Thanks cherry Grin

kurlyvoice · 24/01/2011 17:50

Thanks cherry - what a lovely new thread! Grin

Had an awful day yesterday - a very close friend who was only 6 weeks behind me pregnancy-wise (so at 22weeks) lost her little girl yesterday morning after a 24 hour labour. She'd gone quiet on the updates so I now wonder whether they picked something up at her 21-week scan, but I just felt so terrible for so many reasons - guilt, particularly, at the injustice of it and the fact that I seem to have a healthy little one inside. I also spent the whole day imagining a million different scenarios that she had to go through and feeling more and more wretched for her. DH was a great support but still... And I don't know whether she will find it too hard to be my friend now, which seems like a horribly selfish worry.

Thankfully I get to see the midwife tomorrow so all my newly-awakened fears will hopefully be put aside with some measurements and bloods and heartbeat measures and stuff. Anyway, that's enough me-me-me - sorry for being down but I thought that you lovely girls would understand.

OneOf8, thanks for the updates and sorry that you and DS had such a traumatic start to motherhood/babyhood. Very glad that things are on the up and hope that you're starting to relax (as much as we ever can) into yummymummyness.

crazy, am very glad that the move went well and that you're loving your new place. We tried to distract ourselves yesterday by starting on the nursery decoration, so DH (with a little help from me) stripped the border off and washed it all down. Just need to choose a colour now to match our hedgehogs!

Sorry for everyone else I've missed out, but wanted to finish by wishing aly :) masses of luck and hope that things start by themselves before Thursday. You look amazing in your bump picture - I wish I looked so glamorous and I'm 12 weeks behind you, dammit!

haloflo · 24/01/2011 20:38

Evening all.

cherry Thanks for the new thread! I think this might be the thread in which I give birth Shock Maybe you too?! (I think the last one lasted 4 months so plenty of time unless we get chatty!)

crazy Glad the move went well and the cats like their new home.

kurly So sorry to hear about your friend, I can't imagine what she is going through. Hope the MW appointment goes well tomorrow. This your 28 week check? Just a word of warning, my blood would only trickle out at this appointment so it took ages to get the 2 vials needed and apparently that is quite normal. Although it didn't really hurt I got a lovely bruise for my troubles.

crazydayz Your name says it all! Glad the twins are coming along nicely. I'm afraid I have no SPD advise but I hope you find a way to deal with it.

aly Wow you look gorgeous! As does the nursery. All the best for this week, sending smooth labour vibes your way.

roundtable and slowshow How you getting on? Hope you both aren't too anxious and are suffering enough symptoms to reassure you without them being too bad!

seablue I hope you are ok and your LO has arrived by now.

Capricorn and homebound I hope you two are snuggling your LO's - please update us when you get chance!

Not too much new with me, still feeling pretty good although my back is starting to ache if I don't sit properly and for the first time hurt at work today. I hoping by consciously sitting better and maybe taking a cushion in I can stop this happening again or it will make for a very miserable last 5 weeks at work.

We started to paint Saturday but didn't finish. Unfortunately I am no longer much help so am relying on DP to do most of the hard work. Annoyingly he drank too much at a party Saturday night (after saying he wouldn't) so nothing else got done Sunday. The fact he doesn't seem pressured by time is starting to wind me up (he is out on Friday night this week too so won't be finishing the job until Sunday) but hopefully one day the room will be fresh so I can get the cot, drawers etc ordered and placed in that room, even if not set up properly in time for the arrival! The walls are just white so thinking of something like this to brighten up the room.

My antenatal classes start Wednesday. Am nervous but excited. I shall let you know how they go! Hope everyone else is well.

pixiestix · 25/01/2011 14:41

Lovely new thread Cherry!

Oneof8 I'm so so glad that your little boy is ok now. That Tegan might stop breathing is my worst fear - I check her obsessively through the night, and I'm sure DH thinks I'm madly paranoid. I can't imagine how scared you must have been Sad
Can't wait to hear all about his birth and what you have named him.

