Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

I'm in hunsdon just outside Hertford ... Will be going to harlow hospital but hoping for a home birth if all goes well ! :)

catnip85 · 15/01/2015 08:42

I love how this site brings people together! How about u lovebugs- where are you based?

Justyouwait I'm jealous that you got an extra scan! Sounds like its for a good reason though. Will a low lying placenta affect your birth options or can you choose where you will be?

I'm going to post a bump pic later! Seriously in the last 2 wks my belly has just shot out and this is one very active baby (she responds to pokes already with a kick back in the same spot!) if I manage to carry her to term ill be amazed

catnip85 · 15/01/2015 08:44

Forgot to ask kate- have you got a date for yr first antenatal appointment and have you told yr family yet?

Justyouwaitandsee · 15/01/2015 18:06

Hi catnip - hopefully if the placenta has moved by the next scan then we can go ahead as planned with the natural/water birth at the ABC. But if it hasn't, then it's possible I'll need a c-section. But he seemed confident it should sort itself out. He was a lovely man though so reassuring to know he is there if needed.

My bump feels more comfortable than it did over xmas - it feels like baby has finally settled into a comfortable position, maybe yours will do the same?

Bump seems to vary quite a bit and depending on what I'm wearing - here are two recent pics. Would love to see yours! Smile

Woo kate! Congrats! You were on the taking the plunge ttc thread at same time I and lovebugs joined :)

catnip85 · 16/01/2015 07:58

Thats good justyouwait it sounds like you've found an excellent consultant. Fingers crossed for you.

If anything my bump is getting more uncomfortable- I think maybe its my skin stretching. Sometimes she gets into a weird position and its incredibly uncomfortable, I have to get up and walk around or feel like I might pop! Theres clearly nasty stretch marks coming my way.

Will post a pic tonight

Justyouwaitandsee · 16/01/2015 08:02

Are you using any skin products? Having tried a few my favourite is sanctuary mum-to-be collagen boosting body butter. I am trying to use this every night and it feels lovely. I also have some bio oil which I sometimes use as an alternative.

I was given some of the sanctuary body butter for xmas- its gorgeous isn't it! Ive also got the sanctuary stretchmark oil and some plain cocoa butter. A friend swears by it and bought me a pot. Its nice but does make you smell like a mars bar!

Here's the bump pic...actually now I see it from that angle it doesn't look quite as humungous as I thought!

Justyouwaitandsee · 16/01/2015 20:22

Aww! Looking great hun! I do think are bumps look similar. Hopefully you have just been through a growth spurt and it will settle down...

Thankyou wantto :) ive already had my first booking in appointment with the midwife.. But was told I would probably have to ring the hospital myself to find out my scan date as they are very behind and haven't been sending out appointments on time !!! Yes I've told my family and s couple of close friends as they all knew I was trying and when I was due to POAS etc lol xx

catnip85 · 19/01/2015 13:18

Ah they must be so excited for you! Crazy that the hospital is that far behind though.

I'm off to a midwife led pregnancy class tonight so that should be interesting...

Lovebugs2014 · 20/01/2015 22:51

Happy new year all! Lovely to hear how you are all getting on and seeing bump pics, I'm finally feeling a bit like a normal person again after not being sick in a morning since Friday!!! This is a major milestone and I feel I have enjoyed the last few days more than the last few months! All is going well with baby, heard heart beat today at my 16wk appointment so can't wait to see next scan in mid feb! I'm Essex based so will be going to Princess Alexander hospital and hoping for a water birth if I stay low risk and don't need to be induced...apparently quite a few first timers go overdue and need to be induced-just hoping it all kicks off naturally so I can stay in the birth unit. Anyway I hope you all continue to enjoy being preggers and I'm excited to hear how you all get on in the coming months xxx

catnip85 · 21/01/2015 07:23

Glad yr feeling better lovebugs. The next few weeks are the nicest so enjoy!

We covered water birth at the antenatal class on Monday and I'm seriously considering it now, it sounds very relaxing. What made you decide to go for it? We also met one of the midwives from Watford MLU and she was lovely so I'm feeling reassured about the whole shebang!

Justyouwaitandsee · 21/01/2015 23:39

Hi Lovebugs!
Good to hear from you. Sounds like we had very similar experiences for the first tri - I was also sick right up to 16wks. Was HORRENDOUS. The past few have been lovely though with very few symptoms, and have honestly been a breeze compared to the times I thought I would never enjoy pregnancy. Have you felt any kicks yet? Hopefully it won't be long now! Smile

I am also hoping for a water birth Catnip, but a bit nervous that I am not sure how I am going to cope or what sorts of techniques will suit me best. All feels a bit like planning for the unknown! Confused

OP posts:
catnip85 · 22/01/2015 08:03

There is a big element of the unknown but the midwives seemed quite flexible so I'm sure they will support you in trying lots of different techniques if need be.

Strange question but would we need to bring bikini tops or similar for a water birth...?

Lovebugs2014 · 22/01/2015 08:42

I've started to feel a few flutters the last few days which I think is baby as I'm very in tune with my body so have felt when I ovulated and the stretching of my uterus! Hope that doesn't mean I'll feel more pain in the end! I've heard first hand from a few friends who had a water birth that it was good for them in terms of pain control, relaxing and takes the weight off you. I think most mums to be buy a bikini top or tankini to wear in the water and I'm planning on doing that, fingers crossed we stay low risk and don't need to be induced as they rule out water births and being on the birth unit of they happen as you have to go on the labour ward...I'm keeping an open mind to anything I might have to have done as its really up to mother nature how labour goes!xx

Justyouwaitandsee · 22/01/2015 19:45

I have a wonderful Emma Jane maternity sleep bra which is so, so comfy. Imagine I would just wear that but sure you could equally wear a bikini.

OP posts:
catnip85 · 23/01/2015 08:26

Yes comfort is def the name of the game! I dont really care what I look like. A tankini is a good idea- I think I feel less exposed.

And yes hopefully no inductions lovebugs but first babies do tend to be late

catnip85 · 23/01/2015 08:27

P.s I felt flutterings from about 13-14 weeks lovebugs so it probably is yr baby Grin
