Child Rearing. Which I like a lot better than the F as I always mistake it for fertile and hate it, even though I know it means forever.

Scorpette · 12/04/2011 19:15

Ah. I always thought it sounded too much like fish, personally (I mistake it for fertile, too).

StiffyByng · 12/04/2011 20:15

I think you're completely entitled to batter some less needy type out of the way, scorpette. At the very least, I would bellow 'SPD' down the phone when you call them, so they do their best to save you the pool. Even a bath would probably help, wouldn't it? I know I'm virtually pain-free in there.

I have one cellular blanket I bought in Sainsburys. I must wash it.

The natural induction did confirm my suspicions that things are officially Out Of Control down there. I can literally tie a pubic ponytail, which I think is probably not ideal if I end up with stitches. MrByng suggests plaiting it, but I think a trim is a better idea.

Ocarina · 12/04/2011 22:19

What is a cellular blanket?

Scorpette · 12/04/2011 22:37

Knitted/woven with fairly big holes, Ocs. That's a shit description but the best I can do, soz. Also seemingly only available in pale blue or pale pink. Piss-yellow if you're lucky Hmm

Stiffy, I shall burst into the pool room, threaten the labouring woman with my crutches and hiss, 'Bitch better be stepping outta MAH birthing pool, sheeee-iiiiiiit', whilst rolling my head and shoulders and waggling my finger menacingly (please note: I may have watched too many Blaxploitation films for my own good).

I am happy - TYF has suddenly told me he thinks The Lad should have the formal version of the name we've picked, which is what I thought all along but wasn't arsey about as we'll only ever call him by the abbreviation (like Thomas/Tom but not that). And it's all thanks to summat in the MN Babies book I got from the library that he's been stealth-reading, huzzah. Of course, this now gives his full name 9 syllables but that's allowed for a PFB, right? My parents nearly gave me Ophelia* as a middle name in their PFB haze, so I think The Lad is getting off lightly Grin

Ethelbert is so much nicer than plain old Bertie, don't you think?

*Tbh, I would prefer this to my actual middle name.

Muser · 13/04/2011 04:16

Nine syllables! Tell me you mean letters!

macaroonmum · 13/04/2011 08:09

Morning all!

I thought I was going into labour yesterday but then I realised that my Zara maternity jeans are just too tight (no elastic bits) and I should stop wearing them. Blush

Bitey glad you got something worked out with your boss. At least in the train you can stretch out and stuff.

Occy I don't envy you having to wear a suit. I am counting down the days to when I can lounge about in floaty, shapeless things Smile. I think Next and M&S might do some maternity smart stuff.

Stiffy Maybe if you wash all the stuff and have it ready to be popped into the sparkling new drawers when they arrive you'll feel better for having done 'something'? Can I join the Pubic Girls' World club too?

Alps CRESH is genius Smile

Scorps It's a bit of a scary moment when you pack 'the bag' isn't it?! sounds like you've got everything you need, except perhaps numerous bars of chocolate/bags of crisps/other nice snacks. Doesn't the hospital give you a guide to what to bring?

I have a few ESH friends on t'other place but would love more. Not that I'm particularly exciting or anyting Link on profile if anyone's interested.

macaroonmum · 13/04/2011 08:14

Scorps forgot to say that's good news about the name (don't you love it when the men have such great ideas that we never thought of before Confused)
I too seem to have convinced TIS that our son will not be named after a certain Greek mythical hero, phew.

AlpinePony · 13/04/2011 08:16

Ocarina - A cellular blanket is just a fucking small blanket with a tenner added to the price and a picture of a baby on the label. Wink

Muser · 13/04/2011 08:43

My cellular blankets are massive! Apart from the tiny pram one. And they're white Scorps. I was given them from a friend, who gave me all her blankets and muslins, fab stuff.

occy cellular blankets have little holes in. I believe they are preferred as if the baby pulls the blanket over their face they can still breathe. Also if you get the massive ones you can fold them to suit the temperature and air gets trapped in between for extra toastiness.

laurielou · 13/04/2011 08:44

I haven't got any baby blankets, cellular or not Blush.

Nor do I have any nappies.

Or anything really, apart from some cutesy bright babysuits & matching stripy socks.

I'm struggling to find a hat in a neutral colour - all pink or blue. WTF?

