Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/09/2014 07:08

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

My DH has struggled too. Especially with the fact that I don't feel miraculously better when morning becomes afternoon! He is finally starting to get it after I told him to imagine the worst hangover he has ever had for a month solid!

Didn't learn much at the appt. she asked a lot of questions about medical history etc and took my height, weight, blood pressure. Then had my bloods done at the hospital. The arm that she tried unsuccessfully to take blood from is aching quite a bit but the one the phlebotomist took the samples from is fine.

Did you get a date for your first scan at least? That's the exciting bit isn't it!

Justyouwaitandsee · 24/09/2014 15:51

No date yet. She was going to book the appts today and should get dates through the post...

Hey ladies! How is everyone?

According to the midwife I am 9 weeks today and I am feeling lots better. I am hoping that this feeling stays and the sickness was a week 6/7/8 thing!

I also got my scan date through for Oct 20th! Everyone glad it's the weekend?!

catnip85 · 26/09/2014 18:08

Glad yr feeling better Hun, hopefully that's the end of the sickness. I should get my scan date through soon as well. V excited!

i am SO glad its Friday!!!

Justyouwaitandsee · 26/09/2014 19:28

Aww great. How are you feeling? And how about your DH? Wink

Btw - my scan is being done at Hemel General, good to not to have to go to Watford! Hope this might be the same for you...

OP posts:
catnip85 · 30/09/2014 07:12

Sorry for the slow reply! I'm doing ok thanks, although I'm absolutely starving all the time. I'm hoping that's normal!

Great that yr scan is at Hemel. I was really surprised that they have an antenatal unit but not a birth facility, I assumed they didn't have anything but saves a trek to Watford so not complaining!

catnip85 · 30/09/2014 07:15

DH is wildly excited! Keep having to make him put baby toys back on the shelf in shops!!

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/10/2014 08:33

Aww! That's really nice! Early on, I was really reluctant to talk too much about 'the baby' in case things went wrong, plus feeling so ill didn't make me feel very charitable towards it Hmm so DH agreed to stick with this.

Now I am feeling better and far more positive, but he is still sticking by our original rules. I think he really wants to wait to see the scan.

I bought a really good book online this week called the first time parent handbook. It gives loads of good advice about what you should buy, and what not to waste money on. As well as step by step guides to prepping for hospital, birth, post birth, coming home etc - right through key milestones of the first year. It seems really comprehensive but easy to read.

How are you feeling? According to the midwife I am now exactly 10 weeks today. I am feeling sooo much better, basically back to feeling as if I'm not pregnant (or hungover!) with so much more energy than before. I makes me realise just how bad I felt over the past few weeks...

How are you doing Siarie? Any updates?

catnip85 · 03/10/2014 15:35

I'm glad you're feeling better, I cant wait for this exhaustion to pass! The book sounds good, ill look it up. I got one on my kindle called the new pregnancy bible which has been really useful too, would def recommend.

We were the same- didn't wanna talk about the baby too much or buy anything just in case, but we've found ourselves talking about names recently and stuff we will need to get for when the baby arrives. Its actually pretty exciting! DH seems determined to get every last job round the house done too. I dont think we will get much time for home improvements next year.

Got my scan date through- oct 20th. Do they give you an estimated due date then? I didn't get one at my midwife app.

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/10/2014 17:25

Oh! How funny! My scan is on the 20th too! Is yours at Hemel? What time?

Perhaps we can meet up then?

OP posts:
catnip85 · 03/10/2014 17:51

Oh wow! Yes Mines at 8.30am, bit of an unsociable time unfortunately. How about you? would be great to meet for a coffee :)

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/10/2014 18:01

Aww at least you get it over with early, and then have the rest of the day to enjoy and admire the photo! Unless you are planning to go into work afterwards? We have both taken the day off.

Ours is at 10.30am. Not sure how long they take, but I guess if they run late then we might coincide.

Could always try to meet up at some point before? Maybe one night after work if you could face it?

I think we are already settled on our name choices. (That is something we had discussed before even trying) but have agreed that we will keep these to ourselves until after the baby arrives. Can do without all sorts of unsolicited opinions!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 03/10/2014 18:17

Yeah I totally get that, everyone has an opinion on names! I think we have a girls name but still cant agree on a boys name.

