BoB - Sounds like my kind of day! I've been making those DIY milkshakes as of late and they are yummy..I have a terrible craving for a pink icing bun right now..mmmm!

Enthusia - Something you said made me think about statistics and I had a look at those for my local hospital. What do you make of these then?

Births per year: 6013%
Induction rate: 25.7%
Caeserean rate: 19.6%
Instrumental delivery: 13%
Normal birth: 40.5%

Apparently the Caeserean rate is better than the national average.

ChaCha · 26/09/2005 15:59

There should not be a percentage sign after no.of births...duh!

Enthusia · 26/09/2005 16:13

Wow your hospital does twice the number of births than mine and your c-section rate is low, mine is around a third!!!!!!

Around 40% normal birth, that sounds good - guess what my hospital does not publish a figure for that!!!!!

The doula I have been speaking to online said that the last time she supported a lady at my hospital she had to share a delivery room as they were so busy and understaffed - I am losing faith!!!!!

Crappola!!!
Well Enthusia, I've got to hand it to you, at least you're doing your homework and are clued up on what is what. Get all your info together and make a decision that suits you. I think the doula idea is fab, really if i didn't have friend with me would think of the same.
Chin up

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 16:31

enthusia..you seem to entirely live up to the conotations of your username!
so much more organized, clued up and..just damn enthusiastic than I can muster the energy for ..hehe
but chacha..i have visions of you as a moulin rouge dancer..heheheehehe

Hi all, just spent catching up with the weekend's posts. You all seem to be suffering from sleep deprivation. It's nature's way, you know, of preparing you for the night feeds! I keep having panic attacks whenever I think of them. I, too, have a kung-fu fighter in here, especially as I'm drifting off to sleep.

Got a busy week ahead of me. Moving with DP next Saturday. Yikes. Yes, we weren't even living together when he impregnated me! Needless to say, I'm sure we'd have moved in together & be considering a baby by now, anyway. So, we've got lots up ahead, getting used to living together followed by the HUGE upheaval of the baby. Its a good job we've both got kids previously. Wish me well!

OMG! Just bought a car! This is to replace the one I wrote off 2 weeks ago. Decided on a Meriva as it's got a nice big boot for the pram. Blimey, new house, new car, new baby. I might have to go out & get a new haircut too!

Hey, you'll not believe what I saw on "City Hospital" this morning. Ainsley Harriet was interviewing a new mum & they were discussing feeding. The mum said her baby wasn't getting enough on the boob so she started her on bottles & she was more settled. (BTW baby only a few days old) To which Ainsley replied, " He obviously needed something a bit richer, then". After a sharp intake of breath, I switched it off in disgust. Any mums-to-be who were undecided about method of feeding were kindly put out of their indecision by a TV chef!!

Off to start packing. Catch up with you all later.

31+3

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 17:53

hahha..Karma..i saw the exact same thing...!
he is so crap, he is always in the baby wards and says really innapropraite or insensitive things..i.e he often calls a girl baby 'he' or calls the baby or parents the wrong name..but this was a particularly bad brain-wrong!
am I right in thinking the woman presenter is the girl in absolutely fabulous!?

tex111 · 26/09/2005 17:58

Hi all, saw the consultant today and got my C-section booked. The big day is.... drumroll please.... 1 November! So I can still stay in the group. Can't get my head around the fact that it's all settled now. So tired after a long night with DS. Going to have some scrambled eggs for dinner and then go straight to bed.

Enthusia, the doula sounds fantastic. I would definitely consider that if I was going for a VABC. I've been reading how women are much more likely to have a successful vaginal birth if they feel personally supported throughout labour. Best of luck to you!

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 18:02

am i as dumb as my dp to not know what vbac means!?
congrats on geeting your date though! and it must be nice to have an exact date, rather than just waiting for the baby to make the decision..hehhee

tex111 · 26/09/2005 18:27

Bob, it's like another language isn't it. VBAC (which is what I meant to type) is 'vaginal birth after cesarean'. I said that if I spontaneously go into labour before the first I would attempt a VBAC. I feel almost phobic about my scar rupturing though. Don't know why I'm so fixated on it. The doc thinks I'll make it to the 1st though.

ChaCha · 26/09/2005 18:29

TEX - That's like 4 weeksish away!!!
Are you ready woman?!?

BoB - He hee! Think it means vaginal birth after caesarian.

Karma - If you're 31+3, you and I are both due on the same date. I don't think i put you on the list or Harpischord...(can't remember the spelling) so I'll update that - soz! Congratulations on all your good news..it's all happening for you at once by the sound of it. I think it's really exciting

I'm cleaning the house, apron on and everything! I'm having lots of fun, I know..I'm sad but it feels very therapeutic. I am craving ... CLEAN!

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 18:31

ha..it is.. i thought, reading back on my post that i had mistyped..was thinking, vaginal...um..um..um..
sorry for being clueless but why are there risks of the scar rupturing during labour?

karmamother · 26/09/2005 21:09

Evening.

Thanks ChaCha, I know I've come into this thread relatively late but it's good to be a part of it. Hope you're managing some sleep. So far, I seem to be doing quite well, lots of pillows help. I have SPD & I get a lot of hip pain when I sleep on my side so I change sides at each loo trip. When it gets to 5am both hips hurt so I stack lots of pilllows up so I can sleep sitting up. DP & I are still doing the deed (its my only exercise!!) so that might be helping me sleep.

