Am I overthinking this or did she mean something by it? A colleague just asked if my clothes would last me until I left work. I said yes I think so and she then said to me 'you'll need some more tops though'. A bit confused as I have bought loads of maternity tops and sometimes don't wear the same one for another 2 weeks because I have so many so it seems a strange thing to say. I hate to think people think I look scruffy or something though. Any thoughts?

FatimaLovesBread · 04/09/2012 09:54

apple maybe she thinks you'll get loafs bigger and they won't stretch Confused
Has she got children?

horseylady · 04/09/2012 09:59

I would take it as you did. Seriously though someone said to me I needed longer tops (was in none maternity one!) but you couldn't see my belly just my trousers and the band over them.

With only 8 weeks to go people will have to put up with me looking as I do I'm afraid!! I don't want to buy much more if I can help it!

Not nice though and goes back to my previous moan about how bloody rude people are!!! Sadly I'm not catty enough to bother retaliating!! Bad mood though and they'd have a shock!!

Hugs though I'm sure you look lovely and less scruffy that me :)

applepieinthesky · 04/09/2012 10:09

Nearly all my tops are New Look or Next and they're all maternity ones. I really don't want to spend more money on clothes if I can help it. I've only got 5 weeks left at work.

Yes she has older children and I generally get on well with her but some comments she has made recently have made me think Hmm For example she has said a few times that the SMP I will get is 'good money for sitting at home doing nothing'. Are you kidding me? £135? That barely covers my rent and nothing else.

StuntNun · 04/09/2012 10:32

Tits I got a load of party bag stuff on eBay, something like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Boys-Girls-Party-Bag-Pinata-Fillers-Toys-Favours-/300451696769?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item45f4511081 only do a proper search as you may get cheaper stuff. Then I just padded them out with some crisps/sweets/balloons.

I'm not buying any more!! People will have to put up with it!!! Mine are next mainly and asda!! No one has commented money wise yet thankfully!! Will be ok though. Yes tough but ok. Am happy though have just bought lots of hay very very cheaply!!! That's save me £100!!! Sooooo happy!!

kirrinIsland · 04/09/2012 10:45

Sitting at home doing nothing?! It's clearly been a while since she had small children!

I've been wearing the same trousers to work for weeks (I only work 2 days though) and alternating between 3 tops - I refuse to buy more stuff now, especially for work!

ShellyBobbs · 04/09/2012 10:59

Detective I've been a veggie for 27 years and in the the whole of that time, even in the really crappy 80's when salad was the only veggie option, I have NEVER been offered fish as a veggie meal. I think either she or the venue is severely mistaken. I would ring the venue myself and if it is the only option, complain to them and refuse the meal, it is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard and if I was you I would be absolutely fuming as I actually am now. I'm always the one people are jealous of when at weddings, they all want my meal as it's usually by far the best Grin

Evil I've DTD 3 times since I found out I was preggers, twice in one night. I've told hubby he won't be getting it again until after Crimbo too. I've told him that he might have 'manly needs' but I'm growing a human and my body is doing far more important stuff. I've had NO urges at all since being pregnant so he quite looking forward to 2013 for personal reasons :)

Apple You should have asked her what she meant, she might just be thick. If she says anything about the money again just tell her it might be a lot for a lazy 'Jeremy Kyle' style mother, but not for you :) The cheeky bitch!

My boobs have been tremendous since I had and fed (for a year each) my first, second and third. No saggage and they went from A to C, and going to E during pregnancy and feeding.

Had a really good nights sleep last night and feel much better today. I'm dropping a sample at the doctors later, thanks everyone for your advise.

StuntNun · 04/09/2012 11:08

My Spectra 3 breastpump arrived today woot! Thanks for the recommendation sorry can't remember who it was. I can't wait to try it out but no boob leakage yet so I'll have to wait until November.

It was me stuntnun!! I hope you get on as well as I did with it! You can buy accessories for it easily, like collecting bottles and even a supposed 'comfort' shield but I was fine with the original as it was so fast!

applepieinthesky · 04/09/2012 11:23

Yes £135 a week would be lovely if I was entitled to housing benefit and tax credits but I won't get a penny on top of that.

ShellyBobbs · 04/09/2012 11:24

Well, you won't be surprised to know that I've just done a sample and it's as cloudy as can be. Can't believe that I actually advise people on UTI's and it didn't even enter my mind, I just thought it was a pregnancy thing. I think I'm going to stay on the sick this weekend as I just haven't the energy at the moment (even though I was off last week) but these double shifts are enough.

Just dropped my very excited eldest off at school after 7 weeks off, 2nd year seniors, I feel so old. The other 2 are in (primary) tomorrow, it's my son's final year there!

I've only put on 8lbs, but I was a bit lardy before so am pleased with that. I noticed last night how much weight I've actually lost during this pregnancy, I am hoping that I get back to what I actually should be after Christmas, I might not need Slimming World (as I planned) at all now. Thank you baby!

ValiumQueen · 04/09/2012 11:54

stunt don't use the pump until baby is born! However tempted you are. It sounds fab.

