ladies I just made this (with a couple of spoons of creme freiche added) and it is incredible! you should all have it passes it round excitedly

TinyTear · 23/01/2015 20:59

Don't get me started on health visitors! I had a bloke who gave really old fashioned breastfeeding advice, wanted me to sit up straight backed in a hard chair, not comfy on the sofa, wanted to make sure she fed 20 minutes on each side and other gems. This at 10 days old... When I finally went to the breastfeeding cafe the women there were lovely, gave proper advice and knew who he was and told me to ignore all he had said...

Then I had the bad luck of seeing him again at 10 weeks and he tried to bully me into supplementing with formula when I knew my daughter and she was fine and hitting milestones but just happened to be in the 9th centile...

Then I refused to go back there and just got her weighed at my local surgery...

If I see him again I will give him a piece of my mind if he comes back with stupid advice...

kismac · 23/01/2015 21:04

I have no more space left in my belly. I feel like I'm going to explode. My rib cage really aches!

smogsville · 23/01/2015 21:07

Tiny, a male health visitor giving advice??? I am drawing myself up to my full height and feeling very indignant on your behalf.

Lauren once again, LOLZ!

Kismac - I know the feeling. Under three months to go though, phew.

TheBooMonster · 23/01/2015 21:14

tiny male health visitors exist?! I know that shouldn't surprise me, we're in an age of supposed gender equality Hmm but still, how are men meant to have the first clue about breastfeeding...

Hah lauren yea, have to admit a coldsore would make me feel pretty adverse to sexy time too! DH started trying to work out how many calories sex would burn with his new fitbit (I fucking hate that thing already, I got a running commentary of how many calories he'd taken in and burnt whilst I was watching dinner cook in the saucepan) had to make it quite clear he'd never burn calories from dirty spoons or otherwise if he actually gave me the answer...

PenguinPoser · 23/01/2015 21:23

Just had a look at that recipe Boo looks yummy I will save that for a later date Smile just stuffed myself at pizza express so feeling full atm!

Lauren if you are avoiding cold sore cream etc you could still use the little patches that you use to cover the cold sore - DH has used them a couple of times and they seem to make the cold sore not get as big/angry looking before healing.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2015 21:31

There are plenty of women who have no clue TheBooMonster!

I've never had a cold sore thankfully but I can see how they can put you off! Dh isn't as bothered with kissing as I am.

squatting in DH's defence he does have a bit of a complex at the moment, because I'm home the most I do pretty much all the cooing and take away ordering and my diet is pretty awful, so he's put on a bit of weight and his parents are making sure he knows it. I'm going to grit my teeth and let him get on with it despite the murderous rage it's causing me because once I've had bump and am no longer breast feeding (Hoping I can make it 6 months) I'm joining slimming world so he will be subjected to the diet that comes with it, and there will be no take aways! I'm not sure how I'd come if he actually joined a gym though, he's threatened to start Kettlersise(?) and if he does he'll be doing it all over the house as well as at the weekly sessions O.o But I suppose it's better than swearing at minecraft?

true cinnamon but surely men are at a natural disadvantage?

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2015 22:22

My dh is a power lifter and is obsessed with his training, he's got better as time has gone on but he used to plan our lives around it but because his gym is in our garage I'm supposed to be grateful that he's nearby and not off somewhere. He's quite specific of timings of when he can train and has to have a big meaty dinner after training. I started running 3 years ago and we have to plan around each other a bit so I am a bit more forgiving but on evenings when he wants to train and I'm running I'm the one who makes sure it's a dinner that can cook while I'm out (slow cooker, cook in the bag in the oven) so he can come in and feed the boys without stress and take dogs with me for the run so they don't have to walked separately whereas he just comes in gets changed and goes out to the garage. Now I'm pregnant he doesn't like me running in the dark on my own so it takes more planning to have a partner, whereas he just walks in and says I'm going to train and I have to sort everything else. If he's not training on my running evenings he does do dinner and then I put my boys to bed when I'm home. He has a website to update too and records everything he does! Plus he spends hours watching others lifting on you tube. But it's part of him and who he is and I'll never change him so I try to support him mostly and rant occasionally!

not good with abbreviations, is HV health visitor? i've had no dealings with one of those yet, assumed they just came after birth but i work full tie so wouldn't be meeting anyone before hand.

welcome Skyra : )

Not had chance to catch up fully, DH is turning everything off so it mush be bed time. Sadly no DTD for me i don't think (hurumph) I think he's actually tired and wants to go to bed.
God i feel so irratable, must be hormone induced, with a side helping of a bad back and achy ribs, maybe I should just go to bed.

