Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 07:08

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

Corporal catnip reporting for duty! Age 29 DC#1 EDD may 13th so approx 5 weeks along.

just reviewing my behaviour of this past weekend. Hows this for a list: i drank (lots of wine) lifted heavy things, went running, treated gdn furniture with potentially quite toxic chemicals, ate undercooked eggs, pate, stinky cheese... I honestly did not think yesterdays test would be positive!

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 08:33

Yay! Welcome aboard! Smile

I think you might only be 3-4 weeks along.

The first day of my last period was 25th July, ovulation on 10th August (I think) with a pretty regular 31 day cycle and all the apps have me as exactly 5 weeks yesterday.

According to NHS calculator is suggests a due date of 13th May and says you are 3 weeks pregnant.

A CB digi will help though. I got 2-3 weeks when I tested on the 24th aug (it calculates from conception, not last period) and then it had reassuringly increased to 3+ weeks when I tested again on Friday. I never realised it was so complicated!!

How are you feeling today?!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 02/09/2014 18:23

Went and bought a digital test today so we will soon know! I'm feeling ok thanks, although hyper aware of my podgy tum and paranoid work colleagues will guess. Might have to buy a few loose tops to help cover it. Also called the dr and booked my first app for next weds. It feels really weird verbalising it- i am actually pregnant!

catnip85 · 02/09/2014 18:23

When is yr first Dr app?

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 18:40

My surgery says I don't need to see the doctor, just go straight to a midwife appointment on the 24th September. Feels like ages away!! Confused

OP posts:
catnip85 · 03/09/2014 07:20

It will be here before you know it! Right did the test and you were right- 2-3 weeks. However am i right in thinking that pregnancies are dated from the first day or yr last lmp? So that would make me five weeks and you seven?

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/09/2014 07:35

Hmm not really sure how it works, although if you count whole weeks since the 25th July then that is five. According to my app I am now 5 weeks, 2 days. The NHS due date calculator also asked about cycle length so that obviously has some impact as we both have longer than average cycles. I guess that starts to allow for when conception was likely to have occurred.

Urgh! I feel terrible today. Like I'm hungover. Had to stop and be sick on my way to work and it's horrible having to keep it hidden from colleagues Confused

OP posts:
catnip85 · 03/09/2014 13:26

Oh no you poor thing. Can you tell them youre sick and go home for the afternoon? I'm dreading the sickness, especially as i commute nearly two hours each way to work on the coach. Ive heard that ginger biscuits can help combat the queasiness

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/09/2014 18:12

Didn't want to say anything as I have no idea how long it will go on for Sad Luckily have many years of experience in my earlier life of coping with humongous hangovers at work, so managed to get through the day. Not fun though. At least I guess this is a sign of development! Fingers crossed it passes quickly! Wink

OP posts:
catnip85 · 03/09/2014 18:22

Indeed fingers crossed! Have you been feeling bad all day?

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/09/2014 20:10

Pretty much Sad felt queasy when I woke up and we'd run out of bread do couldn't have my usually toast. Grabbed an apple on my way to the station and started feeling nauseous on the train. Spent most of the journey eyeing up the toilet sign and wondering if I'd have to push my way past all the standing commuters and debating whether to give up my seat to go and stand by the toilet just in case. In the end I held out and managed to make it to the toilets at the other end. A nice man let me through without paying. Had to then get myself sorted afterwards (clammy, red faced) and finish the journey to work. Felt better but rough until lunchtime and then knackered and distracted for the rest of the day.

How are you feeling?! Make the most of this time if you are feeling ok Smile

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 03/09/2014 20:35

What do you do by the way? 2hrs by coach is a long way!!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 04/09/2014 07:13

That sounds awful hun, hope today is a bit better for you? I edit a magazine were based in the city and i live in Hertfordshire hence the mega commute. I'm feeling ok so far. Still got a bloated tum and I've been a bit grouchy but i am a few weeks behind you. Ive put a little pack of cream crackers in my bag in case the sickness strikes and i need something plain to nibble!

Justyouwaitandsee · 04/09/2014 18:43

Oh that's a coincidence - I live in Herts and work in the city, with a job in PR. Small world! Am amazed you do the commute by coach - have considered it, based on the extortionate train fares but having faced a similar commute in the past, I'm not sure I could again!

I've felt better today - no sickness stop! - but my stomach feels a bit like its on a boat! How about you?

OP posts:
catnip85 · 04/09/2014 18:55

Oh wow what are the chances! Yeah i tried the train for a year but just couldn't justify it because it was so often late/expensive/no seats etc. The coach is ok, its the lesser (and cheaper) of the two evils.

glad you're feeling a bit better. I keep getting mild waves of nausea but its not v frequent and am hoping it doesn't get worse. Generally fine though, just very tired

Justyouwaitandsee · 04/09/2014 19:28

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Hemel.
Have just been looking at the coach again and think its goes right up the road I work on. Might have to think about it again in the new year when my annual ticket runs out - I don't want to pay the higher monthly fare and don't want to lose money on another annual which I won't make full use of. Do you use the greenline? Can I ask how much it costs monthly/yearly? I'm struggling to find prices online.

