Morning all

Well the breast feeding NCT was interesting. Different teacher to normal. I couldn't stop laughing all the way through, must have seemed like a naughty school girl, especially when it started everyone else off. Things like when teacher asked 'How do you know you have been breastfeeding for too long?' my response 'When you have been at it for two days?' All the comments of good swallowing techniques etc, I think it was the delivery of it, it just made me laugh. DH said he felt like a 4 year old. Got some good advice though and practised positioning etc, which was useful.

ChaCha - noticed you weren't on here at your usual 3am did you manage to sleep? I slept much better last night, that mothercare wedge pillow along with the grobag is really starting to work.

Not stressing about the birth now as I think we will go for the doula and my parents have said they would be pleased to use some of the money they were giving me for it, so that is all good. DH is going read the website tonight and then hopefully we will book a consultation.

I have the urge to organise today so think I am going to do a few last things in the nursery and then attack the study.

Right see you later

Baby - should dh have discussed this with you first before offering this bloke a place to stay?

Tex - good luck, baby's birthday booked!

Karma - I'm a bit confused with the blood sugar. Everytime I manage to get it under 8, (2 hours after eating) my ketones go beserk. Is that how it should be? And what should you do if your blood sugar drops below 4?

Enthusia - think the doula is a great idea. If I were not having CS and GA I would def have one.

Don't forget out meet on Friday girls - hope the weather improves.

babyonboard · 27/09/2005 08:18

pinkminx..teehee at vision of you going into labour in the bread asile and not quite realising...
the braxton hicks can be surprisingly painful..contrary to wha tthe books say..
dp got a good telling off last night, and fortunatley we have gotten the guy to stay with another friend. I told him it would be too complicated for him to be here..he can't move til tomorrow though..grrr...
feeling sory for you two with the gd..i'd be hopeless if it happened to me, I can't even remember where my shoes are these days let alone havingnto control my diet and test bloods etc all the time..

rodeo1 · 27/09/2005 10:14

Morning!

Well done on getting baby's birthday booked Tex! I'm off to do the same later! Will let you know! Last scan today, although not expecting to see much as it's all crammed in there now. Last time we couldn't see very much either but the sonographer did show us a pair of cute little feet!

Good luck with your consultation Enthusia, sounds like a great plan if you ask me!

Ben getting BH too, feel a bit like period pains to me which go through to my thigh bones. Not too painful but they make me want to bend over!

Got my Arnica 200 in the post this morning! If anyone is getting any from the Helios website, I'd recommend getting 14g of pills as my 8g seems a bit small! Also got some Calendula 200 too as that's supposed to help too (read on some MN thread somewhere)

Right I'm off now to do a quick tidy and hopefully attempt to sort the BC. Won't say it out loud, Beks will know what I'm on about!!

Morning girls,

Bob what a nightmare for you, men just don't think things through before they open their mouths sometimes do they! Glad you got it sorted though, without getting too caught in the crossfire.

Tex, wow 1st November, how fantastic. I'll find out if me friend is working and let you know.

I went on the ward visit last night, the rooms were much nicer than the old hospital but the maternity ward seemed really cramped, although they did say you can pay £109 per night if you wanted a private room!!! Needless to say I'll be coming home asap instead! The thing that struck me most was how far the labour ward was, it was on the third floor at the end of a long corridor, sure that's going to seem like miles when in pain!!!

The visit obviously cashed a reality cheque for for me though as I had horrible nightmares about the birth, punctuated by Ben shouting No, No, No in his sleep and then woke at 2:30am and couldn't get back to sleep untill 4:30am - fantastic when you've got a 3 year old - not. Had to go downstairs and eat bread & marmite to make me feel better!!!

Enthusia think you might be right about the nesting, feeling much happier now all the house is clean, bump can come when it likes now. Really don't think I'll make the 13th November, reckon it's more likely yo be a halloween monster instead

Sorry to hear your hospital sounds so cr*p, I think the doula idea is a good one if you can form a good rapport with her and she will make you feel more in control. Sure it will all pan outin the end, and all you've got to think is no matter where you have it you'll have beautiful baby at the end of it all.

