right have finally had a bit of a chance to catch up with all the chat.

waiting I just laughed my head off about the pickled onion - you girls on here crack me up!

apple omg! what on earth were they thinking with your puppy!!! Its like they have never seen a puppy before. What you are descibing about puppy sounds like most pupppies I have ever known. Mine is 3 now and was absolutely crazy for the first 18months to 2 years (still has his moments) I did try food changes, more excersise, castration but it was actually age that calmed him down in the end.

The castration thing though was hilarious, I'd been discussing it with DH and we were just saying 'we need to get his nuts chopped off' we never used the word castration. It got to the time when we decided to get him done and I called the vet without thinking about what I was going to say and couldn't remember the word castration. The receptionist answered the phone and I just started with ' Hi, Im just calling to try and book my dog in to have his....' then frantically tried not to say 'nuts chopped off' but had to go with it as I just couldn't think of anything else to say!!!! She politly said, 'so you want him castrated?' I was just so glad it was over the phone as I was going bright red!!!!

It is so lovely reading this thread at the moment - so much happy news, congrats all.

I am getting really confused about what I can and can't eat. I swear they have changed a lot of advice since I had my DS 8 years ago. From what I gather from the NHS site, you can eat cream cheese now, but I swear my MW then told me you could only eat one type of philadephia (and also no Mr Whippy ice cream). Also, I remember being warning not to eat pre-washed salad, but I can't find that on the list of foods not to eat now. Does anyone know if it is ok to eat? I am taking DCs to pizza hut tomorrow and really want to get a salad bowl, but worried that counts as pre-washed...

I know this might sound paranoid, but I am one of those people who prefers to follow every rule cos I would beat myself up so badly if I didn't and something went wrong!

My first pregnancy greed is this foot-long veggie delite sandwich from Subway that I'm having for lunch at 10.55 a.m. So bad but also quite healthy as it's all salad! To be fair I didn't have breakfast and this should keep me going until dinner. I did look at the doughnuts but didn't get one - I'll save it for the third trimester.

carrying on with the catch up.

Glad all the scans have been going well and so exciting that we are all starting to share our secret!

detective enjoy the scan tomorrow, that will be so great.
tits I hope you feel better.
everso glad the cvs went well, keep up updated.

On the birth partner aurgument. Good article find shel I agree with detective. I find with labourers that it really depends on the people. I have had some terrible experiences with mothers in the room - more so than partners. Women need to relax in labour and they can't with a mother saying how she's had 5 children without an epidural da da da!!! I've had mums on the phone discussing their own love lives while their daughters are trying to cope with labour! My personal opinion is that women need to discuss prior to labour who they want with them. I think that a lot of women bring their mum and partner, siblings or in laws etc in with them because they want to be at the birth when if you speak to the woman honestly she would say that she just wanted her partner there or she just wanted her mum there. That same really goes for those in the waiting room, if a woman has 15 people waiting outside that really doesn't help at all as they NEVER sit there quietly. You get a knock at the door every 15 - 30 mins asking 'how is at all going?' and when you are doing everything you can to make a woman feel relaxed and safe in an unknown environment it just contanstly sets everything back. We always tell everyone to go home but they never do! I won't tell anyone that I am in labour (if it goes that way)
I agree that I really like Michel Odents work and agree in part with his concepts but don't really agree with that article that it should relate to all men. I am currently trying to get dads more involved at my trust as I think we are way behind and it could really improve experiences. Opinions over!!!!!

You know you're pregnant when...

All you can think about eating is something you wouldn't normally eat & refuse to entertain anything else as a meal.

Last night, I needed tacos. I mean NEEDED. We bought them & I ate loads & felt so full it hurt (so horseylady totally agree with you there...) BUT it was great. So far, so normal.

Except I HATE tacos. I hate the faff, I hate the way they collapse on you, they barely contain anything in the first place & they go EVERYWHERE when you try to eat them, I hate getting my hands dirty when I eat. Generally, tacos, ribs etc are my Room 101 food. So you can imagine the look of Shock on DH's face when I a) asked for them & b) ate them without 1 word of complaint.

Sickness has returned again today, and vomited too, but had 3-4 days of relief so can't complain too much. Hmm

Lost count of all the lovely scan outcomes. Congrats to all.Grin Trying desperately to be patient & wait for mine but failing... Blush

Daisychain I think they say you should wash the pre-packed salad again as they can harbour bacteria. If the hygiene seems ok with the salad (I.e. is it kept cool enough, replaced often etc.) I can't imagine there would be much risk from eating the salad. They only have a lot of these rules as food poisoning is riskier for you/baby, although a couple of bacteria cause specific risks to the foetus. Don't think the salad one is the latter - think its a food poisoning thing. If that even begins to make sense!!! Confused

Waiting for my tuna melt made by DH followed by chocolate croisants yum Grin Had first major hormone meltdown last night after having an awful time getting DS2 to sleep. Work stress, overdoing it and tantrumming child all mounted up to floods of tears and a panic attack. Needed it tho as feel much better today. House a tip but just going to chill and be waited on. Old maternity jeans are a bit too roomy at the moment but so comfy.

Loving the scan news, really makes me smile. Congrats everyone Smile

Chunky I had a strange urge to eat fish yesterday. Now, anyone who knows me knows I have a severe fish phobia and the thought of being anywhere near fish let alone eating it causes major panic attacks in me! So WHAT THE FRIG WAS ALL THAT ABOUT?!! I didn't indulge though thank god!

Today I haven't been sick! I think it's because I've been doing the school run all week, so I get up very shortly after my alarm goes off, where as previous to that, and today, I've stayed in bed for an hour after waking up. So I don't have that blood pressure drop and the tiredness to go with it!

