36-week appointment today, with scan to check position, and baby is head down! Couldn't be sure whether or not engaged, though. Does anyone have any tips to make sure that she stays this way?..

justwantcheese · 24/05/2012 21:23

Kveta, the story about the bird reminds me of when a bird came into my house when I was pregnant with my daughter and someone said it means, that your child will have a birthmark. And she has a small one on her face. It's a rather odd superstition but wonders if it will come true this time :)

gwenniebee · 24/05/2012 22:23

Good evening everyone!

Just a very quick little post as it's past my bedtime ;) Has been a busy couple of days at work and at home so am pretty knackered... in fact, should the loud music from the neighbours continue much more they are going to experience the full fury of the pregnant woman scorned!

Hope everyone is not finding the heat too horrific. I am determined not to complain as would rather warm than cold! But secretly: Oh My Word!! It's toooo darn hot!!

Fan hope everything is well with you and your baby :)

Blondie you poor thing. It just sounds like about the worst situation to be in, nothing drastically wrong, nothing happening, just really, really uncomfortable and rather worrying. I really feel for you! Hope baby gets a jolly old wriggle on and puts you out of your misery!

I must go and have a cool shower and get to bed - tomorrow I am playing at being a Year 4 teacher again which will be funny as it's a few years since I did that. My year is going out on a trip and it was decided there was too much walking involved for a nearly eight months pregnant person... which I think is probably a good thing!

TheLittleMe · 25/05/2012 06:40

So, I had a MW appt yesterday. I have been having hideous hideous swollen feet (only one of them swollen, it is pitted oedema where if you press on my foot the indent stays for literally about 15 mins) and carpal tunnel, where my hands are so swollen in the night and morning that I am woken almost constantly as they have gone numb/pins and needles. I have always had blood pressure of around 110/60 throughout my whole pregnancy, but when MW checked it yesterday it was 116/91, which is quite a big jump for me. MW seemed slightly concerned, but retook it after 10 mins on my other arm and BP was 138/84 (again, big jump for me, but no high in terms of pre eclampsia). No protein in urine. Baby is 4/5 engaged (yippee no wonder I feel like I have a bowling ball in my foof!). However, when the MW listened into baby's heart, I couldn't help but think that at first it sounded much slower than usual. When I was induced with my son, he had massive heart decelerations, ie it went down to the 50s mark every so often. Whilst the decelerations I heard yesterday were NOWHERE near that bad, it just didn't sound 100% normal to me. It then picked up a bit, and MW said she was happy with the HB. MW said that I would now just be seen in 2 weeks for my 38 wk appointment as per usual. Am I wrong in wanting a bit more monitoring? Or should I just chillax and let the professional do her job??

CathFin · 25/05/2012 06:57

Little - could you book in to see your gp next week? Might be handy to have some reassurance - was quite nice to see mine, she actually asked about my birth plan!!!!
Either that or just pop up to the hospital for a quick check, they were really good when I went the other day.

At some point DD ended up in my bed last night - probably just the heat waking her, and DS had a strop before midnight which woke me up and I was sure I wouldn't get back to sleep but I did thankfully. The baby also did some funky moves in there last night - it gave a really large whack to my ribs at one point - painful and quite frankly weird, feel a bit bruised this morning!

Am in blether mode, also quite chuffed that lots of people are saying I havn't put weight on beside my huge bump - can't really tell if they are being kind but it does make me feel a bit more positive about my blimpiness at this point!

Gwennie - hope you have a better day today - at least you aren't having to go on a school trip!

Blondie - fingers crossed for you too, hope you don't have too much longer to wait!

PinkPanther27 · 25/05/2012 07:10

Hi little, i have this pitted oedema too, attractive isnt it. Cant fit into any footwear so housebound :(
Blood pressure wise- u can go to tesco pharmacy and get it tested for free, ive done this a couple of times. I would also make a gp appt.
Cathfin glad u managwd to get back to sleep. Our ds never sleeps in our bed as he seems to view it as another play are regardless of whether its 2am!
Slept ok last night but still so tired this morning i feel sick. Ds at nursery today so gonna have a nap.
Blondie hope you're feeling ok today.
Cant believe how much i got done weds, doubt today will be so productive Hmm

CathFin · 25/05/2012 07:39

Pink - the tiredness makes me feel sick too, hope I can get a rest while mine are at play school this morning too...