We will probably go into work after the scan (no idea how long it will take though) but would def be up for meeting after work or on lunch. Which days are good for you?

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/10/2014 18:31

That would be great. Any day can be good, although I have a few projects in the pipeline. Will PM you.

I think we are the opposite on names. Pretty set on our choices for boys, but a bit more undecided for girls. I have one I love but dh is a bit unsure (although it seems to be growing on him) but we do also have a couple we both like. Just anxiously watching all our friends facebook baby announcements, just in case we get scuppered by someone else!

Isn't your scan date a bit early? Perhaps they think you might be further along?

OP posts:
catnip85 · 06/10/2014 18:22

Yeah I thought that but as part of my first gp app I had a blood test to check on hormone levels and get a better idea of dates. It came back a bit ahead of what I thought so I'm actually 10wks tmw!

PM me when you've got some dates and we can work something out.

Btw have you heard from anyone on the taking the conception thread recently? We haven't had many graduates in the last month...

Justyouwaitandsee · 06/10/2014 19:22

Oh! How exciting!! I haven't heard anything back about my blood tests and the midwife said I wouldn't until my 16 week appointment - which seems a bit pointless if I turn out to be low on anything or further ahead than I've calculated. How did you get your results? Through the post?

I haven't heard from anyone specifically but keep checking in. Still seems like a lot of them are still getting started or preparing to come off the pill. Just realised we haven't heard from teachermummy recently either...are you still reading the thread TM?!

Will PM re. Meeting up...

OP posts:
catnip85 · 12/10/2014 13:04

I dont think ill hear about my blood tests taken at the booking app until my 16wk app either. After I saw my gp she sent me to the hospital for a single blood test to test my hormone levels, just because I wasn't 100% sure of my dates. I called the surgery for the result a wk later. Tbh I dont think it was really necessary but still nice to know.

No we haven't heard from teacher or siarie in a while. Hope theyre both ok...

Justyouwaitandsee · 14/10/2014 18:31

Hello! I am now a bit worried as I seem to have gotten over the worst of my sickness, but now almost feel like I'm not even pregnant. Am a bit worries that I'll turn up for the scan and they won't find anything Confused

Trying to tell myself not to be silly...
How are you doing?

OP posts:
catnip85 · 14/10/2014 18:46

Dont worry at all. Apart from the constant exhaustion I could easily forget that I'm pregnant some days! Its a good thing that you're feeling better and yr scan is less than a wk away now!!

I'm ok but was bridesmaid at my friends wedding on Saturday and I think all the prep and running around has taken its toll. I can barely get out of bed this week Sad

teachermummy2b · 14/10/2014 20:58

Hi ladies, im still here! This thread keeps disappearing off my 'im on' list so have to search for it and im very tired and lazy at the minute!

How funny that you live near each other and have your scans at the same hospital on the same day! My first midwife appointment is on the 20th so a big day for me too - although obviously not as exciting as a scan!

Have either of you told work yet or decided when to?

Justyouwaitandsee · 14/10/2014 21:39

Aww that's great teachermummy! Obviously 20th is an important date all round! Yes, it's sooo strange about living so close to Catnip.

Can you add this thread to your watching list?! It's great to have you back Smile

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 14/10/2014 22:22

Oops - didn't answer all the points!

Catnip - I think you deserve to take it easy after a busy weekend! So glad you haven't had to suffer with any sickness.

And teachermummy, I am still wondering when to tell work. I am definitely waiting until after my scan but a colleague is getting married very soon and I don't want to take the attention away from her before her big day, but equally don't want to tell everyone else while she is away on honeymoon...tricky decision!

OP posts:
catnip85 · 15/10/2014 18:57

Glad yr still with us teacher! I was starting to get worried.

I'm going to hold off telling work as long as possible as Im due a pay rise and want to make sure I get it before announcing. The plan is to wait until after Xmas or, as close to it as I can get without people guessing! How about you?

teachermummy2b · 15/10/2014 21:00

Hiya, im in a similar situation. Got an appraisal tomorrow and ideally want to wait for my scan too. The only thing is if I can't arrange my scan for outside school hours (don't know how possible that is) then I may have to tell them otherwise I won't be allowed time off to go for it!
