ChaCha · 27/09/2005 15:32

Oh Twinkle....poor you

karmamother · 27/09/2005 16:00

Twinkle1 - Wow! 8 miles is impressive when not pg, never mind 7 months pg. As for the piles, good old anusol works a treat. If it doesn't work, Liz Hurley uses it for drying up spots on her face, alledgedly. You could always sit on a bag of frozen peas.

ChaCha - Dubai = top class duty free!! Don't get me started about Saudi - I was there as a MW & I've many a bizarre story if anyone's bored. There was no finesse to the job, you just had to get your gloves on real quick! There was usually no warning of 2nd stage. Still, excellant experience, I had 5 deliveries on one shift once. All 5 women shared 2 first names & 3 last names. Can you imagine how confusing it was to write up the notes? Aah, happy days.

BEKsmum · 27/09/2005 18:11

Afternoon girls, had a nice relaxing day, took Ben to Microsports although realised I'd only got out of the bath 10 minutes before we were due to leave & I hadn't given Ben any lunch - bad mummy!!! Then spent the rest of the afternoon at a friends whose little boy decided to give me lots of cuddles and to climb all over me which he wouldn't normally do - think it must be the bump, he didn't notice it last time round!!!

Enthusia, no great mystery with regards to BC - Rodeo has supposed to have been sorting out her Baby Clothes for the last three weeks and keeps saying that's what she's leaving the pc to go and do and still hasn't done it - I reckon she'll be doing the babygrow in her pocket with a nappy trick again with this one

Diege nce to have you back honey, we wondered where you'd gone, sorry to hear everything has been so stressful for you, but glad that things seem to be sorting themselves out naturally. So we're up for a race then are we? We'll both have to pick a date and see who's closest!!!

Golden wow the babies are a great size aren't they - you must be really pleased or is this because of the gd - which I suppose isn't so clever is it?
The rooms are on a first come first served basis but as the mw pointed out it all seems a great idea to have a private room until your baby crys constantly and you feel you're going out of your head in this little room on your own with no one to sympathise with you or help in any way - fair point. Personally a private room to me spells the beginning of postnatal depression after 5 mins

Right got to go as been called for dinner which I started cooking and then left to dh - speak to you all later BEks

pinkminx79 · 27/09/2005 19:21

wow second lot of boots vouchers?? i'm still waiting on the first!

I'm feeling battered and bruised today following my Tescos fiasco last night, i also think she may pop sooner..

Evening ladies!

Welcome back Diege! Sorry you've had such a worrying time, but glad you are now enjoying thinking about Boots vouchers and hospital bags

How are your BH now Pinkminx, have they settled down? Hope you are feeling better.

Enthusia, yes BC is indeed baby clothes, which is still a job that needs doing and I've been putting it off and putting it off! I'm just going to have to get stuck in v.soon.

Oh and I'm very pleased that some of you think you may pop early! Because I got my date today! and it's........

Monday 10th October !!!

OMG!!

Had growth scan today, baby piling on the ounces, I think 'she' knows she's coming out early as she is now on the top centile and she has the head and abdominal circumference of a 38wk baby, so I'm pleased she won't be too small!

tessasmum · 27/09/2005 20:34

Evening all! I haven't had a chance to catch up on anything here yet so forgive me if I put my foot in it

Found the best cure for lack of sleep - pitch up for a week in a scout camp just outside Bristol, add great weather, stay up talking till 1am most mornings (scaring the pants off single men by relaying pregnancy/birth stories), crash out on air-mattress and sleep like a dream. No idea why it worked, and had been quite anxious that it wouldn't, but have come back relaxed, refreshed and NOT tired

If sleep patterns go back to the way they were before the holiday I may be installing airmattress in living room!

I assume Friday is still on. Tessa is looking forward to the train and I'm looking forward to putting faces to nicknames!

34 weeks

karmamother · 27/09/2005 22:20

Quiet on here tonight. Where are you all? Has Enthusia started another thread & no-one told me?

Enthusia · 28/09/2005 07:38

Morning all

Wow Rodeo, you will have your baby a whole month before me!!!!!! Isn't that in about 3 weeks time, OMG!!!!!

Ok, I am starting to go stir crazy now - help. All my DVDs and CDs are now organised as are the books in the study, and the stationery, and all my PG stuff. Today I plan to do some work in the nursery and then sort out our photos. Am now starting to miss work.

However, as a result I will not be boring anyone to tears with a super long post this morning

Yesterday I ordered my TENs machine, so that was worthwhile - writing the delivery date of the machine made things seem a little closer!

Right might as well go as don't think I have anything left to say today. Must do something tomorrow or will become deadly boring!!!!!

