Marking place.

Yaaawn. I don't mind running for DD when she has a nightmare or needs a wee... But today at 5:30 I hear mummy mummy mummy and when I go in she tells me "I've got snot!"
Ahhhhhrgh!!!!

Hidingthefear · 21/01/2015 07:18

thanks for sharing squatting and london :)
i feel like that too catsofa i kind of look at it and stroke it but the connection that there is a tiny human being in there just seems so bizzare! I lay in bed with DH the other night and just said "can you believe ive grown a person in there!" the mind boggles.

ToysRus have the snuzpod in stock in natural toysrus snuzpod

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2015 07:32

I was the same before ds1 catsofa, I had experience with ds's but from 3 and had never been interested in babies at all. My Dh had done it before so that helped but he wasn't there all day so I had to and did get on with baby stuff Smile

londonlivvy I'm the other kiwi wife. Very impressed at your efforts, I never usually do anything for Waitangi Day. Maybe I'll make some Anzac biscuits this year.

FiRaffe · 21/01/2015 07:39

I'm so glad others are/have been like that about their bump. I'm very protective if people try walking into me etc but it still doesn't feel like my baby in there, just some wriggly monster! It's all so new and different to anything - I know nature will help me adjust but I'm still scared about it all!

londonlivvy · 21/01/2015 08:09

banana and smog I never did anything for Waitangi Day until I had DD, and now that she's a kiwi citizen, I feel I have to do something to help her to get an understanding of what it means to be a kiwi. We are so far away, it's otherwise an entirely academic thing. Last year I just did baking and a flag up etc, but this year I'm going with crafts and baking and a map of the world etc. dh is a bit non plussed because Waitangi Day isn't a big thing in NZ, but I feel I have to do something and there isn't a better day (there isn't an equivalent of Australia Day).

FWIW, you can pay about 80 quid to get your child registered as a kiwi by descent. You don't have to pay extra for them to get a kiwi passport - that's a detail and you've the right to have a passport later. We did it because the rules might change over the next 18 years and she'd be pretty cross to lose the right to work in NZ or oz just because mum didn't get her stuff together. If you subsequently go and live in NZ before the age of 18, you can change their citizenship to full citizenship. If you're a kiwi by descent then you can't pass it on to your children. Which seems fair.

BananaToast · 21/01/2015 08:50

That's good to know, I hadn't even thought about citizenship. DH is already a bit sad the baby is going to grow up 'English' so definitely want to make sure options are open further down the line.

Lauren82000 · 21/01/2015 09:15

Im still very unattached to this one. I was gutted when we lost one in May so decided to try again right away and we lost another in June. DH has also been not as interested in this one. I think we got our hopes up so much about the other two that this one is very much waiting for the other shoe to drop if you know what I mean. I hate that I'm not as excited as I was when I was pregnant with DD, but there isn't much I can do about that. Just have to wait till I meet them and it should work itself out like last time.

It wasn't until we got DD home that I felt anything for her really. We were stuck in hospital for a week and she just slept so I didn't have to do much, spent most of the time asleep or reading to pass the time. I was slightly disappointed I had a girl and she was so long when she came out I didn't think she looked like a newborn at all. But like I said once we got her home and she started looking a bit more baby like and less blotchy. I was fine and grew to love her. I do have to confess I'm really not very maternal at all so that probably didn't help with the apathy.

smogsville · 21/01/2015 10:09

Lauren I'm not so excited this time round, I'm more wary of how to deal with two at once when new baby arrives. Sorry for your earlier losses and I think it only makes sense to feel more cautious doesn't it.

Londonlivvy that's good intel re the NZ citizenship thing. Although I do feel a bit like if DH wants to get it done that could something for him to organise rather than another job for me Shock

ChickenMe · 21/01/2015 10:25

Good Morning.

Thanks for stats.

Anyone had the whooping cough jab yet? Er, it hurt a bit and a day later I can't raise my arm! Still, we will all be pincushions as well as expert urinators after this is done.

My bloods came back as low haemoglobin again; does anyone else have low iron? I'm already on 4 iron tablets a day. These babies must really take alot of iron!

How are people getting on with a) nursery decorating and b) major purchases? We have done nothing!!!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 21/01/2015 10:32

ordered a cot a couple of days ago, bought some baby mittens in tesco yesterday (and some muslins, which I didn't need to get as I have loads somewhere)

most things I already have though.

FiRaffe · 21/01/2015 11:02

We've got our travel system (January sales bargain from Amazon) and inherited a moses basket from a friend, but need to get the nursery to be refloored before we buy anything big...hopefully it will only be a couple more weeks as i'm starting to get anxious!

smogsville · 21/01/2015 11:04

Like Ebwy I already have most things from DD.