So we've made it out the house, and are sat in pizza hut now, which I don't really fancy but DS roped me in to coming! And then we are going swimming! Our first mummy and son day for a long time! He's currently raiding the salad buffett for me so I don't have to smell any dodgy smells Grin

We just told my stepsons. DSS1 is seven and just sat with a slow smile spreading across his face. Both of them say they're really happy. DH checked that DSS2 (aged 4) actually comprehended what we were saying and asked where there was a baby. "In Waiting's tummy" he shouted pointing.

I just started crying. I've been so worried about how they'd take it but DSS2 says he wants to be a big brother and DSS1 just keeps smiling to himself.

We're telling DHs parents and sister tomorrow and have asked the boys to tell them as it's all our news. The boys are looking forward to it.

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now. I couldn't have picked better brothers for my baby.

Just had booking in with midwife. She was lovely. But was shocked to realise my BMI has gone up from 22 to 26 since I got preggers! Eeeeek time to slow down on the 'eating stops me feeling sick' bus. Also got told not to have my one glass of wine every week or two - as there has been a spate of ADHD in the kids of the 'wine drinking classes' (I quote) and docs think there is a causal link. So am well and truly fecked off with the 'do not consume list'. Also told not to have blue cheese even if cooked. Arse arse arse..... She didn't use the doppler as at 11 weeks reckoned it's a cause of maternal stress if they can't find the heartbeat which I kinda understand, also we're having our dating scan on Wednesday so don't have long to wait to see the 'parasite'... (still a bit gutted though as would love to have heard the heartbeat too)

I'm so sooo tired, ds actually slept all night in his own bed for once but I feel more tired now!

The horrible rainy/ cold weather doesn't help, feels like ages still to my scan and I'm convinced there's something wrong even though my 'bump' is really obv now.

Report
Stuntnun · 28/04/2012 17:57

Yellow why not have blue cheese if cooked? My understanding is that there is a risk that soft cheeses may be contaminated with listeria which is killed by heating to 77°C. In my opinion your midwife is having a knee-jerk 'blue cheese bad' reaction without actually understanding the nature of the risks.

I would also be inclined to scoff at the alcohol = ADHD link. ADHD is a complex multi-factorial disease and you can't pin it down so easily. If you could tell me something that would prevent my DC3 from having ADHD I would do it like a shot but I seriously doubt that cutting my already very low intake of alcohol (probably not even two glasses of wine since finding out I was pregnant) will make one bit of difference. My DS1 has ADHD which I'm pretty sure resulted from a combination of genetic predisposition, my pre-natal depression and post-natal depression, a traumatising birth, failure to bond and failure to breastfeed. My DS2 doesn't have ADHD and the only issue he may have had would be a genetic predisposition. There's also a hefty element of pot luck.

I'd take the wine drinking think with a pinch of salt YW as most of the kids I've come across in my school with ADHD would be lucky if they're parents drank anything more than extra strong lager/cider... Plus I'm sure cooking cheese & stilton are considered ok on the NHS list. Have a look online. However, its hard to say as I'm sure some of the literature I got from my MW contradicts others.Confused

I know what you mean DH21. I still have so long until the scan & despite feeling more certain each day, & more pregnant, I won't totally relax until I've seen Grub for myself.

No opinions here Valium!! I go with the 'do what feels right for you' moto. Ie. Take all the advice you can, and understand why you have been given that advice - then do with it what you will! It is advice at the end of the day.

There are things I would advise my women not to do which I have done...Grin. To be fair, I have a terrible case of baby brain, and seem to have forgotten most of the advice anyway. I know I don't eat/drink the majority of the 'banned substances' lol! So I kinda forget the odd one or two that I might... like the runny fried egg I am planning for my tea tonight! I also forgot about Mr Whippy Blush

Had a lovely time swimming with DS, apart from other peoples kids, who got right on my nerves! I was exhausted after though, even though I probably only swam 4 lengths! Am now in default postion - lay flat on the sofa! Soooooo tired, will be an early night for me after Britains Got Talent tonight! I am worried about work on Wednesday - I am going to be utterly wiped out if I'm like this after a relatively relaxing day!

Oh, and I am officially in the 2nd Trimester now! Don't feel any different though :( Still nauseous and tired (although less tired than I was - I was tired when I wasn't even doing anything a week or two ago!)

I bought two baby grows in Tesco today - white ones with I love mummy, and I love daddy on them. I couldn't resist! I also bought a massive chocolate cake filled with cream! Even though I've not been eating chocolate, I saw it and wanted it NOW!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends! This is my last weekend off for the next 7 weeks minimum!

I think a lot of the alcohol ban stems from the fact so many people struggle to be moderate. I find it easier to not drink than to only have one. Not know of course, alcohol repulses me.

Boo to working weekends, I'm on a double shift next weekend so don't see my family at all :(

Interesting opinions on the article I posted. I have to say I did actually laugh through most of it and read out all the 'poor little men can't handle it' quotes to my hubby. I only have my own experience to draw from so that's why I posted it, it's pretty much what I thought, if you're relaxed with your birth partner then that's all that matters.

I've eaten chocolate today! I saw some Double Deckers in Tesco's and just had to eat them, HAD to, absolutely delicious. And an absolutely brilliant find, I've been drinking massive amounts of fizzy water lately, Tesco's own brand Orange and Passion Fruit is to DIE FOR, especially if the tangerine thing is going on.

My 6 maternity tops came today, lovely and I tried some of my ebay pants on and they are actually like pajama bottoms, so comfy.