Lauren82000 · 24/01/2015 08:38

There was a male mw at the hospital when I was being induced with DD! Suffice to say I unfortunately had him give me my 3rd lot of gel! He did not have small hands Confused

PenguinPoser · 24/01/2015 08:41

Yes health visitor Hiding. Hope you feel better this morning. I'm impressed that people are still wanting to DTD- I feel like a neglectful wife Blush although DH is very lovely and understanding we've only done it a handful of times in the pregnancy. Suppose it won't get any better with a newborn so maybe I will make more effort next few weeks!

Had a rubbish nights sleep hotel room in Central London way too hot and having the window open was noisy! Roll on 5pm when exam is over and I can relax I'm blaming the hotel for the poor sleep not the nerves or the baby kicking!

Hope everyone has a good day

FiRaffe · 24/01/2015 09:06

Good luck in your exam Penguin.

We had the new nursery floor laid yesterday so a day of putting back all the furniture today. My friends keep telling me to slow down but my lounge isn't going to magically empty itself (although that would be a nice trick!)

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 24/01/2015 09:46

They can always come to do it for you, FiRaffe

IvegotaCaveTroll · 24/01/2015 10:03

Good luck penguin

RumNoRaisins · 24/01/2015 10:14

Good luck Penguin!

We haven't got a nursery for the baby, and didn't have one for DS1 either as we were moving houses and never got round to it. I'm planning on having the baby in with us for the first year then move out to room share with DS1 after. Mind you, DS1 has been in my bed for the last few weeks hugging the bump to sleep so it might be simpler if I move out of the room after a year a leave them to it!

I'm another with a positive GTT mini and tiny and been diet controlled for the past few weeks. It's not been too bad and I'm definitely eating healthier. Weight gain has slowed down considerably as a result of cakelessness Blush

TinyTear · 24/01/2015 10:50

Metformin at dinner gave me my first good reading fasting this morning...

Still need to crack breakfast...

daholster · 24/01/2015 13:34

Good luck penguin! Been having a sneaky guess at what exam it might be... Maybe it's one I did in November... If so then you will know what I mean when I say OMG that buzzer!!! Good luck whatever it is, it will be such a relief when it's done!

Just made what I consider to be a planned and need edge baby purchase - it's for our dd. It's one of those 4 in 1 trikes that she can learn to cycle but has a foot rest and straps for while she is little, and I can steer it from the back. When she gets big enough I can leave her to it on it. We actually got one from Costco and it's better because a) it was cheaper but we tried it and it was pretty sturdy and b) it's got a stand on board at the back so that when ds is big enough to sit in it then dd can still ride on the back (and vice versa when ds is big enough) so that's a bonus. I want to be able to take her out for walks and it be about her - strap him to me for a nap and have hands free with dd but not chasing and grabbing all the time, so walks with the trike might work, going to the pond etc... I really hope so, I so want her not to resent ds for being around and I want her to feel like I am still doing things with her.

We also bought a mini bouncy castle to use on her birthday for a mini party with her other same age friends so the four of them can have fun bouncing indoors or out depending on the weather and eat cake, and the parents can eat and natter... I think that combined with balloons and presents will be a happy birthday for dd and not too much for us to manage since ds will potentially only be a few days to a few weeks old! Ds is due on the 14th April, dd's birthday is the 27th and we want it to be awesome for her :-)

Sore after a morning of shopping with dh and dd, time for a sit down while dd naps! Hmm... Brew

Feeling excited! First bit of decoration for peanutella done today! I don't have the energy to repaint her room (all my second trimester energy went into re painting a room for dd so she didn't feel miffed about being evicted from her old room) so have used wall stickers which I think are pretty cute. We are going with a sheep theme, partly cos DH is a kiwi.

Also, a thought for first time mums... I have started sleeping with a couple of comforters for DD2, so that they smell of me by the time she is born. The theory is that if she then has to be without me (in the car seat, in the crib, bouncy chair whilst I'm tending to her sister having a strop, etc) then she can smell me and feel reassured. I'm not 100% sure this works, of course, but it feels worth a try!

PenguinPoser · 24/01/2015 17:52

Omg daholster I bet it is the same exam! Yes the buzzer will haunt my dreams! Was quite stressful but it's over now - don't know if I feel better or worse! Thanks everyone for the good luck wishes. Have to wait just under 2 weeks for results so fingers crossed. Going to try and chill and make the most of being in London by meeting some friends for a curry Smile

londonlivvy that's a nice idea about getting the comforter to smell of you - might try it as well!

Been swotting up as a nervous newbie and found this quite helpful ( their pages are quite helpful in gerneral!!)
www.babycentre.co.uk/a559809/buying-for-baby-what-you-really-need
As I was finding it hard to get the balance of what I do and don't need right.
Is anyone buying a pramsuit\coat?
I'm hesitant due to the unpredictability of the weather ie freezing or boiling. But I have the urge to dress him or her up as a bear!
