Join us as we head out of the secretive, scary, slightly sicky first trimester and into the bump emerging, supposedly blossoming, energy boosting second trimester.

12 weeks tomorrow!!! I think. Still not sure on dates.

Have been actin really paranoid and asking DH if he thinks the baby is living. I didn't feel like this with DD before her scan. I was excited, this time I'm scared. Feel like a fool. I blame it on not having had my booking in appointment yet.

Uglymush · 02/10/2011 21:20

SurprisEs the paranoia is normal, but try not to let it take over (easier said than do). Do you still have the usual symptoms? I am sure all will be fine. Try to relax and look forward to your scan

SurprisEs · 02/10/2011 21:33

The symptoms are pretty much close to gone. But I still have sore nipples and sometimes feel nauseous in the evening/night. Just can't wait for the scan to be over and done with.

Uglymush · 02/10/2011 21:47

Sickness could be subsiding by now if you are 12 weeks, mine went about then. When I was worried having sore nipples/boobs was the one thing my MW was very positive about. I know what you mean about wanting the scan to be over with.

LaTristesse · 02/10/2011 22:09

Woo, 2nd trimester... Bring on the blossoming, I still feel like crap!

SurprisEs · 02/10/2011 22:38

Thanks Uglymush, it is reassuring to read your post.

With DD I was sick for so long that even though it was a struggle it made me feel like everything was as it's supposed to be. Silly.

I haven't bought any baby stuff yet. Waiting for the baby show at the end of this month. Really excited about that.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 02/10/2011 23:06

It is supposed to be better with #2 though SurprisEs (so I've been told Envy ...)

I've been dying all day. So bad that DH stayed up with DS and I stayed in bed and now hes not in work tonight. Got up this morning and fainted so went back to bed til 3!
Remember being ill with DS though and being told it was just a virus so not panicking... Hospital already have my bloods from when I had my scan so theres nothing more I could do anyway, dont have a temp and BP and urine were fine Thursday...

spannermary · 03/10/2011 00:08

What a lovely shiny new thread...I can't wait to bloom! I'm 13 weeks today so can't be long, can it? I'm just hoping to stop losing weight, start keeping some food down and stop feeling dizzy everytime I stand up. Oh - and some stamina would be good too...work will forget who I am: third week off starts tomorrow.

Bring on the second trimester - I think I'm going to like you...

BTW finally announced on FB today. Very exciting...

Thaleia · 03/10/2011 10:26

I still have some time before the 2nd trimester starts ... only 10 + 2 today. Had a lovely, healthy-appetite, sunny weekend, feel awful again today.

Sorry - but could someone please help me out here:
I've got 2 letters, one for my scan (13.10.) and one to meet the T ELM team and midwives (19.10.) - is that the booking appointment?

SurprisEs · 03/10/2011 10:36

Hi everybody!

It must be the booking in appointment, Thaleia. my letter says something about 45 minutes to an hour, does yours?

I'm feeling a bit more positive today. Must have been the hormones yesterday.

I have such a busy day tomorrow. Job interview first, scan after and job seeker's appointment after day. DH has the day off and it's DD last day at nursery, so should be ok.

Really not confident about the job interview. Not sure how to approach the fact that I'm pregnant but the assistant at Job Centre said I should. How does she expect me to get a job then?

AprilAl · 03/10/2011 10:49

Woohoo new thread!

I definitely feel less tired the last few days than I have been (I'm 13+2 today). I wondered if it was psychological, because I know I'm supposed to feel better. Decided to test it out and went out canoeing at the weekend. Managed ten miles with no ill effects other than feeling a bit more tired than usual when I got back. A couple of weeks ago I would regularly have to take a nap after walking to the local shops. Result!

I'm still getting occasional bouts of nausea, but they seem fewer and farther between, so I'm looking forward to being a lot more productive over the next few weeks than I have been (and hopefully putting on weight at a more reasonable rate - I've put on far too much already by eating all the pies while simultaneously being so inactive)

Still got skin like a teenager though (in fact I never had skin even nearly as bad as this when I was a teenager) so I wouldn't say I'm exactly blooming - I live in hope though Wink

Thaleia yes I'm guessing that's your booking appointment if it'll be the first time you'll see the MWs, though it's a bit strange to have that after your scan. Is it worth ringing the MW to check?

AprilAl · 03/10/2011 10:50

Good luck with the jopb interview SurprisEs!

AprilAl · 03/10/2011 10:51

and the job interview too Wink

SurprisEs · 03/10/2011 10:55

Thanks AprilAl, sounds a bit up myself but I know it's the type of job I'd definitly get if I wasn't pregnant. I'm always confident in interviews and I've done similar jobs before. But I dunno about this time... I'm going to go in there all positive and smiles though. Not for a minute do I want them to realise I'm feeling insecure.

My booking in is a week after my scan. I thought it was weird too.

Bearcrumble · 03/10/2011 12:27

I'm 12 weeks exactly today too, SurprisEs. Good luck with the job interview.

Great news for all those who've had their 12 week scans so far - I'm really pleased for you all.