Karma lol at your dream of the baby introducing herself, can you imagine how shocked you'd be

Right off to get ready for Microsports & a visit to a friends although feeling a bit out of sorts after last nights escapades. Speak to you all later Beks

BEKsmum · 27/09/2005 10:30

Rodeo, I heard that, haven't you done that yet!!!

Good luck today, is this where you find out you should have been on the October thread all this time and we get to boot you off

I reckon I'm going to be giving you a run for your money on being first at the moment as showing all the same signs as I had with Ben. Think I could be hauled in at 36 weeks again, just hope to get past the 34 week mw visit without her noticing my ankles!!! Not that you can miss them at the moment

Now get off the pc and sort those clothes!!!

rodeo1 · 27/09/2005 10:39

Just wanted to quickly show you all these, just ordered some nappy liners but she also makes cute reusable nappy wipes and includes a recipe for the wipes too! And she's got loads of cute colours and designs!

They're here!

Beks, haha, no still not done 'the task' yet!! And please please PLEASE be early too! I want to be able to moan to someone about my shreaded nips!

Diege · 27/09/2005 10:53

Hello everyone! Hope it's OK for me to join in again after being away for so long. Feel a bit cheeky as have been regularly lurking, but had a few problems revealed at the 20 week scan that sent me into isolation mode (not healthy I know) The baby is apparently fine, though a few scares in the last ten weeks (fluid around the kidneys - a soft marker for chromsone problems, but not actually that worrying for me since both dd's had the same and it disappered post-natally with them). Big worry was echogenic focus in liver (bright spot), which hinted at CMV infection, with repercussions for brain development, but those tests came back negative after anxious 3 week wait, and was told it's just something they see from time to time. Now it's growth scan time, as baby seems small (though I'm 5' 3" and (usaully a size 6-8), so again not worried on that count either (well...) Sometimes I wish I was brave enough to refuse any further scans (every 2 weeks) like some women are, but when they plant that seed of doubt, it seems irresponsible not to go. Anyway, feel much more positive about things - midwife is happy, and says everything is spot on growth wise re: fundus, and bubs very active too.
Hope you'll have me back - I'm not looking for sympathy, and feel bad about not sharing this all with you . Now happily thinking more along the lines of boots vouchers, hospital bag etc, and wish I was closer to London so I could make the meet-up! (I'm in Warrington). Have loved reading the posts, and hopefully will have internet connection at home soon, as I finish work next Tuesday (not a day too soon!).
Speak soon hopefully,
Diege (33 +2)xxxx

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 10:55

Morning all,

Enthusia - I slept all night!!! (hourly loo visits not included) I feel so much better this morning, I slept with pillows either side as well as using the grobag and found that it made all the difference. Happy organising!

Karma - As you can see the pillows definitely worked for me too! I go through what you do exactly - funny you mention the changing sides on return from loo visits, thought that was just me!

BoB - Glad things have worked out on the friend front.

Beks - Do you really think this baby of yours will arrive late October time? WoW. You guys are scaring me now.
Who the heck will I talk to on here? If I go full term there are going to be a lot of ChaCha and ChaCha posts, ha ha!! 109quid for a room!?! That's a bit steep! I asked when last at the hospital and they said 60! That's almost double.

Rodeo - All waiting to hear the news of the date!!!

Goldenoldie - Thanks for asking. If i'm to be honest with you DH had actually been cajoling me to go down to the meet-up (I had such a great day out with a friend the other day he is encouraging me to get out more) but he is against the idea of me getting the coach into London and then making my way there. He is very protective and seeing as I have no friends here who will be willing to take me and he is working not much I can do...
I do appreciate you making the dates early for me in light of forthcoming month. Thanks

Enthusia · 27/09/2005 11:13

Hiya ChaCha

I too have to change positions when I come back from the loo, and even if I don't go to the loo it is a different side every hour. Although the wedge and the grobag are great I think DH is getting a little bored of being whacked in the head each hour as I try and shift around (those gobags get hard if all the beads get in one end don't they - DH is not impressed!!!)