Well, this morning I took DH for his second 'home made' driving lesson. For the first one, last Thursday, we went to a supermarket car park, but it was a bit busy, and after 20 minutes of bunny hopping and bollard dodging I told him I could cope with no more. Today we went to a lovely little country lane, used mainly by walkers as it is a dead end, and it was great. Long enough to get into 4th gear and wide enough to avoid said walkers. He struggled initially with the gearbox and clutch biting point, and I did feel I'll on occasions, but after 30 minutes, I actually felt quite confident in his ability. Next time we will do the same for a while then venture onto the roads. The instructor has said he is ready for practice with me. I am not teaching him from scratch.

Update with nappies: having found my old stash of Fuzzis, I still like them best as they keep her bottom dry. The bamboo ones are great for overnight, but her skin is so wet she needs a proper wash down each time, plus they are bulkier. I have still yet to make my fleece liners that will hopefully help with this. I bought some special offer little lamb nappies which came with two microfibre inserts!! I now have plenty for both babies, so am well happy. I also bought more bamboo boosters as they take for ever to dry.

blonderthanred · 04/09/2012 13:01

Ooh I was looking at the Spectra pump, not sure if to get that or the Medela Swing or just go for the TT manual.

I am not leaking yet although have a little waxy film on my nips which I'm assuming is the beginnings of colostrum. I want to express before they induce/CS me at 38 weeks, mostly to have some stores for the baby but partly to see if I can pre-empt the induction. Any opinions on this as a good or terrible idea?

WaitingForMe · 04/09/2012 13:02

I've needed new clothes apple. Despite being maternity dresses my bump has made most too short to wear as dresses. One looks ok over leggings but a few others have since been rejected. One woman at pregnancy yoga last night was 33 weeks (4 weeks further on than me) but my bump was bigger. She was very neat whereas DH has asked whether I want a unicycle to rest under my bump!

I saw my accountant and am entitled to very little and we decided it's best not to go for anything and have complete flexibility over when I can do some work. An hour a day while DH looks after baby would make a huge difference to the business and make more money than maternity allowance.

£135 a week is laughable as a good wage. That's 80p an hour given that you're working 24/7. You'd only do it for love!

YellowWellies · 04/09/2012 13:05

Salmon is not a veggie option - so nope you're not being fussy. Does the bride understand however that you will be essentially full term and quite likely not to make the wedding? I imagine that a no show would annoy her more than ordering a special meal for you. Might be worth checking, as until close friends started having kids I had no concept of how many weeks pregnancy was so 39 weeks wouldn't have alarmed me.

As for DTD with my irritable uterus I've had to have pelvic rest for a fortnight which is a nightmare as we've been doing it 2-3 times a week all the way through the pregnancy until that point ... have told DH that as soon as we get to 30 weeks I'm def up for it again. Though to be fair pelvic rest has meant that I've not had half as many contractions as before. So maybe we'll have to keep an eye on things. Mindst to me, once baby is over 30 weeks they're 'big' compared to my niece the 27 weeker. Mean Mummy. It's not that I want to meet them now - but I'm a lot less scared than I was during the 2nd trimester.

Don't use breast pumps until the wee one has arrived! That's a great way to bring on prem labour!!!!!

Catbag · 04/09/2012 13:57

Been for a 30 wk scan today. I am pleased to announce that my babies are weighing in at 3lb 7oz and 3lb 10oz respectively and shall be henceforth known as the vikings! Honestly, they weigh more than an average singleton at this point. I'm just happy because my smallest twin last time weighed only 3lb 11oz when she was born at 35 wks, so that weight is a bit of a mental milestone for me.
If I can just get to the end of September, I'll be happy. But no further than mid-October, or I'll start grumping Grin

Catbag · 04/09/2012 14:09

Ooo, and the Chicco video monitor came today from Asda. Looks brill, although I may hide it for a week or two to save DH from money-spending-coronary-pain Grin

ValiumQueen · 04/09/2012 14:35

blonder why do they want you to deliver at 38 weeks? Expressing can bring on pre-term labour, and unless medically instructed, I would not do so. How about running the idea past your consultant? Although term is 37 weeks, it is better for baby to stay put until 39 weeks, due to breathing issues, unless there is a medical reason for delivering earlier. Many women continue to tandem feed during pregnancy, and you will not use up all the colostrum as that continues to be produced until 3 days post birth. I certainly wouldn't put a pump on my boobies unless they had been warmed up by baba.

DesperateHousewife21 · 04/09/2012 14:39

catbag glad to hear the babies weight is on track, they sound like they're doing v well.

I went to asda again today and got muslins and they had some plain black flip flops which is prob wear out as well reduced from £2 to 50p so they'll be going in my hospital bag!

Evilwater · 04/09/2012 14:39

I'm back from work, yay. It was fine, although morale seemed even lower.

Had some green mucos, when I wiped. So I'm waiting for a midwife to call back.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 04/09/2012 14:42

And breath....have got the keys to the rental house, toy car now in the garage so DH is happy now for the rest of it.......

Just so you know I am at work and he is managing the whole thing alone! Grin

FatimaLovesBread · 04/09/2012 15:10

so we shouldn't use ready pumps before? Hmm

daisychain76 · 04/09/2012 15:10

evil if they haven't already, they'll probably take a swab to check for infections, but it can just be normal for some people. DH you have beaten me - I thought I'd got the best deal possible with flip flops from Peacocks for 99p! (Only just discovered they do maternity clothes too).