So, I bought DS a set of Thomas pants and a pair of sunglasses yesterday - he has done a thorough job of finding a safe place to hide them, I have no idea where they are! He seemed quite keen on the pants so maybe potty training isn't too far off....

Kveta · 25/05/2012 08:05

Little, I have the feeling a systolic reading that jumps by more than 15 is a risk of pre eclampsia. May be wrong, but I would call the labour ward or whatever the maternal assessment unit is called and ask for advice. Better than stressing about it at home anyway :)

TheLittleMe · 25/05/2012 08:19

Kveta thanks for the advice, have called the day assessment unit, and am going in tomorrow morning for a BP trace. Would rather be safe than sorry, my Mum had severe pre-eclampsia when pregnant with me and her horror stories have frightened me!
Does anyone else find it difficult to tell whether there is actually a problem or whether things are normal pregnancy symptoms?? I feel like a first timer!

Kveta · 25/05/2012 08:29

Little, I tend to call the assessment unit for advice a lot! Better to be on the safe side :) I think with your 2nd, although you've done it before, you also are more aware of potential problems!

Warlin · 25/05/2012 09:42

Morning all

Last day in work for me! Whoop whoop! Am being taken out for lunch and hoping to head home after that so can't wait. It's starting to feel very real now, I can't believe we are all so close :)

Had a lovely sleep last night but dreamt AGAIN about the baby being much older than it should be....maybe it's because I'm worrrying about the size. This one was a marginal improvement as he was about 1 (rather than the 5 year old I dream about before!) but we took him home and he bathed and put himself to bed!! And once again none of the clothes I have bought came close to fitting...I really hope these dreams don't mean anything!

TMI alert...I got up this morning so a trickly of fluid running down my leg...it was def just watery (I hadn't wet myself) but was paranoid it was my waters. I has stopped though, the weirdest thing. Could it just have been some amniotic fluid leaking? DH looked less than impressed when I told him Grin

Blondie hope something happens today for you and fan where are you...we want pics!!! Hope all went well and you are busy bonding with LO.

Enjoy the sun to all those not at work...though I'm finding it far too hot at the minute. Lots of ice lollies and rest. I'm stocked up on books to read (bought 3 from the author of call the midwife) so hoping to join the chill out club next week!

Dairy I will so be asking you all the breastfeeding questions once LO gets here!! I haven't really got a clue and I don't like the book I bought as it's obviously written by a stern "thou must breastfeed or be a bad mother" person which totally puts me off. I want to give it a go but not be made to fee like a failure if it doesn't work. None of us were breastfed and I don't think it's affected my IQ or made me an unhealthy person!!

justwantcheese · 25/05/2012 10:00

Warlin, do you think your waters have broken? As they don't need to be a big gush, can just be a trickle. Ooh you could be next how exciting!

Smallwonder · 25/05/2012 10:12

Good morning ladies,
Toffee and pecan swirl anyone? Yum Yum :)

DS discovered army of small ants in the conservatory that have started to make their way into the next room although only hovering in trail by the door that separates the room. Anyone know how I can rid these ants please? I'm assuming the heat is bringing them out? I am being provided with a running commentary of random ant movement from DS, free entertainment!

Warlin Very happy to hear that this is your last day :) I think i recall there being a leaving party in place? If so, enjoy yourself and look forward to the weekend ahead, lots or relaxing and take it easy time.
TheLittleMe Yeah, think that was the right thing to do, just puts your mind at rest doesn't it. This is my fourth and I'm still questioning minor niggles Hmm

I had around 3.5 hours sleep which is a first in ages, very happy about that! It makes such a difference to your morning, have already managed two loads of washing, hung out, seen to plumber, put grocery shopping away and a few odd jobs, needless to say, will be doing little else rest of the day, and certainly not in this heat! It is just too hot, am not enjoying it.

