Great that it's finally come through babybrain Smile

No news here unfortunately, but at least we've got sunshine here today. We've also emptied baby's bedroom and started to build the wardrobe. But then DS woke up so it's half built for now Smile But even that only gave me cramp in my leg - not even any Braxton Hicks Hmm At this rate I'll be giving birth to a teenager Grin

ghosteditor · 26/03/2012 08:39

Just checking in - no luck yet davina? Fx your baby gets moving soon!

Well, the weather has been beautiful here - who would have thought that I'd need suncream for the baby in March? Grin

No luck yet ghost Just sat in the ante natal day unit, awaiting my first lot of monitoring. Hoping to be done fairly soon though, so DS & I can enjoy the rest of the sunshine today Smile

Kayzr · 26/03/2012 10:12

Morning.

Hope the monitoring goes well Davina

I fell and twisted my ankle yesterday. I can't put much weight on it and getting up and down the stairs is very hard Sad

But on a good note MIL2Be ordered our pram this morning. Plus my GTT test is normal!!! Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 10:18

Sad kayzr you poor thing! That's bad timing, I hope you're able to get lots of rest?
Good luck today davina!
ghost I was wondering about sun cream, when do you put it on babies? How hot/clear should it be? Blush

Davinaaddict · 26/03/2012 13:13

Sorry about the ankle Kayzr Sad Good news on the pram and the GTT though Smile

Monitoring is all fine but we were in there for 2.5 hours Shock Back again on Wednesday so I've told DH there's no need for him to come too. I can always ring him if he needs to come home early. Plus it means DS can go to crèche as well, and see all his buddies Grin

I'm just trying to get DS to eat some lunch before nap time but he's not really having any of it. I'm quite surprised as he's spent the last hour telling me that he's hungry Hmm He is knackered now though, so that won't really be helping! I wish he would hurry up, so I can go and sit in the sun Grin

Davinaaddict · 26/03/2012 13:21

I always put sun cream on DS when we were going out in the sun, unless he was completely covered or would be out less than 10 minutes. But it was always in the bag just in case things changed when we went out. Once he was toddling, I let him run round for 10 minutes before putting cream on, so he gets some exposure to it and doesn't end up with a vit D deficiency. He's not burned when I've done this.

He's a red head so has sensitive skin as well. I found was it was really easy to see if he started to burn - we walked to Asda one day (10 minutes walk away), and it was cloudy so we didn't bother with cream. The sun was out when we came out and he burned his cheeks a little bit on the way home Blush I felt soooo bad Sad I think he was only a few months old at that point.

Davinaaddict · 26/03/2012 14:41

Ah this is the life! DS napping, so sat in the garden. Shorts-check, suncream-check, sunglasses-check, iPhone for tunes-check, chilled bottle of J2O-check!

Let's hope that chilling out makes the baby get a wriggle on, as keeping active and busy clearly isn't working Grin Hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather too.

ghosteditor · 26/03/2012 15:12

Oh dear davina. Well, at least you've had some sunshine! I bet the monitoring will be tedious but at least it's only for another few days...

trouble it was 20 degrees here over the weekend; definitely hot enough for suncream, esp as it's not like DD has had a chance to build up a tan over a mild spring - straight in at the deep end! We all have olivey skin so she shouldn't burn too badly in future but it's important to keep her covered up. The factor 50 stuff is yucky and slimy though - I'd rather use a hat than smother her hair in suncream Smile.

ghosteditor · 26/03/2012 15:14

Oh and sorry to hear about your ankle kayzr - hope it heals fast. I did the same at 38 weeks - all that extra weight.

OP posts:
TroubleAndFyfe · 26/03/2012 17:11

I was worried about the sun cream getting in his eyes, not that it's not been hot enough! I tan easily so don't really think about it but think Fyfe may be a redhead like your son davina so need to be extra careful I guess! I say think as his hair is brown in some lights, blonde in others and red in the sunshine Confused

MammaInTheMaking · 27/03/2012 11:30

I have a question about places for baby to sleep... would you mind giving me a bit of advice on what I need to get?

We have a cot which will go in the nursery and the pram will have a carry cot attachment. But for the first few months I was under the impression baby will sleep in a moses basket/crib next to our bed. Could you tell me what you're all doing? During the day where does baby sleep?

I'm not too keen on co-sleeping. Or should i say i'd like to have everything prepared so that if i'm not comfortable doing it then it's not a problem because baby will have someone else to sleep...

TroubleAndFyfe · 27/03/2012 11:52

Hi mamma! At night we mainly co sleep but have a moses basket by the side of the bed that I can put him in if I want. In the mornings I take the Moses basket downstairs, he sleeps in it during the day as well as sleeping on me or in a sling depending on what we're doing. Smile

ghosteditor · 27/03/2012 12:23

Hi mamma! I recall being very confused about this too, but we have a solution we're happy with now.

DD has a cot in her own room, which we use for long afternoon naps and when we put her down to sleep between 7-9pm. In the day time we have a bassinet from a pram which lives on a rocking stand in the living room. We're using this less and less now as she also has a play mat and a chair swing downstairs.

When we go to bed, I bring her from her own room to sleep in her bednest (we co-sleep a lot too).

Grin so we have a lot of choice! I'd say something downstairs is invaluable, and you need something in your room; the closer to your bed, the better!

