aaaargh, don't mention bloody ginger!!! :o :o :o it was all people said to me last time round when I was suffering!! :o I found sucking lemon sweets helped, but what helped most of all was eating very little, but often - so a slice of toast here, a small baked potato there - basically, carbs, and frequently!!

my boobs are still excruciating, so hoping this is a good sign. I bumped into a friend whose DS is a few weeks younger than mine today, and she had her newborn with her - her 10lb 8oz newborn!!! she looks amazing for having had such an enormous baby recently!! my DS was 9lbs at 41 weeks, so hoping this one is a bit smaller or earlier!!

vix1980 · 14/10/2011 14:34

Congratulations florinon your bfp!!

Can i ask all the second/third time mums, im new at all this,im only 5 weeks in yet already excited (and baffled) at all the things i need to buy, was looking at baby bump things before in mothercare - are they any good? do i really need 1?

What things do i really need to get ( i know about baby things, but mean things for me to survive the next few months) what couldnt you live without, and finally can anyone recommend a good stretch mark cream/oil as thats something i can start doing now, i feel a bit helpless really, dont have any symptoms apart from aching boobs, yet its all i can think about, if i can take my mind of it by concentrating on other things and just get through the next few weeks at least it would be perfect!

Kayzr · 14/10/2011 14:43

Vix a really really comfy pair of jeans. I live in jeans normally and I couldn't stand those trousers with the bump band on so I spent ages looking for comfy jeans.

millyv · 14/10/2011 14:52

A friend of mine kept getting told that her baby would be really big - in all fairness her bump was massive, she ended up having an 8lb 11oz baby as soon as she found out she was pregnant she started using bio oil and she hasn't got 1 stretch mark at the moment. Although it's expensive I think I shall be going out to buy some this weekend!

Does anyone have any good tips on what a good book is to get? I've been on amazon and there seem to be hundreds to chose from but I'm not sure what the best is? I'm looking for something that is informative (I'm a bit of a stat so love to know the details of what is happening) but don't want it to be patronising (some reviewer mentioned this) and maybe a few jokes to perk me up along the way - I understand I may not be able to get all of this in 1 book but maybe 1 medical 'bible' and one lighter hearted one? Any suggestions welcome! :)

Xx

millyv · 14/10/2011 14:52

Kveta sorry to mention the ginger thing - good tips with the sweets and carbs! xx

Kayzr · 14/10/2011 14:57

Millyv I have pregnancy for dummies and the mumsnet guide to pregnancy. Both of them are really good and I love reading them. The mumsnet one is hilarious and informative.

Kveta I'm sorry to mention it too but Ginger beer and Ginger biscuits are the only things that seem to kerb my sickness at the minute. Or those large snack a jacks. I read that peppermint tea is meant to be good too but mint flavoured stuff makes me worse.

Miniangel · 14/10/2011 16:02

Congratulations Florin. I have been on clomid too and can totally relate. You must be sooo happy and excited.

Millyv Thanks for the Bio oil tip. I have been looking for a good strech mark cream/oil.

Can I ask the 2nd/3rd time Mums when can we start pregnancy yoga and how is it?

birdofthenorth · 14/10/2011 16:05

Florin congrats! The cramps are perfectly normal, I had them for about 3 weeks with DD1 and they're starting again now... I think it's your uterus stretching Blush

About big babies -DD1 was 9lb 6oz. Had no stretchmarks at all until she was a few days overdue, when they started to appear, by 10 days overdue when she finally arrived they were purple and enormous Angry

StarlightMcKenzie · 14/10/2011 17:02

If I had money to spend (which I don't Sad) I would get something from here www.pregnancypillow.co.uk/ for comfortable sleep and later breastfeeding.

I also covet one of these, but won't be buying as can't afford: Glider chairs

Lots of people swear by bio oil but I didn't find it did anything and I think the evidence generally is poor.

I would recommend later getting a gym ball to sit on to watch television etc. as it helps your posture for your spine and the baby's position and opens your pelvis in the late days.

www.amazon.co.uk/Rough-Guide-Pregnancy-Birth/dp/1858287650

This is a fairly good light hearted book.

In terms of the more medical ones, I'm afraid I have never found one that suited me. They seem to be written by medics with the woman as a kind of 'object'. The intermediate ones are really patronising with sections on how to do your pregnancy make up or picture of a 'healthy meal'.