Scorps I too am having a minor panic as I've just been told stoopid Holly Willoughby has gone into labour. According to my mum who seems totally obsessed by this woman, we're at the same stage of diffment, having our scans 1 day apart etc. Mum has been on Holly-bump watch to compare & contrast. And now the silly mare has gone into labour, mum has gone into hyper-drive, & I still have things to do in work before I even think about cellular sodding blankets. Surely some cotton wool balls sticky taped to baby & a bath towel to wrap the baby in will be OK, won't it?

The sun is still shining here, so I think I'm going to block it all out by downing some cider in the local park.

Muser · 13/04/2011 08:50

That's early for Holly to go into labour. Don't you dare copy her Lozza. Check out Mothercare for neutral hats, they usually have nice neutrals.

kat2504 · 13/04/2011 08:58

Gaaah the menkul is getting to me today. I don't feel very pregnant. I don't have symptoms. I even did another test yesterday which was utterly pointless as it just came up with 3+ straight away. Obviously. Have booked private scan for 8 weeks but that is in ten days time. In my head I am spending all the time reliving the horror of last years miscarriage and resulting surgery and am paranoid that I will have to go through it all over again and all those months of ttc will be wasted.

Aaaah breathe.... Verbal diarrhoea done! The waiting is pure torture.

PerfectDromedary · 13/04/2011 09:01

Baby Gap and John Lewis also good for neutral hats. Mind you, I've only just discovered that the knots in the top of the hat are not to make your child look like they own a corner in Baltimore but are so you can adjust the size - who knew?

We got given feck loads of baby blankets. Which was a good thing, since I didn't buy any.

laurielou · 13/04/2011 09:05

Ooh, thanks for the hat buying tips ladies. Drom I had no idea the knots were to adjust size - genius!

Kat I'm so sorry for what you went through last year, & that the menkal has got you too. It just seems relentless, doesn't it? No advice really - I have plenty of cider in the park if you fancy it..........

Ivegotmrbitey · 13/04/2011 09:41

Come 'ere kitten

Speaking as a compulsive gusset checker it is a horrible wait especially after what you have been through. No advice either but would love to join you both in the park, cider sounds ace.

maccers girls world pubic hair has given me a mental image that will send me scurrying straight for the fuzz away when I get home! not so much the hair but the face Eeeep! Grin

LadyGoneGaga · 13/04/2011 09:50

Aw Kat - the first 12 weeks is horrid when you have had a mc before. Try to stay positive...no reason why this one isn't a sticker this time. Hugs. Wish I could make the time go faster for you.

Fed up today, feel really heavy and knackered as MiniG was up a few times in the night and WILL NOT have MrG go to him. What the f*ck am I going to do with a wakey, wakey toddler and a newborn?!! Hmm On the plus side got a second viewing on our house today...please buy it!!!!

kat2504 · 13/04/2011 09:55

Thanks loz! the cider will be a welcome distraction! I haven't told people in rl yet, looking forward to hopefully doing that at Easter. Reminding self that odds are generally favourable. Have got massive tub of green pringles to go with the cider! Quite fancy a fag to go with it...

owlbooty · 13/04/2011 10:02

Kittykat I also completely know what you mean. There's just no relaxing during the first 12 weeks if you've mc'd in the past and reliving what happened is horrible and depressing. And it all feels like it's going to go on forever. I promise you, it will get better very soon. Please just keep reminding yourself that the odds are really, honestly on your side here. There is, as GG rightly says, no reason that this will go wrong and every reason why it will go right.

Macca Spartacus? Achilles? The mind boggles. Gluteus Maximus? Grin

GG Yay for second viewing, fingers crossed the offer is sensible :)

Lozza Bollocks to Holly Whaterface. Who the feck is she anyway?

Scorpette · 13/04/2011 11:17

Kat, nature is v cruel when you're in the first trimester. IME, those who've sadly had mcs will get zero symptoms or mild spotting or other terror-inducing crap whilst those who've daydreamed so much about pg that they've elevated it in their mind into being the apex of sublime female experience (like moi) will feel like they're dying of some gross medieval disease. Knowing this helps not a jot - I cannot imagine how scary this time must be for you and can only offer you an enormous snuggle in my v mumsy norks and plenty of hairstroking

Loz, someone told me that The Willoughby is laying early too. Queue-jumping bitch (seriously, even slightly prem must be worrying, poor lass). Booty, she is a pretty, asinine, blonde bint who co-presents This Morning. I watched it last week and she said she had a phobia of ghosts. Ghosts! How can you have a phobia of summat that doesn't exist?!