My sickness had almost gone since last Tuesday/Wednesday but I had a bit this morning, I think because I didn't have breakfast soon enough. My DS woke me up at 6.10, I bought him into bed with me and he grabbed my glass of water off the bedside and tipped it all over my head. Not the best start to the day so I was wobbling around dazed (and a bit angry) and just bundled downstairs and lay on the sofa watching last night's X Factor and forgetting to eat. So I started heaving and then I felt even less like eating so it was a bit of a vicious circle. Better now (and full tum). Nipples still sore.

Did you all enjoy good weather this weekend? It was lovely here in London.

Has anyone had a listen in with a home doppler?

kat2504 · 03/10/2011 12:47

yaaaaay!! I have had my 12 week scan. The baby was very wriggly and none too keen on being measured but all is looking fine and i have breathed a massive sigh of relief!

SurprisEs · 03/10/2011 12:58

Not a good start to your day Bearcrumble, glad it turn around!

I didn't really take advantage of the weather. I have no money until next Friday and haven't got a garden. Took DD to the park but it's a very basic park more suited for 4year olds onwards so she soon got bored. I'm hopig to take her to London next week and visit some sort of museum or maybe the aquarium. Providing enough pennies are left after bills. Pretty sure we'll be going though. If the weather is still good I mighttake her to a zoo instead. Heard we have another 2 weeks or so of good weather. Anyone else heard the same?

Kat I'm really pleased for you. Active baby = healthy baby, or so I say!

spannermary · 03/10/2011 14:18

Hi, all. Just back from doc - officially diagnosed with hyperemesis, and signed off for 2 more weeks. Ah well, it is what it is.

Got a letter fro my Grandparents today, including a clipping about Fanny Bankers-Koen who ran the 200m in the Olympics whilst pregnant. They thought it would 'inspire' me. They keep going on about how important it is that I stay active. Very demoralising - and adding to my guilt as I am essentially shifting from duvet in lounge (onto House disc 3 now!) and my bed. Also, complete rest and hydration is recommended for hyperemesis!

I need to stop taking these things to heart...

SurprisEs · 03/10/2011 14:26

Rest and look after yourself and try not to take comments personally. They probably think they are helping in some way. Don't forget honesty is key, and if you can't cope then tell them the effect their "encouragement" is having on you.

spannermary · 03/10/2011 14:33

Thanks, SurprisEs...they're lovely - but offer unasked-for advice rather too freely...and their opinions have been developed over 83 years and aren't about to change...

Thanks for the support!

SurprisEs · 03/10/2011 14:39

You also have to remember that 60 odd years ago ante natal care was poor and women were left to deal with it and get on, so they probably assume that's how things should be now and that this generation of mums are a bit precious. They probably mean nothing by it.

Have you joined the support thread on the matter? I've seen one around.

Bearcrumble · 03/10/2011 14:44

Fabulous news Kat - what a relief.

Twittle · 03/10/2011 14:52

HI everyone, glad to hear about all of the successful scans that are happening! I haven't got mine for a another week and a half, time really seems to be dragging. I Have decided to tell people after the 12 week scan (if everything is ok) even though we won't have had blood results back from the Nuchal, don't think I can get away with it for much longer..... hate feeling pressured to tell people although looking forward to people knowing as well... if that makes sense!

Beyond you have a bright one year old, my DS is 14months and I hadn't even considered explaining that mummy has a baby in her tummy as I didn't think he would have a clue what I was on about and he is more likely to bite my tummy than kiss it!!!! Blush

SpannerM really hope that your sickness starts to get better soon, sounds like you have had a really rough time of it! I don't think I appreciate how lucky I have been just to feel knackered and nauseous but not actually to be sick/bed/sofa bound.

A quick question as well... my midwife mentioned about the flu/swine flu vaccine and that as I am pregnant I should have it. Just wanted to know what others though about this, is anyone going to have it, do you think it is safe?? etc etc!

Mackrelmint · 03/10/2011 15:01

woo - thread two!

I only really get a chance to mn when I'm at work (mon-weds) so a lot of catching up for me to do on mondays! glad to hear about more scans going well.

I don't have a scan date yet but booking in tomorrow (at about 11 weeks). The letter said to allow 3 hours! They must mean waiting in the waiting room because the actual appointment can't possibly be that long.

Good luck with the job interview SurprisEs! It's tough to know what to do in terms of telling people - I think I'd err on the side of not mentioning it until you get an offer. I know the employer might be a bit pissed off but I wouldn't want to risk being discriminated against because of being pregnant.

I've resolved to start looking for new jobs before I come back to work with the aim of leaving here within 3 months after I come back (I only have to come back and work for a month to avoid paying back my maternity pay). Have had a quick look today and there seem to be a few possible looking part-time finance positions so I think it will be possible. Really I'd like to re-train and do something self-employed, but I think that's unlikely whilst on maternity leave with 2 DCs!!!

Oh, also, I meant to apologise to UniPsychle for making her queasy with my username! I am never witty enough to think up a funny name so tend to fall back on Moomin or Pippi Longstocking references - Mackrelmint is one of PL's middle names... Now the quease factor has been pointed out to me though, I am getting it a bit myself and thinking I need a namechange!

Anyway, enough wittering on...

Sugar26 · 03/10/2011 15:07

I'm 14 weeks on Wednesday and sickness and tiredness is easing off. Tolerance however is at an all time low :( I find myself snapping at work and have turned into old moaner :(

Hope that you are all feeling a little better x