Ldn Meet up

Friday 30 September.

12:30 - Wagamamas, upstairs in the N1 centre. Opposite the Angel Islington tube.

Nova
Goldenoldie
Enthusia
Tessasmum
LilJ
Londoner

I have e-mailed everyone coming with 'real' names/numbers except Londoner - Don't have your real name/number. Can you IM me and I can circulate your details to the others coming.

JemJam - are you coming?

goldenoldie · 28/09/2005 08:24

Beks - I would go for the private room every time. In my experience, if your baby is the one doing all the crying all you are likely to get is dirty looks and irritated sighs from other mums in your room. And the chances are that mine will be OK, but that I will be constantly kept awake by someone elses baby. As much as I want to sympathise, my need for sleep will be greater!

I don't like being watched breastfeeding by the male relatives of complete strangers either.............

GS has only just started so boys growth is all my own work!

Rodeo - good luck, you are first up then!

ChaCha · 28/09/2005 09:21

Rodeo - What great news!!! And Enthusia, not 3 weeks away but something like 12 days!!! I cannot believe it..

I don't really understand how it all works so maybe someone can highlight what the general practise in the hospital is when baby arrives. Are you telling me that I will be sharing a ward with only curtains to separate me and other mothers and listening to their babies cry all night (or my own keeping up everyone else?) In my experience, they never keep the curtains closed long enough to give you any privacy anyway..if this is the case must book private room!! Tell all!

Enthusia - Well done on more organisation. I think a good day of it is an achievement but then it gets tedious and you need to do something else. We had company last night, again tonight and friends staying at the weekend as I feel I'm not socialising enough and HAVE to see people. Will go loopy in here all day otherwise. Have you thought of arranging a coffee morning or the like once/twice a week? We have a get-together now every Tuesday and I look fwd to it.

What does a contraction feel like?

Enthusia · 28/09/2005 09:26

ChaCha - The postnatal ward at my hospital is just like a ward in any other section. The curtains were all open and the mums on beds with their baby's beside them. I am really not sure I fancy that at all as think I will just want some time with my baby, DH and parents. I think I will not be in the mood for socialising!

Unfortunatley there are not many people round here who I know who are around during the day. All my friends work and are only available in the evenings. I am going to go to an NCT Bumps and Babes thing tomorrow and hopefully that will kick start something!

OP posts:
ChaCha · 28/09/2005 09:34

I see what you mean Enthusia. I should go on tomorrow's hospital tour and see what's what i suppose.
Same situation here, friends either work/study or have their own kids and routines. I'm arranging evenings now to compensate but is also difficult as only time I spend with DH. Just trying to strike a balance i suppose.

karmamother · 28/09/2005 10:05

Morning.

Chacha, a contraction is supposed to start at the top of your uterus & spreads downwards. You'll feel it going hard, like a BH. The difference is it will hurt, sorry! Probably starts like period pain, quite crampy. It can go on like this for some hours before they pick up in strength & intensity. Time the interval & the length so you can see if you're making progress. My Bestest advice is to keep on your feet. Walk around, bounce on a birthing ball if you've got one. If you lie in bed, you're not making the most of gravity & the position needed to help the head engage further. What escalates labour most is the baby's head pressing against the cervix. If you feel tired & want to lie down you may end up prolonging the whole thing. Sadly, thats what I did last time. I lost 2 night's sleep whilst in the latent phase so I just wanted to rest. 45 hours from 1st contraction to delivery, yikes. Please stay active as it really does help. Also, everyone stays at home till the pain is unbearable but you may find nothing much has happened when you get to hospital. My rule of thumb is if you can't speak during the contraction & you've lost your sense of humour then go in.

karmamother · 28/09/2005 10:06

BTW hope I haven't scared anyone!

Londoner · 28/09/2005 10:09

Hi all, thanks for being so organised golden, I've sent you my email & name, hopefully.., made me feel really nervous though - throwing aside the cloak of anonymity..
Let me know if I have to do it again as I had to reset my preferences after sending.
Thanks..off to ante-natal check now.... heartburn city here...

BEKsmum · 28/09/2005 11:27

Morning girls,

Rodeo OMG, get the clothes sorted girl!!! that really is early - great news though and glad that bump is such a good size it must make you feel better knowing she's measuring 38 weeks in size. Christ that makes it seem real though eek!!!

Karma love your rule of thumb absolutely spot on I lol when I read it.