OP posts:
aBundanceOfTime · 27/03/2012 13:30

Hi ladies! Mamma Lilly was co sleeping for the first 6 weeks but we put her in her bedside cot now that she's more settled (and wriggly!) - I agree with Ghost, the closer the better when it's 4am! Smile During the day it varies between in her swing chair, bouncy chair, the sling, my arms, the pram or her cot - whatever's closest! Grin

Trouble I tend to put sun cream on when the sun's strong enough for sunglasses/no coat etc and when they're babies I make sure they're in the shade as much as poss. I got caught out with DS last summer and he got a bit burned on his cheeks, the guilt is awful isn't it Davina!

Well not such a great day today - I broke my toe!! Bringing shopping in and stubbed my little toe on the coffee table! I've broken two toes in the last year after never having broke any bones before that Hmm Such exciting ways too, coffee table and opening the front door (to the postman who thought I was nuts) on it Blush
Bloody hell it hurts though. Phoned NHS direct and they conformed my thoughts that there's no point in going to hospital as they'll only strap it up and advise pain killers which I can do myself anyway.
Toddler + 2mo + broken toe = nightmare!

Davinaaddict · 27/03/2012 15:02

Hi Mamma DH was really against co-sleeping as well, just because he's quite a heavy sleeper and was terrified of rolling onto DS. Or, even worse, waking up and not being able to find him! I didn't mind either way, although I did fall asleep mid feed a few times during the night.

He mostly slept in his Moses basket both day and night, although we always made a point of having a clear different routine so he could tell the difference. So, downstairs during the day, no special effort to let him sleep (not being especially quiet, or closing curtains etc). At night, we always followed the same bedtime routine (although the timing varied depending on when he was tired), and always kept night waking to a quiet, dark environment. All the basic stuff really Smile We did find though, that he got into the routine fairly quickly and I like to think that we helped that by being consistent and not that we were just really lucky with our PFB Grin

Try not to worry about it too much, as you'll find the right solution for you once baby arrives (although I completely get that you want to be as organised as possible) Smile Oh and once he outgrew his basket (about 4.5 months) we transferred him to his cot bed which had to be in his room due to size. But again he was fine as the routines were exactly the same, just a different bed.

Ouch bun! Crazy lady - hope its not too painful SadSmile

So just to update you on life in Davina-land, no great progress unfortunately. But (TMI alert), have just been to the loo and I'm positive I've just lost my plug Grin It was definitely jelly, not discharge, so hopefully things will move quickly now! I had a lovely couple of hours in the sun yesterday and this morning, but had to come in for a bounce on the gym ball because I was burning, despite 2 lots of sun cream - the joys of being a redhead Grin Have been having the odd BH today too - fingers crossed baby decides to come now. I've made lunch plans for after the monitoring tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have to cancel Grin And the sun is clearly getting to me as I'm rambling now Grin Will update if I have more news!

MammaInTheMaking · 27/03/2012 15:47

Davina that's SO exciting!!! Please come along little baby!!!!! Don't keep us waiting any longer! Can you imagine after all this you go into labour naturally. Wonderful!!!!!!! :o:o

Thanks so much for all the sleeping advice. DP is very nervous about co-sleeping. I'm quite worried although I reckon I'd get the hang of it. We'll have to see. So from your fabulous insight I think we'll just buy a moses basket and stand so it can go upstairs and downstairs. Great, that's my mind made up :o

THANK YOU!!! x

Kayzr · 27/03/2012 16:19

Come on baby Davina!!!! Grin

Mamma I am planning to have the cot in our room to use. I'll probably be using moses basket downstairs or the pram. I don't mind co-sleeping but DP is a very heavy sleeper and also I am worried about co-sleeping when he is away and it is just me and baby.

I bought the car seat today. Babies R Us have a sale on and we got the britax seat that fits onto the pram for £80 instead of £130. Very happy with that!!!

ghosteditor · 27/03/2012 16:36

Woooo go baby Davina! GrinGrine

OP posts:
TroubleAndFyfe · 27/03/2012 18:16

Go baby davina! Grin
mamma, I ought to have said too, neither DH or I planned on co sleeping as both are very heavy sleepers, however, Fyfe did not want to sleep alone in the early weeks so had to co sleep plus since having him I'm now a pretty light sleeper! I have him on my side (rather than between me and DH) between me and the Moses basket so he can't fall out. He now will sleep in the basket but I miss the cuddles so mostly keep him cuddled up to me! Grin

Davinaaddict · 27/03/2012 22:25

So, no real 'this is definitely labour' signs yet but LOTS of tightenings and painful BH/contractions Grin I'm not convinced this is yet, but it's definitely going the right way, I think! Either that, or my hypochondriac side is coming out again Grin So am just off to bed to either a) see if it calms back down again or b) to get some rest before I go into labour finally! Will be back with more news as and when I have some - night, night!

aBundanceOfTime · 27/03/2012 23:03

Yay! Sounds very promising! Fingers crossed for you Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 27/03/2012 23:28

Davinaaddict · 28/03/2012 05:34

Well, just woke up for my nightly trip to the loo and nothing yet Confused Still hopeful that things are progressing though (albeit very slowly!). I'm back at the hospital for monitoring today, so we'll see how that goes. We need a Friday baby anyway as DH, DS & I are all Friday babies Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 28/03/2012 06:41

You should've just said you were having it on Friday davina! That's okay, we can wait! Wink