Aly wow, you are one foxy lady! [bgrin] Your bump is gorgeous and I was very [benvy] of your beautiful flat stomach in the beginning!! Its been many a year since mine looked like that!
Hope that everything goes well for you this week. Even if nature doesn't kick in before the induction, at least being induced you know for sure that you will have your little boy in your arms within a set timeframe - that kept me going through my labour!!

Kurly I am so sorry to hear about your friend Sad Stories like that make my blood run cold. Your worries arent selfish at all but completely natural, and sadly she may well find it difficult to spend time with you at first. All you can do is be there for her when she needs you Sad Its just so awful.

I love those stickers Halo! I've been looking into them for Tegan but we are a bit strapped for cash at the moment and she got given so many bits and pieces for Christmas from the family that I am holding off until the novelty has worn off them!

Happy days here - I have lost weight and Teg has put it on - bonza!! [bgrin]

slowshow · 25/01/2011 14:44

Congratulations on your little boy OneOf8. Sorry to hear you had such a massive scare - glad the little one is ok now Smile

What awful news about your friend Kurly Sad

Thanks for asking haloflo! I'm doing ok, though the nausea has got worse the last couple of days. Part of me is pleased, obviously, but the other part of me is really scared of it descending into actual puking - do not know how I'll manage to function at work. I'll be 7 weeks on Thursday.

Was complaining to my mum about how bloated I've been, and she piped up with "Funnily enough, when we saw you at New Year I looked at your tummy and was wondering if you had something to tell us". I was about 5-7 DPO at that point Hmm. So I said, "No Mum, that would have been Christmas gluttony". But it's nice to know how tubby I was looking at the family new year party...

There's another big family party this weekend. Not looking forward to it. Will have to spend the evening sucking my stomach in, trying not to let anyone notice I'm not drinking ("antibiotics" will not wash, so I think I'm going to have to take a glass of champagne when offered and get my mum/dad/husband to drink it for me) AND stay awake until 1am. This will be interesting.

slowshow · 25/01/2011 14:45

Forgot to ask - when you do usually have your booking in appointment with the midwife?

fudgecat · 25/01/2011 16:08

cherry thank you for keeping my little Elliot on the list

x

pixiestix · 25/01/2011 16:16

Fudgecat you will always be a Frolicker and Elliot will always be a beautiful Frolicker baby. None of us will ever forget him xx

fudgecat · 25/01/2011 16:22

thank you pixie i do still have a lurk now and then to see how you guys are getting on

highheelsandequations · 25/01/2011 17:11

slow I had my booking appointment and scan at 11+4, nothing before that and nothing after till the 20 week scan so keep feeling a little left in the dark but think it depends from place to place.

Read somewhere on the internet today that swimming should be avoided in the 2nd trimester, I assumed this was nonsense as I've always heard smimming recommended in pregnancy, anyone else ever heard this? Must go as off to pilates just now (determined to try and get back to some sort of level of fitness) but hopefully back to catch up properly later.

haloflo · 25/01/2011 20:54

pixie Good to hear from you, sounds like you and Tegan are doing well. Good work on the weight loss, its what those of us who have put rather a lot on want to hear!

fudge I hope you are doing ok, I often think of Elliot.

slowshow How cheeky of your mum! I'm sure you looked fine! Good luck at the party. I went to a wedding at 6 weeks and sipped a drink but found it quite easy to hide as people were more concerned with topping up their own alcohol levels. About the booking appointment I rung my local surgery at 5 weeks and was told to ring back at 8 for a midwife appointment. I got in with the midwife at 9 weeks when she made my booking appointment (with the medical history and bloods) at 12 weeks and my scan appointment at 11+2. I then had nothing until 20 weeks like highheels I think all areas vary though so maybe call your surgery and see what they say.

highheels I have checked the pregnancy bible and no mention of avoiding swimming in the 2nd trimester. I cannot possibly think of a reason why! In fact my local area runs aqua natal for all pg ladies over 20 weeks so i'm sure that can't be right?

crazybutterflylady · 26/01/2011 12:42

Hi all! Just a quick one as I am back at work today (uh) and have masses to catch up on...

fudge lovely to hear from you, I hope you're doing well. I think of you a lot x

halo I have bought some gorgeous wall stickers from here - they deliver really quickly and were good value. Though I have to say I love the ones you posted! It must be getting quite exciting for you, doing the nursery etc. Currently our nursery is packed full of boxes :( Just like every other room in the house really..! Sounds like you are firmly in the nesting stage - shame it hasn't rubbed off on the DH!!

