Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 07:08

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

That's good that you've got something to focus on. Def keep some plain crackers or something in yr bag as I found the sickness got worse when I was hungry x

wanttobeamummyin2015 · 10/11/2014 10:01

Hello Lovebugs and catnip! Recognise you from the taking the plunge conception thread.

Guess what, I am graduating today! Got my bfp on cycle 2. EDD 25 July, am 3+3 atm! Fx all goes smoothly, this is my first so no idea what to expect!

catnip85 · 10/11/2014 12:37

Hello mummy and congratulations!!! So lovely to have another graduate. How are you feeling?

wanttobeamummyin2015 · 10/11/2014 12:42

Feel fine! I was convinced I wasn't pg this month! Only symptoms are slightly tender boobs (though no more than usual pre-af), some v mild cramping (again not out of ordinary) and a strong metallic taste. Felt bit nauseous earlier, but think that was more shock from the bfp than a symptom!

How are you? How many weeks are you?

Lovebugs2014 · 10/11/2014 12:59

Congratulations wanttobe!!!! Super news you have come across to this thread! I had similar symptoms to you in the beginning but now in at 6wks and I'm super tired and just started feeling sick abd struggling to eat anything other than salty crisps and toast! Enjoy meals out with your DH whilst you can as symptoms could change in a few weeks and you may not feel up to doing much xx

catnip85 · 10/11/2014 13:18

I had the cramping too for weeks and weeks, perfectly normal I'm told, and it does eventually go away. Was your DP happy when you found out, and have you told anyone else yet?

I'm doing well thanks. I'm 15wks this week and starting to think about buying some baby bits and preparing the nursery. Been v lucky to avoid sickness but been mega tired... Like might be going into hibernation tired!

Justyouwaitandsee · 10/11/2014 13:31

Hi everyone, I am doing ok. Marched in the Cenotaph parade yesterday, which was pretty amazing (although my legs do ache a bit from all the standing!) and then was up early for a radio interview this morning. I am feeling much better and much more energetic. Like catnip I had to abandon housework from around wk 6, but just able to pick it up again now. Although the early start this morning did make me sick, and had to stop off at the station toilets on my way to work (all the 30p charges are starting to add up!)
I have have cravings for salt and vinegary things, plus crisps and macdonalds.

Hi catnip DH reaponse was 'cool' and 'are you sure it isn't a false poaitive' but I assured him and he is v excited! Have told my cousin who I am v close to and will tell my mum tonight as she I an ob-gyn so no hiding there. And then I at least can talk to her and not pester the midwife wih my worries!

Thanks lovebugs we were both v lucky with getting upduffed so fast!

catnip85 · 10/11/2014 18:01

Aw its so nice when yr able to share the excitement and chat to people about the baby! V pleased for you mummy Grin

Yes let me know what yr midwife says justyouwait. I think we will get to listen to the babies heartbeats at 16wk...? I hope we will anyway

Justyouwaitandsee · 11/11/2014 19:38

Ooh I hadn't thought about hearing the heartbeat -my DH has decided to come along now just in case ;-)

After weeks of not being able to face much food, my appetite seems to have picked up again. Late finish today though, and absolutely shattered!

Catnip - do you want to look at a date for getting together with our DHs?!

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 12/11/2014 13:17

Back from my appt and we heard the heartbeat! Thanks so much for the tipoff catnip. DH would have been so disappointed to miss out.

I asked about the 20wk scan appt but she said not to worry and the letter should come through soon. She said we should chase if we hadn't heard anything by wk18.

catnip85 · 12/11/2014 18:10

Oh fantastic! I cant wait for next Tues now :) good to know about the scan too. I'm looking fwd to seeing the baby again.

Yes def lets arrange a date. The next 10 days are a bit manic for me as were launching a new website but after that is fine. Text me some dates

Lovebugs2014 · 13/11/2014 17:00

Feeling sorry for myself as been getting progressively sicker this week, not actually being sick but feeling increasingly like I want to be at any minute :-( struggled to eat anything today but a bag of hoolahoops this morning and had to come home this aft from work as felt so weak and sick. I really love that I am pregnant and wouldn't change that but feeling like this is starting to get me down and I feel like I have no control over my body and its impacting on my work and doing anything at the mo!!Confused

catnip85 · 13/11/2014 17:44

Sending you big hugs lovebugs. Chin up, I know its horrible but it will get easier and the end result will be worth it! Is yr DP able to help with the cooking etc so you can chill out when you get home?

Lovebugs2014 · 13/11/2014 18:20

Thanks catnip, yes DH is trying to be supportive but think he wonders what has happened to his wife as I feel I cant do anything but rest and moan about feeling sick all the time! I have so much going on with work and studying that it worries me this could be life for weeks longer and how I will cope! Mother in law in on her way over now as I cried down the phone...I know this will be worth it but wasn't how I imagined.

catnip85 · 13/11/2014 18:38

Aw hun, pregnancy is def a big reality check. It sounds like you've got a great support network though and I'm sure they will be a great help if you explain to them how you feel. Were here for you too if you need to talk. Maybe have a nice hot bath and an early night. Things will look better in the morn x

Justyouwaitandsee · 13/11/2014 19:27

Hi Lovebugs- you sound exactly like I did! Maybe try reading back through my earlier posts. I was nauseous, exhausted, then physically sick. Struggled to concentrate and stay awake at work and couldn't do anything around the house. My DH tried his best but made us both realise how much I normally do, and I don't think either of us expected me to suffer so badly. At times I told him that I wished I'd never got pregnant. It does get better though - I promise! I felt better from around 14wks. But might be sooner for you. Hang on in there! xx

Lovebugs2014 · 15/11/2014 20:34

So after the last few days of struggling to eat and a hellish day of having the runs after eating anything small I rang Nhs direct and they said its likely I have gastroenteritis and these aren't normal pregnancy symptoms! Although I feel quite rough and just want to get better I am a bit relieved that it's a bug and will go in a day or two!

Justyouwaitandsee · 16/11/2014 01:12

Well I wouldn't completely trust that advice! Lots of us on the May bus thread had diarrhoea in the early stages, and reduced eating. The Ovia app lists it as a common symptom in early pregnancy. At one point I did worry that I had a stomach bug, but whether it was or not, I still think it was pregnancy linked (you are more suspectible to bugs) as I normally have a stomach of steel.

Whatever it is just do what you have to do to get through each day. Don't feel guilty about not eating 'enough' or the right things, try to eat little and often and whatever you fancy. Baby won't suffer if your not eating wholemeal bread and green veg. I lived off salt and vinegar Pringles and Maccy Ds for several weeks.

Lovebugs2014 · 23/11/2014 10:28

Just to update, I'm feeling so much better after a horrid week starting with a stomach bug and ending with getting a bout of shingles which I get when my immune system is struggling...anyway all is ok with baby after a trip to Dr to check and although I'm being sick when I first wake up I don't feel as sick throughout the day. We are excited that its 8 wks today and the weeks seems to be passing quickly!

catnip85 · 23/11/2014 15:48

Glad yr feeling better lovebugs, sounds like you've been through the wars this wk! Have you got a date for yr 12wk scan yet?

Lovebugs2014 · 23/11/2014 23:10

Thanks catnip, it really was the worse ive ever felt in terms of being ill do I'm pleased to be feeling much better! No news yet on when I see the midwife but hoping its soon so that the scan will be booked before Xmas. How are you doing?

catnip85 · 24/11/2014 07:24

I'm alright thanks, getting quite a neat little bump now. My 20wk scan is booked for Dec 19th so I'm looking fwd to that. Need to start thinking about maternity clothes really!