Ok - Monica is out in full force!!!!! I have just arranged all our CD's, VCD's and DVD's into alphabetical order and sorted all the ones with no cd's etc, in them!!!! Mind you it was worth it, I found a £50 note in a cd case, how the hell did that get there?????!!!! I think it was our 'emergency English money' from when we were in Thailand, brightened up my morning though!!!

Also got a snowsuit I ordered from Ebay which is adorable!!!!!

ChaCha - my hospital side rooms are £80 and over £100 for 'the one' with ensuite facilities. Are all yours on a 'first come first served' basis?

Diege - So sorry to hear things have not been going smoothly for you. But am glad things are now sorting themselves out. welcome back .

Think we may have to sort out a new thread after today, what do you think??????

Rodeo and Beks - Please put me out of my misery, what is BC? Or do us first timers really not want to know!?!?

OP posts:
ChaCha · 27/09/2005 11:31

Just a guess but I think it could be Baby Clothes??

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 11:37

Oooh...Diege, our posts must have crossed!! Welcome back, you have been missed. My friend was scanned every 2 weeks from about 34 weeks and monitored constantly due to baby being small and apparently not growing very well, however, she arrived last week and is a very healthy, beautiful 5 pounder - not a thing wrong with her and they didn't need to do any further tests etc.. We look forward to sharing your news when you are free from work.

Enthusia - You make me sick Not only are you miss busy bee but you also find money in doing so?!? What the heck? Nahh..only kidding. Good on you, you can treat me to lunch, he hee!
DH is going to KILL me! I moved the living room furniture around (looks so much better) but involved shifting the smaller bookcases and sofa/chairs etc. I feel fine but i know he is going to freak. Have had to come upstairs to PC for a break now.

goldenoldie · 27/09/2005 11:53

Becks/Enthusia - I get the private room for free, but you have to have twins or trips to qualify and jump the que! And it is first come first served, so if another multiple mum goes into labour/needs the room before me - I'm scuppered.

Welcome back Diege.

ChaCha - shame you can't come, I thought it was just a timing issue/Ramadan.

Scan today suggests both boys are about 4lbs each. Not bad for 29 weeks. Consultant talking about planned c-section on 10 November - but will firm up date in October!

novadandypowder · 27/09/2005 12:00

Chacha, thats the only reason i do the laundry - DH is always leaving money in his trousers

Off to get the lady garden waxed again today, not quite sure what it looks like any more as lost sight of it weeks ago.

Embarrassing problem time - I can't stop breaking wind at the moment, especially at night in bed. I've even woken myself up with a particularly loud trump . Feel very sorry for DH.

Welcome back Diege

Diege · 27/09/2005 12:00

Thanks Chacha and Enthusia! Ooh, you are inspirational with your organising and sorting out. I'm still trying to get through dds' laundry basket - to my shame have things in there from last Spring!! It will all change when I am off next week though! Thanks for reassurance Chacha re: growth scans. The consultant has estimated about 7lbs, which I don't personally think is a weeny, although my dd's were pretty average at 7. 6 and 8.1. Think I will be early again like Beks though - due 13th, but I'm convinced at least 5 days early.
LOL re: Jane pram! We have one which arrived a few weeks ago, but was hurridley put back into box, to be returned to later, as instruction booklet was horrendous! And the Jane car seat - anyone successfully fitted one!! Right, back to work (boss just poked head round door and arranged my appraisal for next Tues (my last day) - the one who said I wasn't a 'team player' for taking an hour off for 20 week scan!!).

Diege · 27/09/2005 12:03

Thnaks Nova and Goldenoldie! Thinking about the old waxing myself, after a desperate lunge with the razor in the shower the other day, leaving a rather alarming bald area...But the pain of waxing is supposed to be worse when you're pregnant isn't it? (oh yeah, like compared to labour pains...!!

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 12:03

Hiya Golden - that was the only real issue until now. As i'm progressing in PG DH worries and does not like the idea of me being alone on a bus for more than the usual trip to town. It's normal for me anyway..my dad was the same until I was 21!!! I've always been very much protected.

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 12:05

LOL at 'alarming bald area' ha ha!!!

