Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
acjfluff · 15/07/2012 21:22

Woohoo I felt the baby!!!!

Gave me a right old boot, no mistaking it for wind must've been protesting at mil to be wittering on about nothing

Very glad I felt something, I'll be less stressed at scan on Friday Smile

PrunellaDeVille · 15/07/2012 21:31

desperately trying to catch up...
all the cake talk's really starting to inspire corrupt me, even after a big take away curry.

can't remember who mentioned feeling their LO roll over and rear it's back up - a way back now so i can't find it, but thank you for mentioning it as it reminded me that exactly the same happened to me in the middle of the night and i'd gone back to sleep eventually and forgotten about it. I'd meant to tell DH first thing but now have done, he's really excited to hear of such obvious movement and is insisting if anything like that happens again soon i should wake him up but only the first few times before it starts to become old hat

maternity clothes - has anyone else encountered the opinions of people (who had their children in the 70s or earlier) who think a baby bump is something to be covered up with baggy clothes? i feel it's something to be proud of and can't wait for it to be obvious that i've not just piled on the pounds.
I've had one family friend refer to the wearing of tight jersey dresses as being 'aggresively pregnant' Shock, and just come back from my mother's where she'd had a clear out of her wardrobe and put aside for me a pile of hideous clothes that i could use 'to cover up the bump' - she's 6 sizes larger than me generally.
Felt i had to be polite in turning down DM's offers but i'm Shock at her demonstration of how little she knows me - i've always worked in the fashion industry, does she think suddenly i'm a different (ungrateful rantingBlush)person

rant over, sorry

hello to all the new xmas pudding bakers

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/07/2012 21:40

Yay for movements!!!

prunella that was me with baby shoving its back out, it's rather uncomfy but nice feeling the movements all the same!!

Got the kids to listen to tadpole thumping the 'listening device' Hmm earlier, they LOVED it!!! We're really excited, I'm so glad they're sharing in this pregnancy :)

Our council have changed our housing benefit so I'm gunna have to go back to work full time with no maternity leave (30 hr weeks) thankfully I work from home do it's do able. Just not preferable! Sad

itsMYNutella · 15/07/2012 21:41

Cakebump did you see my earlier post about all the freebies/samples/vouchers that are about for pregnant mummies & babies? If not PM me and I'll share my findings with you. Sorry to anyone not in Germany Blush funniest freebie so far, I think, is a Mozart CD!

Bubbless Shock how can you not like Nutella??? Do you have a chocolate or nut allergy? otherwise it is inexcusable

And yay for the good kicking acj :o

mwahmwah · 15/07/2012 21:42

Just mixed up the nutella cake mix, all ingredients available in my cupboards - shocker - then remembered the f@@@@@g microwave is broke and new one ordered from amazon on Thursday isn't here yet. Aaarrrrgggghhhh! Devastated Angry

Mummycox · 15/07/2012 21:56

Weejo have you tried 4head? Ive tried to avoid taking tablets and no matter how much water I drink, sometimes nothing shifts it but 4head and rest. Hope it goes soon.

Yay for movement! Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 16/07/2012 06:11

I don't like Nutella either Blush

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/07/2012 07:53

Morning all, I have worked out a pattern, if I'm sick first thing un the morning I will be sick all day, If I'm find in the morning I'll be ok all day! Lol I have a weird body!

Gotta take ds back to the docs today as he's finished his antibiotics but his ears are still leaking gunky stuff, pretty sure he's gunna need another lot of them!

You lot are weird for not liking nutella!!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/07/2012 08:05

Oh your poor ds hope the next lot if antibiotics work for him.

I don't like any nuts in any shape or form! apart from marzipan

PurplePidjin · 16/07/2012 08:10

Prunella, I've had the oppisite - lots of Mums of older teens+ who are Envy of me being able to walk into a shop and buy jeans! It's a real demonstration of how far feminism has come :)

OP posts:
Barbeasty · 16/07/2012 08:18

Prunella, my MIL hates tight fitting maternity clothes. She says it makes her feel that the baby is really vulnerable and someone will come along and punch it. Slightly odd!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/07/2012 08:26

barbeasty really?! Lol that's weird!!

spotty thankfully he's not in pain but if his ears are still leaking I'm assuming his ear drums are still perforated so not a good sign it doesn't smell too pretty either tbh

MyDaydream · 16/07/2012 09:07

Bubbless google for a Mamas and papas factory shop, there's one in my town but Im sure I've read there's one more south too.
Me and DP have been talking about maternity leave, he's happy for me to do what I want and I have my heart set going really early since I'm finding work so stressful. I'm working on convincing him to let me stay home for a while. Full time nursery and train travel is pretty much my wages, I'll actually be better on MA, which is great meaning I can take the maximum time off anyway.

HoneyMum21 · 16/07/2012 09:25

Having a stress this morning (for a change) as bump was doing lots of gymnastics ad could feel him loads end of last week and on Saturday but havent felt him at all yesterday or this morning. Is this normal?

clarella good luck at work

PrunellaDeVille · 16/07/2012 09:26

barbeasty Hmm v.odd
pidjin i never considered before that maternity clothing was such a feminist issue.
first i was surprised at how difficult it is to find stylish maternity clothes, especially on the high street.
from your comment i gather it's infinitely easier to do so now than it has been up until relatively recently
and the issues of propriety, delicacy and concern and pride/shame are fascinating.
i guess women's clothes are always an issue so i shouldn't be surprised but i'd never considered it before.

weejo hope the headache's been mended by a good night's sleep

hooray for all the movements

CODwidow · 16/07/2012 09:27

stacey that is also my pattern of sickness Blush I've found if I eat a piece of toast first thing i'm usually ok but anything else and it comes back up.