Chacha yep you do get to stay in a ward with the other mums with just the curtain to separate you. To be honest i had so much adrenaline coursing through me after Ben was born they could have put me in the car park & I wouldn't have given it a second thought!!!
What did surprise me was that they put a woman who had had a cs at the far end of the ward with me and really took there time getting to her when she buzzed, until at one point she burst into tears because her baby was crying and she couldn't reach it so I went over and picked the baby up for her and passed it over we did this several times for her just to ease her stress!

Having a very lazy day here today as Ben is at pre-school all day and I'm trying to get my ankles and calves to godown before they pop so will be sitting with me feet above my head for as much of the day as possible.

Right best go, good luck to all those with mw appointments today & I'll catch up with you all later BEKS (33+3)

rodeo1 · 28/09/2005 12:46

Morning!

Don't worry Beks, realising it was so soon has given me a kick up the bottom! Have just basecoated the bedroom ready to paint on Saturday, then dp can put the baby hammock up, doing the last baby/hospital bag shop on Sunday, BC will be next on the list. Got an order from Vertbaudet last night, mainly for Bella and Joe, but dp kept pulling out bump clothes that I'd snook on the end of an order. Oops!!

Chacha, I found the ward not too bad, I actually met a good friend for the first time in there. She's the woman who had us all over when we went to Madrid in April, so it's not all that bad honestly! I'm with Beks though and would prefer the ward, I have been in a room before and found it a bit insular and depressing and just wanted to go home. I prefered the bustle of the ward! Although it's a bit of a lottery with whom you share a ward with!

Also, I hate people watching me getting the hang of BF but no-one had a prob with me or dp closing the curtains. I didn't feel my privacy was compromised by being on the ward.

Tessasmum, glad you had a great break! Dp wants us to camp out in the Peak District on Sat night, but I think we'll all freeze in our beds!! I'm not worried though as he'll have forgotton about the idea tomorrow!!

Karmamother, it's brill having our own personal MW on here!!

Right, must go get some lunch. Oh is anyone having trouble with their iron tablets sometimes I'm fine but other times they just make me throw up a couple of hours after taking them. Fine today though!

12 days to go!!!!!!!!!!

Londoner · 28/09/2005 12:50

rodeo, congrats on your delivery date.... wow, that's just 12 days away isn't it.. how exciting!
BTW, got back from ante-natal check & baby is now 4/5 engaged... no wonder I walk like Clint Eastwood.....

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 13:01

hi everyone..
can anyone give me some advice or just help me make up my mind!
we have a cot/bed but want the baby in with us for a while at first so plan to get a crib. We can't decide between a swinging crib, a glider crib, or a baby hammock.
I would post links but my brain isn't working too well today.

ChaCha · 28/09/2005 13:23

I'm useless BoB, I haven't even chosen a cot for him yet. Hopefully some of the others can advise.

Londoner - What does that mean exactly? Baby is on the way out?

Rodeo & Beks - Thanks for info. Rodeo - iron tablets don't seem to be making me puke but there is a change in bowel movement and sorry if that's too much info. I was a bit concerned but read it's okay.

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 13:30

diege- an echogenic focus was detected in our babys heart at the 22 week scan, we were very concerned, but the sonographer was really reassuring and called in the 'big cheese' of the department to do a really thorough scan and talk it through with us. we were told that these things usually mean nothing, and more often than not will dissapear by the time the baby is born. apparantly they are only ever noticed these days because of the sophisticated scanning machines we now have.
i actually have an appoitment with a foetal medicine nurse, but it keeps being postponed so I will let you know what he says if I ever get to see her!
good news for our friends...they have moved back in together and are talking things through. seems they are having problems ttc which is why he left..he apparantly couldnt handle the stress, but has now told dp he understands it's best to support each other..fingers crossed for them - and one less thing for me to worry and get upset about!
Can't believe how soon d-day is approaching, especially for some of you! I'm so excited and can't wait, but we are totally not ready..I need to be kicked into action..hehe
can't wait til the thread turns to 'is this it?' type posts and news of all the arrivals...yay!
we are planning to make the most of these last few weeks by going to the cinema, out for dinner and to galleries and things which will be all but impossible with a newborn.

babyonboard · 28/09/2005 13:33

cacha..me too i just can't decide! I have slight concerns that the swinging crib might tip over..silly I'm sure they are weel built to stop that sort of thing! also the hammocks say suitable for up to 9 months, but surely they would be unsafe once the baby can sit up on his own1?

ChaCha · 28/09/2005 13:50

I haven't even looked into it. I've gone from being overwhelmed to totally laid back about everything. I stressed about prams, didn't know the first thing, couldn't make a decision and then when i least expected it DH dragged me into a pram centre where we found our Jane on sale!! It's always the same.

How are you doing BoB? Feeling okay today?