Nova - Lucky you! All i find in DH's trousers are screws, nails, bits of wire and 50p if it's a good day

novadandypowder · 27/09/2005 12:18

Diege, i think the area is a bit more sensitive in the first trimester, but otherwise it's no more painful than normal. And I also think 'well, if i've got to go through labour then waxing should be a walk in the park'.

I go to a great waxing bar that does hot waxing rather than strip waxing, it's much nicer and leads to less ingrown hairs. However you do ahve to be committed with hot waxing - I was worried about the extra pain thing when I went for the first time and then i realised she'd painted me with the wax and was waiting for it to set. So i was stuffed if it did hurt because there was only one way to get the wax off again!!!

goldenoldie · 27/09/2005 12:28

I'm not bothering with the waxing 'down below'. As I'm going to be sliced and diced (c-section), no one is going to see my bushy bits anyway!

karmamother · 27/09/2005 13:43

Afternoon all. Got my 2nd lot of Boots vouchers! Needless to say, chores postponed till after trip to shops. Can't wait to use all the mummy goodies tonight!

Goldenoldie - Had a think about your ketones. Are you eating some carbs with each meal? If you're worried about their effect on your levels, try a high fibre version, eg wholemeal bread with lots of "Trill" in it. The fibre slows down the absorption & lessens the spike in blood sugar level. I look at the carb levels in each meal, its what diabetics usued to do years ago. I find that if I stay under 30g per meal then I'm ok. Are you still eating fruit? Try reducing it. I haven't been asked to test my ketones, strangely, so I haven't a clue if I'm producing any.

Enthusia - what are these grobags & where can I get one? They sound great. Are they similar to the Mothercare L-shaped pillows? Been thinking about getting one & using it for BF positioning.

Chacha - Will you be observing Ramadan? When you're pregnant can you choose to delay it until you've delivered? I guess you wouldn't want to be the only one in the family doing it.
I thought of you last night when I woke up at 5am & couldn't get back to sleep. Nearly went online for some conversation but stayed in bed till the hunger pangs overcame me.

My lady garden has been tended to by DP!! And no, he doesn't do freelance work!! I shave it a bit myself using braille & memory, but couldn't tell you what the hell it looks like. No doubt the MW will be having a giggle when I'm in labour.

Must go or I'll be on here all day again.

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 14:22

Funny old life, who'd ever have thought that i'd be genuinely excited and pleased with myself at having cleaned the living room, shelving, rugs etc.. Downstairs looks fab! What about you Enthusia? Achieved lots? Yes, i think a new thread should start soon and I think it should have 'stepford wives' in the title...

Karma - Am going to try and fast but if i find it difficult will just stop. I actually enjoy Ramadan, moreso in the Middle East but we still try to create an atmosphere here. Our doors are open for any of you who'd like to sample some Ramadan - I'm serious!

karmamother · 27/09/2005 15:10

ChaCha - when I worked in Riyadh I was asked many times by the locals to partake! I think it's also part of the religious observance if you "spread the word" so to speak. I remember being given an English book explaining the Koran which I found particularly interesting. However, on one of my flights out there, Umra was taking place & there were lots of fat sweaty men getting changed into their robes actually in the aisle!! Put me off my meal.

twinkle1 · 27/09/2005 15:21

afternoon all
just a quickie before i go and get the kids from school.Well very pleased with self today as i have made my nappy stacker and cot tidy with the extra material so i have a fully co-ordinated nursery.Must decorate nursery now
Im suffering from my walk on sun seemed like a good idea at time but now realise 8 miles may have been a little ambitious!!! since then im knackered and i have developed piles from hell (sorry if thats tmi)Anyone got any suggestions to get rid of them pronto????

ChaCha · 27/09/2005 15:31

Hi Karma - Can't imagine what it must have been like to have worked in Riyadh but I have met a few ex-pats who have varying views and opinions. The only thing enticing me to make a trip to Saudi is of course the Umrah/Hajj trip other than that..forget it! Give me Dubai any day
I encourage my non-muslim friends and neighbours to indulge in a little of what we celebrate, INHO it is important if we are to be observe religious tolerance. I'm one of those people who love learning about other people's cultures and ways of life but I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I am starving again and there's nothing worth making in the kitchen.