Hope everyone enjoys the day, with most of the 'jobs' out the way I plan to just relax, as much as you can when this uncomfy but still, Kayz do you have a growth scan today? 1000ff How are you doing? What's your latest? Bemybebe Hope all is well with you and the apartment isn't causing too much concern, cathfin Good to be in blether mode Grin I haven't gone out with or visited friends for ages, consequently I'd talk the hind legs of a donkey if one should wander through the house! My closest friend and I usually have a 45 minute chat as she drives home from work daily and only did i realise much later this week that she'd arrived home and was parked outside while I chatted for England :o 45 minutes obviously not enough!
Pinkpanther I know how you feel about being housebound, ever since the onset of SPD I've been mainly home or very, very local, not even making it to visit friends, we had our last meal on Easter weekend! Take it as a way of just resting I guess. I cannot wait to walk in the parks again with all my kids and enjoy the weather instead of moaning about it.

Well i've done a fair bit of chattering so will be off to raid the fridge do something constructive. See you all later

McKayz · 25/05/2012 10:32

Morning.

Just a quick post as I'm at my mums. I have got my growth scan at 1. Looking forward to seeing the baby.

Warlin I'd get checked out probably. Lots of people say that's how their waters feel when they go.

Hope you're all well!!

DairyNips · 25/05/2012 10:50

Warlin I would maybe get checked, sounds a bit like waters going slowly..

Oh the pressure of breastfeeding questionsGrin I'll do my best to answer although I have to say, just cause I'm a peer supporter I don't judge anyone on their feeding choices. I'm just fascinated by all the info and am happy if I manage to help ladies who want to breastfeed get the right infoSmile

Warlin · 25/05/2012 11:41

small blether away here...we will all listen!! Must be so frustrating for those with SPD. Not long now until you can have all 4 kids at the park!!

Do you really think a trickle of water could be my waters breaking?? I'm not having any contractions this morning and feel ok apart from that. I think I'll just keep an eye and if any contractions start will def get checked out. Praying my waters don't break and flood the place before I finish work Blush

Almost everything handed over and so excited about finally being on maternity leave. Shock starting to sink in how close we are all. I'm under strict instructions to bring the baby into work as soon as I'm over the shock of it all Grin

CathFin · 25/05/2012 11:43

Small Ants - we have the same prob, try boiling water on wherever the nest is if possible, but I have had to put powder down as it wasn't working and they were already taking over our kitchen!

DairyNips · 25/05/2012 12:00

Warlin it could be. They might have gone then babies head blocked any more coming out for a bit I baby has moved. Best to get checked as if they have gone there's a risk of infection.

ffnorm · 25/05/2012 12:04

Just popped on to catch up!

Warlin I presume you put on a pad this morning,if there is any more trickle I would go and have it checked out because if you are not contracting it doesn't mean it's not your water that have gone...if it is your waters then your baby is at increased risk of infection as it the the sac/fluid that protects it. it could,on the other hand, be an increased watery discharge Grin

Will pop back later

DairyNips · 25/05/2012 12:04

Btw, are any of is near Durham? I have a voucher I got Gor takin part in a '100 women in birth' project (just ha to answer questions on my pregnancies and labours). It's for a free Clarity or healing/relaxation session with a doula. Let me know if any of you are close enough to use it as I'm too far away!Smile

AmethystMoon · 25/05/2012 12:49

McKayz · 25/05/2012 13:40

Another quickie from me. On way home from hospital.
Baby weighs 7lb 3oz now. Everyone is happy for homebirth to go ahead. They've said she's long rather than big.

TeaandHobnobs · 25/05/2012 13:43

McKayz great news Grin

Just had a text from my schoolfriend, her baby arrived last night - 9lbs 15!!!!! Shock

And she is a small person too! I dread to think what it has been like carrying him the last few weeks!

justwantcheese · 25/05/2012 13:45

Great news Mckayz, glad you can get the birth you want.