Oh sorry to hear you're starting to suffer. My mum suggests we take it in weeks and that symptoms are likely to change and not hang around too long if we're lucky.

Strangely I have also become really sensitive to sound and noise today. The office noise felt deafening. Have just looked it up and apparently this is another common symptom! Strange business this pregnancy lark.

Justyouwaitandsee · 07/09/2014 08:54

Hi catnip - how are you doing? I woke up at 3am this morning with a persistent twisting pain in my lower right hand side pelvis. Made me feel sick. Was so worried but it did eventually subside after an hour. Not sure if it was just trapped gas but was pretty scary.

OP posts:
catnip85 · 07/09/2014 09:54

Hi Hun, sorry for the late reply. I'm in bath for my besties hen party- v difficult to explain to 12 ladies i don't know why im not drinking without actually saying im pregnant! Will tell the hen next wk as I've still got a bridesmaids dress to fit into in october!

hope youre ok? Has the pain returned at all? I've been getting period pain type cramps for the last few wks. Checked it out online and apparently its normal to have some pain as yr uterus expands.

snap i also live in Hemel! Yes i get the 748 which runs to victoria via ludgate circus. I get off at ludgate and walk to bank which takes 15-20 mins. An annual ticket costs £1500. The service isn't amazing but everyone's really nice, you always get a seat and it means yr not at the mercy of London midland!

Justyouwaitandsee · 07/09/2014 12:29

Ooh how spooky! I work within walking distance of Bank! Do you fancy meeting up sometime? Will definitely give the coach some thought again. Might be a nice way to save a bit of extra cash before mat leave and at the moment with the alerts I am feeling rather anxious about getting the tube and crossing through both Euston and Kings X each day.

You have done sooo well to keep your secret from all those hens. Did you use an excuse like being on antibiotics?! I still find it exhausting, having to keep up the pretence. Am quite glad we've told most of our close family - it removes the pressure of people trying to get you to do things you shouldn't.

The pain has gone now, but someone suggested on the May thread, that it could be sciatica - and I think they're right. I've had it in the past but never that deep in my pelvis. Hope it's not going to be a regular thing. But good to know its nothing more sinister. We were googling the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy at one point last night.

Hope you have a relaxing evening to look forward to when you get back tonight.

OP posts:
catnip85 · 07/09/2014 14:42

Thanks Hun. Yes i cant wait to get home now! Struggling on the tube with a big heavy suitcase has left me shattered. Glad the pain has gone and hopefully it will be a one off for you. My boobs are really sore now and def look fuller. Also had that weird hangover feeling yesterday that you described :( i wish id booked tomorrow off to relax. Yes we should def meet up for a coffee! I haven't told my family yet so will be nice to have a comrade. DH and i are planning to break the news to close family on weds after my Drs app. How dis yr family react?

Justyouwaitandsee · 08/09/2014 23:08

Hey! How you doing? Hope you survived the day and didn't feel too exhausted?! Can't say too much as I'm still feeling sick, as I have done all day Envy Heading to bed now, hoping this phase passes soon!!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 09/09/2014 07:16

Oh dear that's not good. I hope this phase passes quickly for you. I'm ok thanks, had a nice early night on Sunday and felt much better for it. I had to go and buy jeggings and some loose tops yesterday though as only one pair of my jeans fit me now :( not sure how long I'm gonna be able to hide this for. Surely i shouldn't have a bump already- its way too early!

Justyouwaitandsee · 09/09/2014 08:34

Oh wow really? That is impressive baby bump growing abilities. Take it as a good sign! Wink Luckily I am already the proud owner of a couple of pairs of jeggings and a big fan of tunic tops so my wardrobe is quite helpful. I did wear a pair of fairly tight waisted work trousers last week but although they fitted, the pressure made me feel ill so had to undo them.

I have finally succumbed and called in sick today. Couldn't face the commute and we have a big event on tomorrow which I just don't think I will be able to face. Luckily I have booked next week off so hopefully once I am through this week, then I have survived the worst! Am contemplating buying some travel bands as it feels exactly like sea sickness. Sad

OP posts:
catnip85 · 09/09/2014 17:44

The travel bands are def worth a go- I've noticed that a few people on the pregnancy discussion board use them. Its good that you've got next wk off, gives you something to look fwd to and hopefully will give you some much needed rest.

I'm not sure if my bump is mostly still bloat or what but it looks decidedly baby like. I'm extremely small height and build wise so always wear quite fitted clothes but i am now embracing the floaty look big time!

got the Drs tmw morning to arrange ante natal care then breaking the news to our families. I'm actually pretty nervous!