Ebwy if you find your muslins, tell me where they were will you? I'm buggered if I know where mine are!

Think Siarie's on iron tablets? Am I right?

ChickenMe · 21/01/2015 11:15

Ive got the little things but am finding the big things daunting so have put them off!
MIL announced she almost bought a pram. For herself. Aibu to think that is weird? She lives within walking distance.
Feeling very very possessive about the pregnancy, baby and myself hence seeing her pram-buying as intrusive!

smogsville · 21/01/2015 11:20

Chicken. Maybe a bit weird, but if you normally get on well with her and would like to rely on her for help once baby's here, let her get on with it I say!

Siarie · 21/01/2015 11:24

chicken I've got my blood tests Monday but I know it will come back low iron. Fighting a battle with it right now, I keep taking tablets then stopping when I feel better only to start feeling bad a day or so later! Just had an iron tablet now again as I can feel my heart in my chest again.

I've never had it so variable so quickly before so yes I think babies must steal it!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2015 11:28

Haemoglobin is the part of red blood cells that binds to iron so if that is low you will most likely have low iron too. Iron binding changes the haemoglobin so it may be the test is looking for it in the bound state (not sure what they actually test for but understand the biology). Maybe you need to up your vitC to help iron uptake, I'm sure the midwife will advise ChickenMe.

I really do think there's a lot more fear with the second. I was worried I wouldn't love ds2 as much, and coping (despite spending all day with 3 under 5's, it wasn't a tiny baby or with me all the time). This time I obviously have my worries about the baby but I also worry about how ds2 will cope, he's already a challenging child but is really mummy's boy and I will be away from him for at least 48hrs and up to 2 weeks for big chunks of time. I worry that this start will make him resent the baby, although he keeps saying he going to be a good big brother!

And I forgot to say on here (I mentioned on FB) we ordered all the travel system stuff, car seat and carrier etc. It all arrived yesterday, really impressed with how fast it came! We ordered it last week and it even came from outside the UK lol!

Luckily we have loads of space to put all this stuff, only have the cotbed to buy now in the big purchase areas which we left until last as she's going to be in the hammock for a while.

With DD1, I didn't feel a rush of love for quite a long time. She was prem, looked very odd and had to have tests for chromosomal disorders, so for the first couple of weeks I think I was quite distanced from her in case something major was wrong. Then she was a difficult baby, and I'm not a baby person at the best of times... In all honesty I think I didn't "fall in love" with her until after 6 months when she turned into more of a person iykwim, though I did feel loving and protective towards her from the early days.

I'm not excited at the moment. I am terrified a bit nervous that DD2 is going to come prem like DD1, or even earlier, so suspect I will only let myself relax and get excited after about 36 weeks.

Also nervous about dealing with 2! Though I'm cheating a bit as we're keeping our nanny on 4 days a week which will be a major help.

I seem to recall one of you ladies had a prem baby first time round?? (can't remember who sorry) How are you feeling?

IvegotaCaveTroll · 21/01/2015 11:49

Wow we do talk a lot- which is good as i am off work sick.
Have terrible reflux and basically threw up all over myself in the car while driving through Leeds. Had to change into theatre scrubs at work so I could get loads of paper work sorted before I could go home and clean sick out of my hair.
I'm supposed to be on training days at hull royal the rest of the week but il never manage a 50 mile drive without vomiting all over myself again.

I'm so pleased and excited about having a baby but I feel absolutely rotten!

OH says he refuses to get me pregnant again. I said he didn't get me pregnant this time as iv been so unwell and moany. He has looked after me though- he does all the housework and cooking and shopping.

I'm a bit worried I'm measuring 3cm under- but obstetrician and mw not concerned at all as iv not got much fat. Hopefully will grow more soon.

ChickenMe · 21/01/2015 12:00

I think you might have to stick with the iron Siarie because your body takes time to build up stores. Do you get bad side effects? I had palpitations the other day too! You look very organised, I like your grey pram.
smogs I know she means well so have kept trap shut (apart from to OH) but she's obsessed & is incessantly bloody worrying. I think it's quite common for either Mums or MILs to get very caught up in it all?

smogsville · 21/01/2015 12:16

Chicken my MIL lives in NZ so I don't have to deal with too much nose poking also this will be her 11th grandchild (DH has three older sisters).

My mum's another kettle of fish as this will only be her second grandchild but I rely on her massively and generally consider her to be a wise, measured, calm sort of person so quite happy to take all the advice and just do as I'm told.

Siarie · 21/01/2015 12:19

chicken I find that my digestion slows down a lot, but mostly I'm just terrible with remembering when I feel well. I shall try though!

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well cave troll.
