided with pot noodles, cup-a-soups, heinz tomato soup and the occasional satsuma!

Moan over, the one day I didn't feel too bad (a couple of weeks ago now) I thought something was wrong and worried all day!!

marylou23 · 06/11/2006 19:12

Poor you. I know the feeling. But I read in v. reassuring book that embryos are very adept at taking care of themselves and however few nutrients you take into your body, if your embryo needs them, it'll find them from somewhere... anyway, pot noodles and soup sounds like v. balanced diet to me
Flabbergasted, hold on in there. I know it's a nightmare, but the pregnancy symptoms are a really good sign.

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/11/2006 19:23

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the welcome. I'm 9 weeks today!Got the reverse morning sickness too - feel great in morning but as day goes on just get queasier and queasier and evenings are a nightmare. Also totally confused by all the 'banned foods'. Doc just said avoid pate, soft cheese and shellfish but have since heard awful things about just about everything else I've eaten. Sometimes all I can face is toast with peanut butter and now I see I shouldn't have that either. Can't believe the maternal guilt has kicked in already - and don't get me started on what I drank before I knew!!!!Ah well, first moan off my chest. Tell me this gets better!!!???

twinkle5 · 06/11/2006 19:31

I too ate peanut butter on toast, then realised it was banned (esp as I have asthma and DH is allergic to most things!) Also, went away for the weekend a couple of weeks ago (booked before BFP) and was pleased to be feeling well enough to eat in a restaurant. Lights were dimmed as there was 'entertainment' and food arrived. Well I wolfed down a delicious steak and boiled potatoes. Just as I was finishing the last couple of mouthfuls the lights came on to reveal that my steak was not so much rare as raw! oops. Not to worry, it all reappeared an hour later anyway (sorry tmi!)

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/11/2006 19:57

What are you eating for lunch? I'm used to always having sandwiches or crackers and cheese. Now can't have deli meats, salami, soft cheese, p/b, gotta be careful of eggs, limit on the tuna, no pre-made salads(am taking that to mean coleslaw, pot & pasta salad). Sick of cheddar and pickle!Don't have time at work to make something fresh . Any suggestions welcome, especially as usually lunch is the last meal I can face in a day due to the 'evening sickness'so want to get as much nutrition in as possible.