Good to hear from you pixie glad to hear you are doing well and fab news on the weight loss... send us your tips!!

slow I know how you feel about the nausea, mine was awful but I wasn't ever sick. Well, not until the day I turned 12 weeks when I was expecting the nausea to have vanished!! Sod's law Hmm - I did find that having it was quite comforting in a way... strange but true!

highheels I agree with halo... I have aquanatal classes near me too from 20 weeks. Perhaps it's more the type of stroke you do - some people think breast stroke (I think!) can cause SPD...?!

I had my midwife appointment yesterday and she has suggested a home birth... what are everyone's thoughts on this?!! I am quite tempted in a way but then the other part of me thinks Shock.

cherrycobbler · 26/01/2011 14:50

fudge good to hear from you - you will always be a frolicker mummy and Elliot a frolicker baby. hope you're doing ok - as the others have said, you and baby E are often in my thoughts.

slow hope the nausea levels out. I didn't find the puking any worse than the actual nausea if that makes sense. Sweets (percy pigs from M&S were a hit) and cold fizzy drinks helped me a bit when I couldn't keep anything down. My booking in was at 8 weeks I think (they took LOADS of blood and I almost fainted as that plus morning sickness was not good - be warned), then had nuchal scan at 12 weeks.

Oooooh crazyb would that be the first Frolicker home birth?! My colleague had two home births and loved them - was snuggled in bed with her babies and a cup of tea, and sending emails about 30 minutes after the LOs popped out (!). I am too much of a wuss in terms of pain though and would want to at least know that drugs were on hand (I may be converted to natural methods after my antenatal classes!). We're also a good 30ish minutes from the nearest hospital with a maternity unit - I think if we were much nearer I'd feel a bit braver as the option of transferring would seem less drastic.

Good luck at the antenatal classes halo! Let us know how it goes. The stickers look lovely! Five weeks left till ML - am jealous!!

kurly, your poor friend, what awful news :( Hope your appt with the m/w went well and you're feeling a bit less unsettled (obviously still v sad for your friend, but less scared about babykurly, if that makes sense).

I survived my weekend away, although was so tired when I got back (not much sleep when away) that I slept for about 13 hours straight! Baby has been quieter than usual for the past couple of days - still kicking every now and then and I can hear its little heartbeat fast and strong on the doppler but obviously its stressing me out! I might mention it to the midwife for some peace of mind.

We're picking up our pram today (second hand) and the nursery is about half finished. We got wall stickers from ikea and I've still to make curtains and cushions for the rocking chair.

Looking forward to mat leave. I finish my 2 day a week job on March 1st. It's going to be so nice to drive 120 fewer miles a week!

Hi to all of you :)

Congratulations Aly! A little Burns baby!

It was my birthday on Wednesday and my Mummy presented me with some beautiful bunting that she has made herself, which matches our hodgepodge theme. It's the baby's first proper present and so very sweet!

Had a good chat with the friend who lost her baby. It had a very rare heart problem and wouldn't have survived for very long if it had made it to term, and there is almost no chance that it would happen again. They're very keen to try again once her hormones have sorted themselves out, so hopefully our little babe will get its friend within the next year or so. Thank you for your supportiveness and for helping me to support her.

halo, thank you so much for the blood tip - it happened to me just like you had described! The sore arm has only just eased off, and I still have quite a mark... Apart from that, though, the appointment was fine (thanks cherry) and the munchkin was actually head down! Totally not going to stay that way, but still.

to fudge - so lovely to see you occasionally and I hope that you are doing ok. I can echo what the others have said - I still think about you and little Elliot a lot.

