chacha..im feeling pretty good..bad spd, but I am learning to deal with it these days. Of out for cake and a chat with some friends in a bit too which will no doubt improve my mood even more..hehe
I am a bit peeved with dp though, him or his family seem to throw something new to worry about into the equation on aan almost daily basis...and he's been leaving me to deal with a lot of it..
i am considering retreating to my mums for a few days to be fussed over by her and my dad, and have help with all the shopping etc- will be nice to get out of london too!
how are you today? has the frantic cleaning calmed down!?

ChaCha · 28/09/2005 14:31

BoB - I definitely suggest that you treat yourself to a break at your folks place! Sounds great. Have been cooking since the morning and pleased to say that it's all ready now so will just spend afternoon relaxing and reading.
Have a nice time out

Londoner · 28/09/2005 14:38

bob, sorry no exp. of any of these new types of baby cribs.... I have always made do with hand me downs and this time is no exception as we've been given a moses basket... which is great. As you say though, once baby can sit up at @ 6-9 months these 1st beds become redundant. Problem is, they all sound great choices, good luck with your decision! Is it poss. for you to visit say a department store which stocks all the different types and have a go with them to see which one you like the feel of/shape of best/ listen to salesperson blurb? Hope you have a good dose of cake and chat this afternoon!
ChaCha, 4/5 engaged means the baby's head has moved right down into the pelvis and it's ready for action.... I suppose once it's fully engaged ie. 5/5 then it will stimulate the cervix to dilate... hopefully not just yet though! With 1st babies they can start to engage anywhere from 33 weeks but average is @ 36/37 apparently, although it is perfectly normal if it doesn't happen til labour begins too..... with 2nd/subsequent babies they tend not to engage until labour begins.... obviously noone told my baby this.... but they can quite merrily 'bounce' in and out of engagement when you've had a few already - babies that is, not drinks....
HTH, sorry about wafflyness, I am officially an over-explainer...
It was really good to hear baby's heart beating away this morning though, especially as I've been feeling so rrrrrrrubbish these past few weeks, and it's really slowed down too, looks more like a boy's heartbeat now than a girls... hmmm. Also am measuring correct size for dates which is so amazing for me, they usually tell me I'm far too small. Anyway, sorry if I put anyone to sleep out there!

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 14:39

I may well do..am just a bit worried the baby may decide to come while i'm up there!
Though actually as thats where most of friends and family are it wouldn't be so bad!
Dp though jokes that if the baby is born up north he'll need a passport to get back to london..hehehe

Londoner · 28/09/2005 14:42

BTW, how do you know when it's time to start a new thread? Is there a max number of posting space available?

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 14:43

londoner..crossed posts there!
We have seen them all..just can't decide!hehehe
we have an amazing cot/bed which my aunt has passed onto us..she paid £800 for it, so it's great for us as otherwise he would have had a cheapie ikea one..hehehe
Obviously by 6 months ish he can move into that one..just wanted to get the most use out of whichever crib we go for.

Realised I am missing out on the next meet up..did I just forget or am I ..whisper...not invited!?

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 14:45

Oh..and I think it's new thread time when it gets far too large..unsure when that is..it's always someone else who takes care of that!hehehe

Londoner · 28/09/2005 14:49

bob yeah, decisions are tough at the best of times, but pumped full of hormones like us it's super tough! BTW cot sounds gorg! Lucky baby, will be demanding breakfast in bed etc..
Can you not come to meet up? Do come!
Hmm, thread too large eh..... why don't we go for a record massive thread! See how much we can squeeeeeeeze out of it....

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 14:55

sounds good Londoner...uber long thread!
..and yess hope it doesn't start him out expecting luxury..hehe..very unlikely from us!
I would love to join you at the meet up..glad i just got overlooked and not excluded hehee..
only thing is if I do decide to go to my parents it wil be on friday, as they are refusing to let me make a long train journey so my dad wil come down on his day off to collect me. Still undecided though as I do appreciate my home comforts at the moment, regardless of the stress!
Only prob is MiL is coming...again on saturday, so i may well want to avoid that..hehehe

Londoner · 28/09/2005 15:18

Hmmm, bob, it's not your MIL who peels off wallpaper is it?

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 15:22

yes...and has very strong and crazy opinions about birth and general parenting..even if I don't go to my mums I may go off to a friends for the evening..hehe..I can't bear it!

Londoner · 28/09/2005 15:25

bob - Could you meet your dad at Angel? Mmmmmm, NOODLES, RAMEN, mmmmm.... You could still have time? 'Wafer thin' ladies wot lunch first (12.30 = nice & early still)? Nice relax in dad's car feeling full and contented as he speeds you away from impending MIL visit?
karmamother - welcome to the site! ... I, am very confused.... I thought you'd always posted on here... think you must have joined near the same time as me.... either that or I am more displaced that I feared!

