Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 07:08

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

For some reason I can't see your last post on the thread. Feeling much better today although am still off work and haven't yet got myself up and about.

Let me know how you get on at the doctors. I don't have my first appointment until the week after next. The surgery said it wasn't needed and I only needed to see the midwife at 8 weeks.

catnip85 · 11/09/2014 07:12

That's weird i cant see it either! It all went well at the dr. She sent me for a blood test to date the pregnancy properly as i hadn't gotten back to a regular cycle after the pill and im booked in with the midwife for the end of sept.

told the family too. They were all delighted but really really surprised. I think my dad was actually in shock!

how are you feeling today?

Justyouwaitandsee · 11/09/2014 22:56

Aww glad your family are pleased! And nice that they were surprised, ours seem to have been expecting it (it's our 2 year anniversary next week!)

I have felt well today, thankfully, so was back at work. Most don't seem to suspect although our HR manager made a quiet joke about whether she should be getting her forms ready. Luckily it took me a while to understand what she meant, so I think I carried off a look of genuine shock and surprise!

Major delays on the train tonight and all squashed in like sardines, so that wasn't much fun but I seem to be getting a bit of a bump as I was eventually offered a seat.

Any new symptoms yet?!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 12/09/2014 12:44

Maybe get a baby onboard badge? Sometimes people don't offer a seat even if they can see a bump.

I've had a mildly nauseous feeling for the past couple of days. Nothing awful but enough to put me off food. I get full really quickly too.

have you had any dizziness or lightheadedness? I've been getting it really bad. Mentioned it to the dr and she reckons its fairly normal!

Justyouwaitandsee · 12/09/2014 21:55

Hello! Another week survived Smile
and am now off for a week!
I actually picked up a baby on board badge but feel a bit of a fraud using it before I really truly need it. Plan to keep it handy in case I feel sick or faint or once it becomes to be uncomfortable.

I have had some light headedness / dizzy spells but not too bad. Kind of lumped it in with the hangover symptoms.

I notice you haven't joined the May bus? That is getting a bit busy for me. Can't keep up with all the comments!

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 12/09/2014 22:05

Sigh. I just watched a documentary on 9/11 with DH. Not sure it was such a good idea. Left me feeling really anxious and panicky and my chest feels really tight. Think I need a peppermint tea and to head to bed!! Sad

OP posts:
catnip85 · 13/09/2014 08:09

Hmm i try not to watch those programmes. I have a fear of flying but i have to do it a lot for work so find it best not to entertain ideas of plane crashes!

yes, sorry, i keep meaning to have a look at the may bus although if its really busy i probably wont join. I can only check the forums a few times a day so get left behind a bit on the conversation. Is it here in the antenatal section?

has there been anymore bfps on the conception thread? Its all gone a bit quiet of late

Justyouwaitandsee · 13/09/2014 10:39

Hello! Yes it's on the antenatal clubs thread, but I am really struggling to keep up. On top of that, lots of people are having major worries or problems and several confirmed miscarriages so I don't feel comfortable posting about how I'm feeling day to day. Have tried to offer support but it is really hard to remember the different stories of 20-30+ strangers and still more people joining the thread everyday.

The conception thread seems to have dropped off my 'I'm on' list so will have to go and hunt it out again in a bit. It would be nice to know how the others are getting on.

I am currently hiding upstairs in our room after my FIL offered to come over to help DH with some DIY - although I am not feeling very sociable and really just wanted to chill on my first day off!

I hope you have nice plans for the weekend...

OP posts:
catnip85 · 15/09/2014 07:15

I had a lovely weekend thanks, just far too busy! Next wkend will be reserved solely for sleeping and chilling. I feel totally and utterly exhausted at the moment no matter how much sleep i have.
did DH and FIL get the diy finished? I don't blame you for hiding!

im trying to avoid any talk of miscarriage etc at the moment. We all worry about it but its important to stay positive

Justyouwaitandsee · 15/09/2014 23:51

Hello! Haven't felt too great again today. Was properly sick after my breakfast so slept most if the morning then went food shopping before coming back and sleeping most of the afternoon! Only started to feel better about an hour ago.

The DIY did get done, but took all day(!) so am very glad to have this week off. Managed to end up hosting a family gathering this weekend so need to ensure I get as much rest as I can.

Hope you are feeling ok...

OP posts:
catnip85 · 16/09/2014 07:35

I'm jealous, wish i had the wk off! Enjoy yr time at home and rest up. I've not got much new to report, im generally doing ok. Got my first midwife app next wk. We need to decide whether to get the tests for downs syndrome done. Apparently because im under 30 i cant have the tests done on the nhs so will have to go private!

