Taking the Plunge: Pregnancy thread

As requested / promised, here is a brand new and sparkly thread for any graduates of the 'taking the plunge' thread over on the conception board who has now got their BFP, or anyone who has finally got their BFP after many years on the pill.

The (virtual) champagne is on ice and ready to celebrate each and every new arrival. Here's hoping for a sudden rush, after a very slow start!

My stats:
Age 30, DC#1, EDD 4th May, currently 5 weeks pregnant

Now where are you Catnip?!

Good luck for your midwife appt today Teachermummy! Smile

I am just in the process of forcing downs the required pints of water before heading off for my scan.

Hoping catnip will have already had good news from hers?

Aww! That's gorgeous! I'm not surprised your baby was fast asleep given the time of the appt. Smile

All went well for us too, although ours is a wriggler. When the sonographer started scanning the baby was wriggling its feet and toes and you could see the heart beating. It then settled down and wouldn't co-operate for the nuchal measurement. She got me to wake him/her up with a cough. We were able to watch the baby jump and he/she put her hands up in front of her face before turning over on its side with back towards the screen, as if to say 'will you all go away and leave me alone?' They think I'm now late 12 to 13 wks so due date brought forward to 28th April.

Ooh an April baby how exciting! So glad it went well for you. I was a little disappointed ours didn't move more but on the plus side it was very easy to photograph!

Let us know how your appointment goes teacher...

Justyouwaitandsee · 20/10/2014 14:40

Aww - well next time I recommend a good cough to wake him/her up. Ours looked great on screen but the pics are not quite so good. In one it's actually turned its head away.

Only problem is that I now feel guilty everytime I cough, in case I wake him/her up or give him a shock!

Oh dont feel bad- ive developed a horrible cold and am sneezing pretty violently. No wonder the poor little thing was asleep if I kept it up all night!

Did you have a lady called Helen do your scan? If so I gather she was over from Stevenage for the day and the machine was different to her usual one. It took them a while to get it working for me!

Justyouwaitandsee · 20/10/2014 17:51

Aw - I'm not actually feeling that guilty. Should have used a winky face!

Sorry to hear about your cold. Hope you have some nice food, hot bath and cosy bed to look forward to tonight.

catnip85 · 21/10/2014 18:46

I'm really glad it went well teacher :) did they give you a rough due date?

teachermummy2b · 21/10/2014 21:22

Yes catnip, 31st May :) So a little bit behind you and justyouwait x

Justyouwaitandsee · 22/10/2014 07:11

Aww that's nice - so around the bank holiday weekend? Is that what you were expecting? How are you feeling? I finally seem to be over most of my sickness but still very tired...

OP posts:
Justyouwaitandsee · 26/10/2014 09:28

Hello ladies! How is everyone doing? I am still being sick fairly regularly. Had to leave a wedding early yesterday and was sick on our way home Sad

Hi ladies, just checking in. Nice to see some scan pictures, I'm 13+6 today and i'll upload my scan picture later as Its on my phone.

I'm still getting sick on the weekends weirdly but week days I've been feeling pretty normal mostly.

Siarie · 26/10/2014 12:37

Beautiful pic siarie! Congratulations.

Sorry to hear yr both still feeling sick though. I'm doing ok, just the tiredness still. Broke the good news to close friends and the rest of our family yesterday so had quite a nice weekend

Question: When is the right time to start buying bits for the nursery, clothes etc? I don't wanna leave it all til the last minute as its looking pretty expensive!

Justyouwaitandsee · 28/10/2014 07:06

Hello!! So according to the sonographer, I am 14 weeks today and officially into the 2nd trimester. Baby is the size of a beetroot or lemon depending on which app I listen to.

We told our wider family at the weekend too. Lots of tears from great-grandparents to be!

Re. Buying things, my mum is very strict on these things so while we are looking (and saving), I don't think we will begin to buy anything until the new year. Everyone is very keen to buy for us though - mum and dad want to buy the whole travel system, and my nan has offered to pay for a bedside crib, while my PIL have a barely used cot they have stored since their older grandchildren were little.

Sickness does seem better, just need need to be careful not to push myself too hard or let myself get too tired as that is when it strikes...

Ps. Meant to say congrats on the scan siarie! Looks great Smile

Has everyone booked in for a flu jab? I am due to go on sat morning, 16wk appt with midwife booked in for 12th Nov xx

OP posts:
catnip85 · 28/10/2014 07:26

Ooh second trimester! I'll be 13 weeks on Friday apparently so a little bit behind you. I had my flu jab about a month ago- my arm was a little sore for a day or two but didn't have a temperature or any fluey symptoms. It was pretty undramatic tbh!

My parents have offered to buy our cot too which I'm really grateful for and MIL (who is a proper hoarder) seems to have a lot of stuff in the loft from when DH was a baby. It might be a bit manky by now but I'm willing to take a look!

Lovebugs2014 · 30/10/2014 22:44

Hi all, mind if I join you? Proudly graduated from the TTC thread to here on Sunday when got my BFP! I'm 31, married and this is our first. We have only been trying since mid Sept when I stopped the pill so still a bit shocked it happened the first month! I'll be 5wks on Sunday and only symptom is needing to wee in the night and waking up earlier. Feel good though and eating healthy so far! Grin

Justyouwaitandsee · 31/10/2014 04:55

Yay! Congrats Lovebugs! Lovely to have you with us Smile - amazing for it to happen in your first month of trying. We started in April/May and it took us until August to get our BFP.
I am 30, married and expecting our first. Married for just over 2yrs.
Whereabouts do you live? Catnip and I discovered we both live in herts/work in London...

OP posts:
Lovebugs2014 · 31/10/2014 06:53

Thanks Justyouwaitandsee, I still can't quite believe it's happened so soon and just took another test to be sure as we're telling my close family this weekend! I'm London based too Smile

Justyouwaitandsee · 31/10/2014 07:36

Have you used one of the CB digitals which tell you how many weeks? I found those really helpful for making it seem more real. In total I did two FRs and then two CB digis. The first said 2-3 wks and then the next one a week or two later said 3+ weeks which reassured me my hormone levels were still rising.

Have you called your gp surgery to see what their process is? Do you see the gp or go straight to midwife at 8wks?

Have you used the NHS calculator to give an idea of your due date?

OP posts:
Lovebugs2014 · 31/10/2014 09:18

I'm pretty sure I ovulated when the tests showed I was and the date of my last period was 29th sept so I've used a calculator and they say 5/6th July (I've tried a few and they vary!). Think that makes me about 5wks on Sunday but I've only tested with a digital one without the weeks and the ones that show two lines. I'm vowing not to buy any more now as this mornings was the third and last test I had in the house. I'm seeing my GP next week who is lovely so hoping she will book in whatever I need and tell me all I need to know Grin

Lovebugs2014 · 31/10/2014 12:35

Bit random but does anyone else have sore thigh muscles as though you have done lots of lunges (which I haven't)-surely can't be a symptom?!?!

catnip85 · 31/10/2014 15:03

Congratulations lovebugs!! Fantastic news and great to have another graduate.

How are you feeling apart from the thighs? I've been extremely lazy the past couple of months so no thigh ache for me I'm afraid!