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 15:31

ooh..didn't realise the meet was so early!
in that case I am fine either way. He will be coming from up north and will no doubt have a lie in first so it's all good!
should I pm you my details or is there a 'master of ceremonies' I should send them to!?

but...
what is the confusion with karmamother1? am I missing something!?

goldenoldie · 28/09/2005 15:37

tex111 · 28/09/2005 15:39

Rodeo - Wow! That is so exciting. I'm sorry to ask as I'm sure you've mentioned it before but what made you go for the scheduled cesarean? I'm getting some pressure to go VBAC and feeling a bit confused. Would love to hear how you came to that decision.

As for wards vs private room, I have to say I quite liked being on the ward too. We had the curtains open only during certain times of day and no one seemed to mind if I wanted to keep mine closed for any reason. It was interesting to chat with the other mothers and all quite cozy. I expected to hate it but was pleasantly surprised. But I think you have to do whatever works for you. I have friends who much preferred a private room but I think I would feel quite lonely and bored all tucked away from the action.

OK, I'm off upstairs to pack my hospital bag now. Got all the bits and pieces together I think and it's a good opportunity to do it while DS is at preschool. Very exciting!

goldenoldie · 28/09/2005 15:40

Londoner - did you get any Gaviscon? They do it in half litre bottles.

Karma - I've been very good and my blood sugars are all within normal limits - except for the times they drop below 4.............

Nesting started in earnest now, I've asked the cleaner to do some extra hours so she can fit all the ironing in as well!

tex111 · 28/09/2005 15:42

Oh yes, speaking of the hospital bag - made a trip out to Asda yesterday and got some great navy PJ bottoms for 5 pounds each, some slippers for 2 pounds, some stretchy black trousers for after the birth for 3 pounds, etc, etc. It was great and saved a ton of money as I was planning to hit Gap for it all. DH was very pleased.

twinkle1 · 28/09/2005 16:01

Londoner · 28/09/2005 16:04

bob - yay, so you'll come? p.s. take no notice of me & my confusion....
golden, thanks for asking about the Gaviscon.... I didn't get any just because I really hate taking any medicine.... I'll keep on drinking milk and cammomile tea and see if I can get by..... looking forward to those noodles though, mmmmm...
tex111 - you are impressing me with your shopping skills.... you sound all set to go! Asda rules in my book too...

karmamother · 28/09/2005 16:04

Afternoon.
Londoner - I've only been on here for a few weeks but there is a MNer named kama so that may explain the confusion. I'm totally confused with everything in general ATM so I feel in good company!
Goldenoldie - just got back from seeing the dietician. She congratulated me on my excellant levels, felt like I was back at school. I asked her about testing for ketones & they just don't bother with them. She said that if your levels were very low (not enough carbs) or also very high, you'd get ketones. When I said you had twins she thought that might be contributing. Wonder why you drop below 4? Anyway, she said I can drop a few fasting levels in the week which I'm pleased about.
BoB - I couldn't bring myself to buy a crib/moses basket that wasn't going to be used after 6 months! I'm a bit of a cheapskate!! I reckon bubs will be latched on for most of the time anyway. I'm going to put the cot next to my side of the bed so I don't have far to go in the night.

Been struggling trying to find something nice to wear in labour. What's everyone else going to wear? I don't want to spend much as I'm sure it'll get messy. Its got to be cool & be able to open at the front so I can have skin to skin & latch her on straightaway. Also, its got to cover my arse. Not wearing a hopsital one so all can see my butt!

JenJam · 28/09/2005 16:10

great. just had my annual review and bawled my eyes out. nice one. i looked really professional. NOT.
what do you make of this ...as i've lost all perspective. every year everyone in our small company gets a payrise (even if a small rise in line with inflation). This time I didn't get one. also i had hoped that my work this year would have put me closer to directorship (as discussed at my review last year), but there was no mention of it at all and it was implied that i haven't had time to focus on this and wouldn't have time to focus on this ambition for a little while in the future (say another year). On the positive side, my employer said they would pay me double the statutory pay for 20 weeks and said they thought i should get 5/6 of my salary for a 4 day working week when i get back which seems like a really good offer?. Am i crying for no reason whatsoever and should i count myself lucky. can't help feeling a little bit niggled that if i wasn't pregnant i would have argued for directorship and would have been outraged if I had not had a pay review.
I may have mntioned before i work for a very small company full of childless people.
btw will someone please make me feel better about bawling like a complete lunatic.

JenJam · 28/09/2005 16:13

goldenoldie unfortunately i can't make it to the friday meet at wagas...hope to join you on the next one...if there is one before you give birth.

hve just read my post and really can't decide whether i am being over-demanding or whether i am really being treated very well indeed. advice very welcome / please.

karmamother · 28/09/2005 16:15

JenJam - not sure if you've been "bribed" by the hike in Mat pay. They might be trying to hide the real issue - you've been passed over for promotion. They will have to tread carefully as it's illegal to discriminate because you're PG.

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 16:15

londoner...I will be there!
karma..as we are getting the proper cot for free..and it's too big to have in our room alongside our existing stuff and the bath/changing unit etc we want something compact for the first few months..will be nice to have it in the living room with us too!
For labour I got a great nighie in the m&s sale..it's t-hirt type material, buttoned through and in black! yay!
not sure they will still have them but it was only £6...

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 16:17

oooh and golden..did you get my pm?