Liking the new name, JSJ, and very pleased to see you back! I wish I was starting my maternity leave at the same time as you - I'm going on until the 18th (though hopefully with a nice long handover so that I don't get too exhausted in the last three weeks of teaching!). Have you gone to any antenatal classes yet? My NHS ones start on Monday...

crazyb, I like the idea of a homebirth except for my nice cream carpets... And the fact that I'm a good 20-30 minutes from the hospital depending on the time of day! If all goes well with this one then I might be tempted if we can manage a baby no.2.

Anyway, I've got a nice quiet night planned as I had parents' evening last night, so hope to keep in touch with you all over the weekend!

bunnygirl80 · 28/01/2011 21:07

I lost you all for a while there!!

Congrats on the birth of your DS aly

fudge lovely to see you still you lurk. I often think of you and ELiiot and I still give William a kiss from you every night when I put him to bed Smile

Congratulations Aly have updated the list for you.

Hope no-one minds that I also shifted a few people around a bit too, I know capricorn, homebound and seablue have all probvably had their little bundles by now but thought I'd put them in their own wee group until it is confirmed!!

Have been lurking for the last while - not much to report really, LO has been quite quiet the last week or so - not sure if this s normal or not for the 26-27 week mark?? Have 28 weeks appt on Monday so will check with midwife then.
Otherwise having a bit of back pain and not much else doing!! 7 weeks til mat leave and I can't wait!!

Hope everyone else is doing well :)

crazydayz · 29/01/2011 09:23

Hi all,

I had 25 week midwife appointment yesterday and thought I'd make you all laugh as am now measuring 40 weeks (for if I was having one that it is)! Grin I certainly don't feel so bad if I moan about being able to get around now!!

Anyone using/ going to use disposable nappies check out amazon's prices as they are very, very cheap at the moment and we are starting to stockpile!

I'll leave EDD the same on the list for now but have been told by consultant that I won't go past 38 weeks so they will be born by 29/04/11! 24 week scan all fine and approx weights are 800 and 815g but one has flipped breech!

Crazy B It would fab to meet up for a coffee at some point, maybe when mat leave starts? I think it would be fab to have a home birth but it would depend for me on how far away the nearest hospital is? Which hospital are you using? We will be in the Lister in Stevenage.

MrsW I also can't wait for mat leave. Willing the time away - 6 weeks to go!

Big wave to everyone else and big congrats to Aly!

LadyHermyaDeTamble · 29/01/2011 20:45

Oh Aly had her baby, gosh I missed that one didn't I!

How are you all doing?

DS is coming on in leaps and bounds, he's now three months old and has rolled over for the first time last week. He gurgles and chats away. It feels like only yesterday we were in the hospital getting ready to come home for the first time.

Fudge I still think of you and little Elliot, I hope you're doing ok. I echo what everyone else has said, you're very much a frolicker and little Elliot is very much a frolicker baby.

crazybutterflylady · 31/01/2011 10:33

crazy Shock measuring 40 weeks already, you poor love! It's scary to think that in May you will have 2 gorgeous babies.. how exciting!

I'd love to meet up, I am hoping to go on maternity leave on 1 April, so anytime after then would be fine, or a Friday before then since I WFH on Fridays...

mrswajs thanks for updating the list. Good to hear everything is fine with you, I can;t believe how quickly everything is going (although I am starting to feel like I have been pregnant forever!!)

My EDD is wrong for some reason, not sure how I managed to miss that! It's only one day out though and it means I am not down to give birth on Friday 13 which is fine by me :)

Nice to hear from you kurly. We are still deliberating about a homebirth. I am in two minds really; DH is definitely for the hospital and he's said we can use that to help decide whether we have a homebirth next time.

My nearest hospital is Milton Keynes which is in special measures for maternity. Someone made a good point that it means they are going to be extra vigilant but who knows... otherwise the MLU is 10 miles away at Bedford. I'm seeing my community midwife in 2 weeks so will ask her for more information. I wouldn't do it if DH was still set against it though.

Hope you all have a lovely week :)
