Hi All, thought I would start a 3rd trimester thread, as most are past 23 weeks now!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Elibean · 29/09/2006 17:35

weirdbird, also cold cold water on legs before going to bed (does something good to circulation) and, supposedly, tonic water. Not so sure about that one, but loving my slimline tonic every evening anyway.

Spina, Nigella cake sounds awesome...could it be the perfect antidote to all those pg symptoms?? If so, let me at it (let me at it anyway)...

Olihan · 29/09/2006 20:13

Spina, we'll set up a thread for 'Should have been born in December babies' . I'm another one who will pretty definitely be giving birth in Jan, having had a 41 week and then a 42 week pg. I know I am going to be SO jealous as everyone else on here pops their babies out and I'm left until the bitter end .

Was thinking the other day, I should have joined the due in Jan thread - then I'd be one of the first!!

dublindee · 30/09/2006 17:32

Hi all - been over in Ireland and generally manic in work so haven't been back for ages. Took me a while to figure out where you'd all got to!

Went to midwives on Friday and was told that bump measured 34 weeks rather than 30 so it's one of 3 things:

  • dates wrong (which I can't see how they are)
  • huge baby (my ds was 9lbs 1oz anyway so not looking forward to bigger than that. they said a c/s would be best if it continues this way gulp)
  • loads of amniotic fluid.

I have an antenatal appointment booked for Tuesday in the hospital so they can check his growth rate. Eeek!

lubella · 30/09/2006 23:32

Loulou you are a sweetie - I am now totally convinced not to go mad and will use that list.

Having said that I have had such a tough day I have to tell you all about it - Peter Jones Nursery dept sooo stressful, looked at changing tables and couldn't find a mat to fit to the top of it - can you believe??!! My Mum and Dad and DH came as we were going to make a nice day out of it - what a joke that was.
Ended up traipsing halfway accross the west end totally unessecarily, had the exact same problem in Mothercare with staff who were just so bloody awful and clueless, tried to look for a cot and got told a million different views on bumpers, round vs flat slats, blankets, sleep suits oh whatever!! I just came home and sobbed at the stress of it all, how the hell am I going to cope when the baby is born if I can't even get thorugh shopping for the stuff?????!*~%@£$!
Sorry I am probably not making much sense but I just have to get it off my chest I feel really shit about it all

jabberwocky · 01/10/2006 01:49

Here's another thread that talks about the good and the bad stuff. There are some things on there that I didn't use for ds that I'm going to try this time, like the Tiny Love Activity Mat and a lambskin rug.

lubella, dh converted a little wine cart of mine to ds's changing table and it worked beautifully! The mat fit like it was made for it. Of course, it did kind of make my single life flash before my eyes when I got a diaper from a shelf that previously held wine bottles

Will take a look at the other thread as well. Even though we have most of the stuff we need it's always fun to get a few new things

accessorizequeen · 01/10/2006 13:36

I do understand where you're coming from lubella, just deciding about a pushchair had me stressed for about 2 months! Probably easier to read about it all on mumsnet and then buy online! Can't understand that changing mats wouldn't fit changing tables??? Not surprised that mothercare were unhelpful, a lot of people have said the same thing. Whatever it is you want to buy, you'll find a discussion about it somewhere on mumsnet...I remember getting so confused about bumpers I never bought any & shops are rather stupid in that they sell cot duvets etc but of course don't mention that you can't use them until babies are a year old. Grrrr.
LOL at spina 'will you talk to me if I have baby in Jan'. No, I think you should drink raspberry leaf tea & ensure you give bith on due date!!! I have worked out I only have to go 9 days over to hit christmas (was 14 days over with ds1).
Anyone else still having name trouble, dp has vetoed all of my suggestions & I'd really like to have a shortlist by now!

weirdbird · 01/10/2006 22:25

I really should learn

Do NOT watch Cold Case while you are still pregnant, you cannot cope with the upset!!!!

Have now been crying for 35min and feel wrung out and ready for bed

accessorizequeen · 01/10/2006 22:33

What's Cold Case? DP hogs the tv so I never get to watch anything...
Jabber, I wish I had bought the tiny love black, white & red playmat, I think it's only available in the US - I love tiny love anything, really lovely toys. And I have been trying to buy a lambskin too this time round but haven't found one that's reasonable yet, you have to buy special short-haired ones for babies don't you? I'm also going to get a fleecy snuggle wrap thing (with legs) instead of using blankets, could never get ds covered properly.

jabberwocky · 01/10/2006 23:21

aq,this is the one I got. It came yesterday and it's really lovely. The pile is pretty long but it is the baby one.

We had a tiny love mobile for ds last time (hope it still works!) and I did get the red, black and white activity mat. I'm surprised they are not available over there. Do you want me to watch for some on ebay and ship to you?