Justyouwaitandsee · 16/09/2014 10:23

I have my first midwife appt next week too (on the 24th) it seems strange as it will be my first time seeing any professional.

Oh I didn't know being over 30 was the age criteria for the Down's syndrome test. I don't think we will have it done, even if it is offered. I need to do some more reading but remember that it certainly used to increase the chances of miscarriage.
And we have agreed that even if the baby has DS then we wouldn't have an abortion.

Just going to discuss everything next week and see where we are I guess...

OP posts:
catnip85 · 16/09/2014 17:51

That's fair enough, its such a personal choice isn't it? From what i understand the first round of tests involve a nuchal translucency scan and a blood test, that gives you a probability estimate and from there if the probability is high you can choose whether to have the invasive tests which give a definitive answer on chromosomal abnormalities. Its all v complex!

Siarie · 17/09/2014 11:16

Hi ladies,

I'm feeling terrible today so apologises for this being short and sweet. Had to get some blood taken but on the way back the bus was really full and I had to stand. Before I knew it I was feeling faint, jumped off the bus to try and catch my breath. Walked home as it wasn't far and I couldn't stand getting on another bus.

I'll have to read up when I'm feeling well enough.

Justyouwaitandsee · 17/09/2014 11:33

Hi Siarie - great to have you join us! The pace on this thread is a little slower than the big bus threads, so easier to keep up with when you're feeling poorly!

I am off work this week but not achieved a huge amount. We had hoped to do a bit of work around the house. Have you had your booking in appt with the midwife this week?

Catnip - it is indeed all very complex. Found out today that Watford is one of only 5 hospitals in the country where you can donate the baby's cord for medical research or lifesaving transplants and operations. Another thing to ask the midwife about!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 17/09/2014 12:47

justyouwait i had no idea about Watford and cord blood! I will indeed ask.

hi siarie good to see u, and sorry to hear yr not well. Ive also been getting faintness. Hope u feel better soon

teachermummy2b · 20/09/2014 17:48

Woohoo! I have graduated from the 'Plunge: bc pill' thread with a BFP this morning - on hubby's birthday!

Did any of you visit your gp or did you just register with midwife straight away? Not sure what to do now i have my BFP!

Sorry to hear of the nausea/dizziness, fingers crossed it doesnt last for long xx

catnip85 · 20/09/2014 18:14

Hey teacher congratulations!!! What fantastic news :) i made an app with my gp first and they put me on to the midwife, got my booking app next wk. How are you feeling?

Justyouwaitandsee · 20/09/2014 22:10

Aww wow! Congrats Teachermummy Smile

I rang my surgery and asked what to do. They said I didn't need to see my gp and booked me straight in to see the midwife at 8 weeks (next week!) What is your estimated due date? Have you worked it out on the NHS calculator?

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 20/09/2014 23:33

Ps. Don't you need to announce the news on the plunge conception thread?! Wink

OP posts:
teachermummy2b · 21/09/2014 10:33

Thanks guys!

I totally see what you mean about the 'bus' threads - I prefer it here in our more exclusive threadWink

I think I may have to actually make a gp appointment as I have had BV in the past, and the day before I got my bfp my knickers smelled like bleach (sorry for tmi) - may just be something to do with hormones? But BV can cause miscarriage so need to get checked.

According to NHS thingy edd is 31st May :)

I will go and update the original thread now!

Justyouwaitandsee · 21/09/2014 11:16

Ooh that's exciting! So you still make it into May Smile

Just been posting on the May thread but it gives me a headache trying to keep up with all the updates!!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 24/09/2014 09:55

Hi ladies, how are you all doing? I feel rotten today, completely and utterly exhausted so told work id work from home. DH is giving me grief about taking the day off for tiredness and now i feel really guilty :(

Justyouwaitandsee · 24/09/2014 13:05

Hi catnip - don't feel guilty! I had to take two days off for sickness fairly early on.

I am supposed to be working from home but my midwife appt took the whole morning especially when she couldn't get any blood so had to send me to the hospital clinic.

She has brought my due date forward to the 1st May. Bought myself some nice food for lunch but still starving!!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 24/09/2014 13:21

Oh you poor thing, i had the same problem at the hospital a few weeks, they just couldn't get any blood. How did the app go otherwise- did they give you lots of useful info? My first app is tomorrow so i suppose i should be prepared for another blood test?

i think if i was actually being sick DH would be more understanding. He doesn't seem to realise that extreme tiredness and nausea can be just as debilitating