Well 2 weeks today til scan day and finding out although with 4 ds's already I'm sure it'll be another boy Grin

Got given a steriliser and my mum bought a Moses basket this weekend so her spare room is starting to look like a baby shop! Very exciting Smile

PrunellaDeVille · 16/07/2012 09:28

honey x post, my movements comment seems quite callous below your concern - i regularly have days on end of feeling no movement at all i don't think it's anything to be concerned about

HoneyMum21 · 16/07/2012 09:35

Thanks prunella

StrawberrytallCAKE · 16/07/2012 09:39

Honey I have had a couple of days like that, you could drink a cold or fizzy drink and then have a lie down, that's what my mw recommended last pg. I think at the moment they are small enough to be able to move to a place where you can't feel the kicks? Definitely call your mw if you are worried, they will probably send you to epu and find heartbeat to reassure you.

My mum used to be a bit freaked out by tight maternity clothes (not too tight as that's not attractive pregnant or not) but my sis has had 2 and as thus is my 2nd she now quite likes it. I think sometimes it's the shock of the difference between what was acceptable when she was pg and what is available now. God bless Isabella Oliver Grin.

HoneyMum21 · 16/07/2012 09:41

Thanks strawberry. I'll try the cold drink when I get home from work and can relax a bit.

PurplePidjin · 16/07/2012 09:44

Mums in the 70s wore home made smocks.

Mums in the 80s had a couple of catalogues, full of smocks. My mum wore my dad's jeans and was considered the height of suburban fashion

Mums in the 90s had smocks and leggings

Mums in the 00s got Next and M&S

Ok so there's very little and it's a bit rubbish, but it's pretty cool that we can walk into highstreet shops and purchase properly fitting clothes designed for a condition that, until 50/60 years ago, wasn't discussed in polite company.

OP posts:
PrunellaDeVille · 16/07/2012 09:57

did M&S once do maternity? i was told they don't do anything apart from bras these days. interesting that they used to.
i'm finding that local shops that did do maternity stuff are clearing their maternity sections - maybe only having them in larger stores and going online only, so trying on jeans to find the right ones has been tricky (as jeans shopping is at the best of times). but compared to the past we do seem quite lucky.
strawberry when i say tight i do mean isabella oliver style fitting jersey rather than anything less demure, i'm too old (over 30) to get away with too tight and clearly have my own rules of propriety hang ups when it comes to clothing issues

honey i find i feel more movements if i lie flat on my back

Bubbless · 16/07/2012 10:07

kate i dont mean to sound thick.. but why is the mw coming to your house?!?! will mine?! why?!
im 16 and a half weeks, and im only just in my maternity jeans, but i could survive in my normal ones :(

prunella i cant wait to wear tight tops to show off my bump and have it not look like fat however my FIL said the other day 'you wont be wearing tight tank tops will you? they look so.. tacky when your pregnant..'
i wasnt very impressed to say the least as yes.. i was!! (and still will)
i think its a generation thing that you should be in hiding until you have a baby and not an unsightly bump Confused

nutella im not sure why i dont like it! im not a fussy eater at all but i dont like nutella, or peanut butter.. but i love marmite! (no alergies.. they are just disgusting!)

i hate marzipan too..

daydream thank you! are the prices much different?

am i the only one who hasent worked out maternity leave / pay / how to claim etc yet?!

anyone competent.. we need a new threaddddddddddd soon [i get waay too excited about this face] [im not competent to make + link one face]

Bubbless · 16/07/2012 10:08

oh, and me and DP have been together for a year today, and he got me a promise ring the one i showed him, then emailed him the link too.. very happy Grin

hope everyones having a good morning!!

WeeJo08 · 16/07/2012 10:30

Feeling much better this morning! Yay! Thank you for your wee messages.

Mummycox I bought some 4head a few weeks ago & unfortunately I found the menthol really made my skin sting badly & get inflamed (I have quite sensitive skin!) - it also just made it really hot, which was sort of the opposite effect that I wanted!

Prunella "Aggressively pregnant"??! That's madness! I can't even figure out what it means! But I do have funny images of all of us running around in bump enhancing tops with Zorro style masks on, wielding our Dopplers and yelling "Listen to how aggressively my baby's heartbeat is beating! I dare you!" Okay, maybe I got a bit carried away with that one....Blush

Also, Prunella M&S still do some maternity clothes, but only online...here's the link: www.marksandspencer.com/Maternity-wear-Womens/b/43063030?extid=ps_ggl_WomenClothingMaternityBG_BGMaternityClothes&kwid=4167534277_Google+Adwords&ef_id=1aJOCf4kQwgAAEK3:20120716091354:s

Mydaydream Mamas and Papas factory store?? This sounds fab! Are there good reductions usually? I hope there is one down here (near London.)

Had a lovely listen last night to Shnarf's heartbeat. It was very low down on the left hand side - took DH ages to find it! It makes me smile just thinking about it Grin DH and I also had a good chat about what we might need to buy - made things seem more real! Quick question - does anyone have any recommendations on slings?