I'm noticing some foot swelling at the end of the day. I'm ultra paranoid after all of the swelling I had with ds. I've got one or two really busy weeks to go and then hoping I can slow down a bit.

jabberwocky · 01/10/2006 23:23

Oh, meant to add that I'm going to try the fleece thing this time around too. Ds was born in August so it really wasn't an issue with him.

jabberwocky · 01/10/2006 23:31

3rd post the link for the baby rug is the home page of the company, but they are just starting to sell on ebay under nzspringtime.

Gloria42 · 02/10/2006 09:05

Anyone know any good cold remedies? Feeling miserable today !

Elibean · 02/10/2006 09:18

No, but I can keep you company Gloria - have a non-stop cough (great for pregnant bladders ) and sore throat, and slept about four hours.

Should be a rule: 'no colds during pregnancy'

Hope you feel better soon.

Elibean · 02/10/2006 09:21

Lubella love, shopping for a first baby is FAR FAR worse than looking after one, I promise. I'll never forget the stress of choosing our first pushchair - I ended up leaving Mothercare in a panic with a small furry dog toy and not a clue what to do.

And even second time around, if I go baby shopping with my mother I end up buying a much needed cup of tea and nothing else

Gloria42 · 02/10/2006 09:59

Elibean, someone recommended boiling water with Root Ginger and Honey. That's working a bit for my sore throat (and doesn't taste TOO bad!)

Would be at home in bed except for two things 1. joiner is coming to refit hall today and 2. have to conduct interview for Maternity Cover!!!
Think will go home after interview...... even sawdust would be better than how i feel now!

jabberwocky · 02/10/2006 10:53

That sounds like my ginger tea recipe. Add a tea bag to it and the taste should improve

Loulou000 · 02/10/2006 11:22

My feet are permanently swollen now. The midwife just laughed and said that was normal, so I'm not too worried! But can't fit in any shoes.

We still don't have a good name list, AQ. Am hoping inspiration will strike when I see her little face. Oh can't wait!

Elibean · 02/10/2006 11:38

Ginger tea sounds good....

Loulou, no names here yet either: everyone keeps making suggestions, wilder and wilder

Think we're going to have to make a shortlist and see who she is when she gets here too...

accessorizequeen · 02/10/2006 12:41

Thanks for the offer, Jabber, I'll have to look & see whether we still have a playmat from last time that I can justify replacing, I haven't fished in the garage yet. Perhaps they're available in uk now, but have never seen them in shops. I have the tiny love mobile best thing I have bought ever, love it. The windchimes are fab too. Will look up the rug as I really do want one, so nice for a baby to snuggle on & keeps them happy! How's the Amby, has it arrived yet?
Cold here too, six weeks & counting (this is 3rd cold in pg), I've just given in now

lubella · 02/10/2006 12:52

Lubella love, shopping for a first baby is FAR FAR worse than looking after one, I promise.

Elibean this has made me feel so much better I could hug you! it really was a horrendous experience in future I will potter around by myself or order online, incidentally DH found out they did have what the assistant told us they "don't stock" and had to go back on Sunday to collect.

Elibean · 02/10/2006 13:34

Online is a good idea, thats what I've mostly done this time - far less stress, easier on the feet, and I can make my own cup of tea.

Hug sounds good, but you'd need long arms and a face mask, would hate to pass on this cough - already had to rush to the loo half way through lunch

SpaceZombie · 02/10/2006 13:47

dublindee- i havent heard from you for ages and wondered if you were ok!
glad to see that everything is progressing well

weirdbird · 02/10/2006 14:35

Cold Case - American Cop Drama where they re-investigate unsolved cases, tis produced by Jerry Bruckheimer who produces CSI, it can be very emotionally wringing as you know the people are already dead from the start and so although they may solve the case, theres no happy ending!

Last nights involved the death of a child, which when connected to "mothers love" type scenario, just sets me off....

Loulou000 · 02/10/2006 15:22

Free stuff! If anyone hasn't joined the boots parenting club yet, I recommend it. I just got my joiner's vouchers and ran off to boots to pick up free £16.50 item from no. 7, free botanics hair mask, and free body lotion from meditterranean pregnancy range. Plus lots of vouchers for extra points and stuff. At the risk of getting loads of spam later, I suppose, but still.

softymom · 02/10/2006 15:24

Weirdbird - that sounds awful. I'm off all news and anything rated over 12 now. Have also passed the country music threshold - I found myself sobbing at the end Dolly Parton's 'Down from Dover' the other day.

Sympathise with all of you with colds. We've just all had a terrible virus that wiped us out completely (sore throat, coughing, fever, vomiting, feeling like sh**te). If you have any chance to sleep - do it! It seemed to be the only thing that helped. And you can take paracetamol when pregnant!

Lubella - so stressfull doing your first shopping. We bought loads of stuff before dd was born but we didn't seem to have the right things after she arrived, so DH kept having to go out to the shops when I really wanted him home with me. Maybe we should start a list of 'our best 5 purchases' for the newbies?

Saw an obvious new dad walking in the park today - unshaven, tired looking, with v. tiny baby strapped to his front. Somewhere a new mum is getting some sleep!

31 weeks today
