mswibble I got a HV letter and having a home visit first week in feb. Immediately thought ooh better make sure the house is nice and tidy etc! Clearly not how it will look when baby arrives!

Thanks for the good luck wishes ladies. Waiting for train to London now - exam tomorrow afternoon but didn't want to risk being late and travelling in the morning (and it's 3h by train)! Wish I could just fast forward to 5pm tomorrow. Have dragged DH with me as I wasn't willing to travel alone and stressed halfway down the country at 30w! Anyway. Might entertain myself by having a look at slings that are being suggested Smile it's something that I still haven't fully decided if I want/need but the appeal of having 2 hands free is good!

skyra13 · 23/01/2015 15:46

I am a newbie to the thread thought I would say hi due 6th of April with a little girl my first one.
Currently board out of my mind as I don't know anyone were I live, was made redundant in November and no luck in finding new job now I am on maternity allowance and just finding it a bit lonely on my own in the day all the time while my DH his at work.
Hope all your pregnancy's are going well :)

I did get a bit hoity about it Lauren!. Realistically I'm sure its a new initiative but the irrational moo inside is outraged and thinking that they think I'm a scruffy mare!

I'm totally bewildered by all the baby slings and carriers, some look v bulky and uncomfortable but I love the idea of a nice soft one for about the house when pottering about. Will investigate this papoozle (what a lovely word!)

TheBooMonster · 23/01/2015 16:22

omg kis that sling looks so much bloody easier than my moby wrap! I've ordered one as at £20 you can't really go wrong!

I'm waiting for a call to arrange an antenatal visit from the health visitor, but as she's seeing DD before the birth anyway she might just double it up. Nutter HV from when DD was born didn't check the house or anything, she was more busy telling us how we shouldn't leave the house or let in visitors because it will make it more difficult to put the 'jigsaw' of our 'new family' together, she quite liked talking about jigsaws, and reminding us we must never leave DD alone, not even for a second, and we should always talk to her, even in her sleep, because if we stop talking to her she'd think she was in a jungle (she also quite liked jungles, we used to secretly play bingo whenever she visited, she mentioned jungles 3 times and jigsaws 5 in one visit...) I was a bit relieved when we moved far enough away that we had to have a new health visitor and this one's considerably more sane!

Welcome skyra sorry to hear about the redundancy. But enjoy the boredom whilst it lasts, you'll miss it once baby comes!

has anyone here signed up for sassy bloom boxes and thus have a referral code before I go and order a box? I have a code for 50% off but would prefer to give someone the referral kickback if someone's already signed up...

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 23/01/2015 16:47

welcome to the thread, skyra

mrswibble, lauren, remember that you don't HAVE to have a health visitor at all. I've already informed my midwife that she needn't bother referring me on once I leave her care as the Health Visitors will NOT be welcome here. Despite what they try to tell you, they are not compulsory! (the midwife home visit after the birth is compulsory, though!)

I prefer the Close Baby Carrier for my babywearing.. soo comfy and easy to use.

smogsville · 23/01/2015 16:48

LOL re crack den check Squatting!

Welcome skyra sorry about the redundancy, but I echo what the others say about not being bored once baby's here. Can you do some batch cooking research so you feel like you're using your time wisely?

I'm defo feeling end of the week tired. Trying to work out how much more than the free 15 hrs I can justify sending DD to nursery for from next term. She will defo be happier there than here bored with me and a newborn. I'm thinking I'll defo put her in for whole days (9-330) on Monday to take the edge off DH going to work after the weekend and then probably full day on Weds too as she has swimming at 4pm and it's around the corner. Other than that I think I'm going to have to just face up to being a mother of two and make the best of it Shock

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 23/01/2015 16:51

labelling school clothing... I started off sewing name badges in. Then I wrote on the label. Now (having done the school nursery and half way through reception) I've learned that sewn in labels can be unpicked, labels can be cut out... but names writen in bloody big letters inside the collar, waistband etc with a permanent marker make your kids' stuff less likely to go walkies with someone else. And it's quicker than sewing in name labels.

mswibble · 23/01/2015 16:54

Bugger it, I've just ordered the Papoozle...and I might have added a stretchy wrap in a nursery print too. Smile
I bought a sleeping bag and hooded towel too today, from the Morrison's baby event. I cannot wait until I am able to get as all the bits and bobs in baby's room and start organising his clothes and things. Its quite scary how fast all this is going and I cannot believe that I have 13 wks left of it being just me and OH! Grin

27+1

mswibble · 23/01/2015 16:58

ebwy did you have a bad experience with your last one or was she just bonkers like boos?! I'm not really sure what she'll expect of me and I'm not sure if I should have questions to ask her? Will have to do some research I think

BananaToast · 23/01/2015 16:59

Eek that looks really complicated Squatting! If all that went wrong is a bit of miscounting I think you did really well! Love the pattern, just not sure if I'm brave enough to attempt it.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 23/01/2015 17:04

we had a very bad experience where she thought my youngest's birthmark was a bruise and reported us to social services when he was 3 weeks old.