Starlight I bought a second hand glider chair off eBay when DD moved to her own room but was still feeding in the night and I LOVE it. SO wish we'd had it from birth! As well as being comfy and supportive for breastfeeding it's now great for DH/ MIL etc to use to settle her by rocking when I'm out. Might eBay another one for downstairs with this baby!!

biglips · 14/10/2011 17:26

i had a glider chair with a glider stool and it was heaven!! not got it anymore [hsad]

starlight.....i do remember seeing your name from the sept 08 list, def not nov 06 [hgrin], as my dd1 is a oct 04 baby.

im totally wiped out at this mo cos ive had my tea. but i become starving again later, have a sandwich or an apple and im full again!

soooo cant wait for my sense of smell goes back to normal as i can smell everything esp traffic fumes, that makes my tummy turn! never had this with my other 2 and i was told once that sucking on fresh lemon that been kept in your fridge is good for morning sickness. Just need to suck it once or twice.

Kayzr · 14/10/2011 17:26

On big babies DS2 was 10lb 5oz. I'd quite like a bit of a smaller baby this time.

StarlightMcKenzie · 14/10/2011 17:30

Opps Biglips, I 'meant' Sept 08, but was getting my children mixed up Grin Blush

biglips · 14/10/2011 17:33

starlight i thought i had a child missing somewhere [hgrin]

dd1 was 9lb 1 and was 12 days late
dd2 was 9lb 3 and a half and was 9 days late

im praying that i dont have a bigger baby next!! but what can you do!

biglips · 14/10/2011 17:50

and another thing....im soooooo gassy and had a bit of diarrhea on and off with this pregnancy, im like a whoppee cushion and my dd2 thinks its hilarious! [hgrin] , but my other 2 pregnancies i had constipation.

Rrrrayray · 14/10/2011 18:17

Starlight - I'm with you. I didn't like bio oil at all. I found it over priced and doesn't absorb well. Sits on the skin. The mama mio range is lovely, although again pricey. Wheat germ oil or avocado oil are both lovely & super nourishing. I have no stretchmarks from My daughter, but that said, I'm a firm believer youll either get them or you won't. The oil can only help so much!

Florin · 14/10/2011 18:26

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Think my first purchase is going to be a range of nice soft drinks so I don't miss wine too much!
I am going to pay for an 8 week scan as waited so long to get pregnant waiting until 12 weeks would be impossible. 8 weeks is going to be hard enough!

sparow · 14/10/2011 18:35

Biglips - i'm with you on the tummy troubles. I am waking in the night because it is so painful.... nothing is helping. I actually look pregnant as my tummy is so bloated! If you discover something that helps let us know! Wretched IBS

MyMamaToldMe · 14/10/2011 18:47

:( I'm bleeding. Not sure if this is just an implantation bleed or if it's something else. Please cross your fingers for me that this baby stays put.

Rrrrayray · 14/10/2011 19:23

Mama - thoughts with you.

Sparrow - my mother & sister suffer with IBS. Hope pregnancy doesn't flare it up too too much?! Do you limit your gluten in take? Seems to work for them!

working9while5 · 14/10/2011 21:37

Hope everything is okay Mama, thinking of you. It is so worrying. I had bleeding at this stage on last pregnancy and everything was fine so hopefully it will be the same for you.

I am not sure how I am doing symptomwise. I can definitely smell more, have some mild stretching pains and may be a tad more tired than usual but I feel a bit like symptoms or no symptoms it might be wise for me to "sit on the fence" about this pregnancy until I see a scan. Not meaning to sound negative but I do feel, well, different about this pregnancy to the last one. Not sure that is just because I am much much more aware of risks etc or if it's something about this particular pregnancy. I just have to believe that whatever will be, will be (and even if I can't, that's going to be true, isn't it???). Just trying to let it wash over me a bit and get on with things for now and not torture myself about the potential of m/c which I did all through first trimester last time due to bleeding etc. I find the little voice at the back of my head actually trying to make me worry because I'm NOT bleeding. Nuts.

Hope all well!

biglips · 15/10/2011 08:00

mama....how r u today?

greengoose · 15/10/2011 08:14

Morning all.

Mama , I think you are over 6 weeks? If you call your doctor they will arrange an early scan at EPU for you.... I bled with both my boys, so it doesnt always mean the worst, but obviously a scary time. Fx for you...

Re oil for bumps, although I think its been fairly much proven its genetic and oil doesnt help, my doctor said if I was going to do it then purified plant oils (such as olive)! were as good, if not better (because nothing added) than anything else.... I got marks anyway.Sad

If people are looking for pregnancy treats, Neals Yard do a lovely range of bath and massage oils for mums to be... smells like heaven!

It my DSs 4th birthday today, and he wants us all to go swimming. I hate the smell of the pool, and Im a bit worried I might be sick, but I did say he could choose.....

starlight those pillows look soooo comfy. I remember not understanding the need for them last time... then you get to that stage where you use all the pillows on the bed and wriggle all night with them......