Muse, 9 syllables in the FULL name, the FULL name! Nothing wrong with Ebeneezer D'Artagnan Focker. My friend's teen son has 11 syllables in his full name and 9 when shortened as much as possible, so I feel that 9 is okay for full. Is cos The Lad is getting both our surnames, innit. Everyday name plus surname will be 6 syllables.

Macca, that's good to know about the name :) Notice how I plant ideas in TYF's head and patiently wait for him to come to a great realisation 'all of his own' Wink Try the same!

Drom, I can still use the knotty hats to make The Lad look like Omar, right?

PS Cellular blankets are 3 for 2 at Mothercare and I still have a 10% off code for those who want it.

Orchid12 · 13/04/2011 11:23

Waaaah - all this talk of training pubes is putting me off my elevenses Grin. You lot are gross! I have been having some 'issues' with non-glamorous differ symptoms too, mainly of the pelvic floor variety. I will not gross you out with the details but I'm hoping things go back to normal after squidge arrives or my sex life will take a nose dive for ever more! Poor Mr O...

LGG good luck with the house viewing! Hope the sleeping resolves itself too with your young man, I can imagine how knackering that is! I woke up in a blind panic last night after dreaming I was in labour (must be coming out in sympathy for Holly W!). Turns out I had really bad back pain, and my brain must have turned that into labour in my dream. I'm seeing the MW today so am going to ask if I can get physio as my back is now sore every day. I had this with mini O too so am not surprised. Having said that, cider down the park with you lot may be a good analgesic and would be more fun Smile

I also never knew the knots in hats were for re-sizing. Why they hell do they do not make that obvious (or am I just thick?). On the blanket front, John Lewis do nice cellular ones - we have plain white ones. I've got some teeny ones for the pram, but also a couple of humongous ones for the cot bed. I still use the bigger ones now for naps in the pram so they are useful.

Scrops I'm glad we're due at different times and that I'm at the 'other' hossie. I have vivid images of you breaking a door down with your crutch and screaming at whoever is in the birthing pool to get the feck out - I wouldn't want to be the poor bugger who is on the receiving end Wink That said, I shall be doing exactly the same if anyone is occupying the pool when I want it!

Kat hope the virtual cider is keeping some of the menkul away, that first 12 weeks is a real slog, 'speshially after what you've been through already.

Scorpette · 13/04/2011 11:48

Whaaaaaa? But Orchid, I got my cellular blankets from the very same JL as you and there was only blue and pink - I even asked if there was white! WTF was going on there? Mind you, the assistant was a bit clueless - they'd probably just sold out temporarily or summat. I feel cheated into avoidable gender stereotyping now! (I got some cot ones and a pram one too).

PS If we were due at the same time and hossie, we could share the birthing pool Grin

LadyGoneGaga · 13/04/2011 11:51

Orcs could you maybe try a Chiropractor for your back? I am very happy with the effect mine is having on my pelvis. Went yesterday and she crunched me about a bit more and makes everything feel a lot better. My pelvis had gotten quite wonky which had led tot he SPD pain - I wonder whether it might be due to carrying a toddler on one hip a lot? Might impact on back too, lifting up a little one. I am lucky in that my back has always been ok (touch wood)

I never knew about the hat thing either. But I prob shan't bother with a hat anyway til he/che needs a wooly one in the winter. Should be ok in July.

LadyGoneGaga · 13/04/2011 14:39

Good news!!! Sold my house...full asking price! Cash buyer! Whoo, hoo! Grin

Precious second born might get their own bedroom after all.

Orchid12 · 13/04/2011 14:50

Waaahhay LGG Fantabulous news.

Scorps not sure why JL didn't have white ones in? I have to say I went in the other day with my mum to look at beds/mattresses etc. I wanted to order a new pram mattress and they were not as helpful as they might have been. They are normally brilliant, but I think we must have had the same person!

Didn't think about the back pain and lifting mini O - makes sense as I do carry him on my hip (although avoid it if I can as he's sooooo heavy now!). Just back from the MW and was all fine and dandy. Squidge is head down, good heartbeat, measuring ok for dates etc. New MW seems nice, talked a lot about what happens at hossie births and was v. reassuring. She also said Scropes that water births are not that common Shock. She said they rarely have two women wanting the pool at the same time as majority don't want it. I find this hard to believe, but if true, then is only a good thing for us! She works at my hossie every Friday so she prob does have a good idea about these things.