As a result I get a panic attack at the thought of her coming here.. or any of her colleagues.

So I don't intend to put myself through that for a pointless visit from someone so incompetent anyway. She was only good for keeping an accurate eye on how he was growing (eldest) and I didn't miss any "help" when we broke all contact with the health visitor service for the youngest either.

(in case you're wondering, it was dismissed as "no case")

My HV with DD was nice but I got annoyed with the development checks as DD was so wary of new people she barely did any of the tasks and clung to me. (She still doesn't like new people and even takes 10-20 mins to warm up to her grandma even when she looks after her every Monday!)

They also seem to have this condescending aura about them. I'd just think if I told them to sod off I'd be put on a list somewhere as a difficult trouble maker. Shock

Lauren82000 · 23/01/2015 17:12

Squatting it's up to you if you take their advice or not don't feel bad about not potty training yet. It is advice after all not a demand.

ChickenMe · 23/01/2015 17:14

God I didn't even know about HV. We have a bitey cat haha!
Come down with a cold after the whooping cough jab. Bloody bastard. Wonder if the jabs to blame?
I was soo baby brain today. Got the wrong train which meant I had to get the tube. Managed to get the wrong tube going the wrong way and then it was so busy going back into town you couldn't get on. I said fuck it and went further out to get on where there was space. Bloody dense.
I like to think my DC will inherit my brain Wink as I used to be intelligent but months and months of broken sleep kills brain cells doesn't it!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2015 18:37

Me too with the sharpie TinyTear but I can sew in a button or sew up a hole.

Knitting is easy BananaToast, have a look at you tube for casting on and beginners videos.

I can cross stitch too Lauren82000, but my sewing isn't very tidy. I think £19.99 for a sling isn't bad and you can quite often resell them without much loss.

Good luck penguinPoser and try to have a relaxing evening!

Hi Skyra13, we have the same due date Grin

Being a mother of two is easy once you get used to it smogsville! Don't panic and some time with other toddlers while you snooze with baby won't do her any harm at all. I've had several minded children that have still come to me during maternity leave to keep it normal for them, give mum a bit more time and to hold the space.

They won't expect anything of you mswibble, early days they are letting you know where the weighing clinics are and some baby groups you can attend. They also did parent classes when I had ds1 with a baby massage class at the end and gave me leaflets about jabs and signs of meningitis. There will be questions but you can't ask until you're doing it when baby is born imo. My experience is they aren't great about weaning advice and they often tell you not to hold your baby too much or spoil them etc.

I have done some batch cooking already but there is only so much can do :( think I need a hobby lol
I will be starting to decorate baby's room as of next week so should keep me busy for a few days hopefully :p
Finally getting out the house for a birthday meal tomo cant wait lol
Yay and cinnamon you are the first I have cone across with same due date x

mswibble · 23/01/2015 18:57

Neville that looks ace, lovely colours too - remind me of ice cream! Ive just seen one of those mags advertised, learning how to knit, and the first issue is only 99p. Might just buy issue 1 as you get needles with it and see if I can't least get past the first row!

cinnamon thanks for the reassurance! Would be good to hear about any groups in the area as all my mates are based on the other side of Manchester so I don't have any mums to give me info about these things.

Lauren82000 · 23/01/2015 20:20

This coldsore is turning out to be of the massive and very painful variety. Confused Can't even put anything on it stupid medical guidelines. Hmm I hate getting them at the best of times I'm so paranoid I'll give them to DD. Plus it puts sexy times on hold with DH. We both suffer from them, I only get them on my lips and he only gets them on his nose. We make a lovely pair the odd times we get them together. Shock

smogsville · 23/01/2015 20:45

LOL Lauren! Still love that sexy time is such a regular part of your pregnancy!

Good work skyra, sounds like you're well ahead already.

Thanks cinnamon. It's the getting used to it bit that I'll need to master. I'm thinking four mornings a week with one afternoon so I can stay more or less within the 15 hrs might be the most sensible option. Can always increase if need be. Seems foolish to commit to extra expenditure when should really be putting some money aside for when SMP disappears at 9 months. This mat leave is likely to be much cheaper than the last one as I won't be perpetually in pizza express/ pain quotidien enjoying myself with a baby coming along for the ride, but then again out mortgage is much bigger now and not interest only....

Yawn.

Lauren82000 · 23/01/2015 20:57

DH was hinting for sexy times before, I pointed to my lip and said ain't happening, he just laughed and said I don't have to kiss you! Cheeky bugger.