BoB - about the VBAC, when you have a CS the incision is made in the lower segment of your uterus as it's actually a bit thinner there. (& the scar is less obvious) This scar means that this area is weaker & during a future labour it can actually split open. I'm sure during a VBAC you'd be on the monitor most of (if not all of) the time. Any sign of fetal distress could be an early warning of scar rupture. Having said that, I came across a Jewish woman many years ago who's first delivery was a CS followed by 8 vaginal deliveries!! They must have stitched her with rope!

Has anyone had any weird dreams about the birth? Last night I dreamt that as I wiped her face clean after she popped out, she looked up & said, "Hi, I'm Suzy". Freaky.

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 21:23

thanks karma..i thought I knew all I neded to but the I go back to my books or the interent and come across new things all the time..
I too have had mad dreams..and many where the bahy talks! i had one a couple of nighs ago where I gave birth to the baby on the steps of my old uni, and he came out talking..he kept saying he was sad his gran wasn't there!?
dp says if the baby comes out talking we should send him back...hehehhhe

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 21:35

Oh..and karma..spd is killer..i have had it for so long now..
i'm learning to manageit.
my pilates teacher had it too, though it's a bit embarassing when she singles me out for instructions in the lessons..heheh
It has helped a lot though i still have a lot of ppain....
there are cerain ways you can change your posture and the way you move around..i.e in and out of bed to help..
still i have it pretty bad. dp has to put on fresh underwear for me every day as I can't manage it myself, but i can dress by pulling skirts over my head.

pinkminx79 · 26/09/2005 22:07

gee, i go to work for one day and theres a gazillion messages aarrgghh!! HEHE!

Just been shopping and freaked out...was looking at baby stuff in tescos when i got this tight feeling in my tummy..took a deep breath and laughed at dp 'i've just had a Braxton Hicks' looked at my watch 640pm. Then it happened again 645pm, then again at 650pm aarrgghh!! but then it went,

just thought id share my scary story lol

xx

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 22:16

argh...why are we getting so many streasses..sorry girls I feel like I am bringing down the mood of our thread with al my troubles...
some of our close friends are having marital problems, and dp is in the pub with him right now and has told him he can come and stay at ours for as long is nekcesary..and he accepted..and is going to move some stuff in tomorrow
very annoying as his wife is one of my closest friends and i bet she won't like him being here..I can't bear the potential politics and heartaches that is bound to come of this...grrrr...
it's fair enough as we have a spare room, and he is a close friend but vic is closer to me..and i think she will have trouble with him being here rather than with her..oh..noo..
damn dp...he doesnt think anything through...

karmamother · 26/09/2005 22:16

BoB - my friend is a physio & she said that walking backwards is supposed to be less painful. Ha ha. Can you imagine it? Actually, I had a very painful back in my last PG so I was given a Fembrace. It's basically a wide elasticated support to wear under your bump. It's supposed to restrict any extra movement of your pelvic bones. It was a life saver whilst I was working but I can manage without it now I'm on Mat leave. Just as well, I've put so much weight on it doesn't fit!! Thats the gestational diabetes for you. Oops, just remembered, must go & do my blood sugar level now.....

karmamother · 26/09/2005 22:22

Oh dear, BoB. What a nightmare. Why don't you plan to meet up with his wife, go for a coffee & just explain the situation you've ended up in? Maintaining contact will show you're still there for her.

pinkminx79 · 26/09/2005 22:23

i've heard about those, look good.

should i be worried about those braxton hicks pains i was getting?

cc

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 22:25

Karma..i got one of those from my osteopath but I found it far too uncomfortable, and as I am not working now I can have the luxury of just snuggling up in whatever position helps..
the only bad thing is during the night is I wake up and get out of bed half dozing and not paying attention..sometimes the pain literally knocks me back..
on a plus note..i just called my friend who is working at glasgow uni and she wasn't in so I spoke to her flatmate who is so lovely and has the most amazing scottish accent...droool! hahahaha
don't tell dp..hehhehe

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 22:30

Well.I was just on the phone to Vic..(can you tell our phonebill is horrific!?) and she is worried about where he will stay etc..she seemed a bit relieved he had turned to us.. i guess she prefers that to some friend..or girl..she doeant know. but this is all very sudden..who knows how it will pan out.

karmamother · 26/09/2005 22:38

BoB, it will be hard to stay neutral in all of this. You might end up like piggy in the middle. Hope it doesn't lead to arguements with DP.

Pinkminx - I've been getting lots of BHs tonight. Frightened the life out of DP when I told him!! They can be uncomfortable but not actually painful, IYSWIM. They're a good sign as it means your uterus is getting stronger with the practise contractions. When I had my DS, my first proper contraction (at least I thought it was my first) woke me up in the night. 15 mins later came the second. Another 15 mins came the third & so on. It was this regularity that told me I was in labour, & of course, they nipped a bit.

I think I get more BH if my bowels/bladder are full. Also, sometimes the movement of bubs can set them off too. I wouldn't worry unless they are becoming more painful with each one.

pinkminx79 · 26/09/2005 22:44

phew thanks hun!! Luckily there were a couple of ambulance drivers in the bread aisle if things got messy LOL

I'm worried cos i have a high pain threshold and cope with pain without thinking twice, just stop, breathe and move on...i worry that i'll do it automatically when labour starts...but then again, like you said, it woke you up..aarrgghh!! I'm getting really worried, bubba number 1 and i have absolutely No idea what to expect!!

I think i'm going to lie down now

night night everyone :::wavey:::

xxxx
