Is anyone up?

I can’t sleep.

My husband was killed in a car crash today.

We’d just moved house and he was so happy.

So very sorry for your loss....my dd died suddenly when I was 20 and I found it very difficult to cry in front of my dm as I knew how much she was grieving and hurting
I hope you have support from your friends to initially help you through the next few days while all the formalities have to be dealt with and the t shirt sounds like a lovely tribute for your dh
Agree that grief counselling may be a good idea for you and the dcs, wish it had been around 30 yrs ago

So very sorry for your terrible loss, Iwant.
Thanks

On a practical note, and because time runs away, this thread will disappear in 90 days, and I'm pretty sure you'll want to keep it. I have no idea how to save a thread, but "Site Matters" will help.

I am so, so sorry. What a shock for you.
I will just repeat what so many have said - please do accept help and support from friends and family, the support and friendly words you will find on here at any hour of the day and night. People want to help, let them. When I lost my partner, my mum filled my freezer with home made food in single portions which was brilliant as I didn't want to cook, but did need to eat.

Whatever you feel is ok - there aren't rules, there isn't any particular way you are 'supposed' to feel. For today, take each minute as it comes, it's the only way you'll get through it. You don't need to think too far ahead just yet.
And the tshirt sounds perfect. My partner was dressed in a new comfy hoodie that I'd bought a few weeks before he died, a tshirt my daughter had bought him and jeans. We wanted him to be warm and comfortable - that may sound daft, but it's what we felt.
Day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, you will get through. And he sounds lovely too.

Love and strength to you and your family.

I will only echo what others have said; whatever you feel;whatever you want to do is fine. Cry,scream, sit quietly, all are ok. You don't have to think about what others think, your feelings are yours. I hope by now others are with you, take any help that is offered and don't be scared to ask for help if you need it. You can be strong if you can, but if you can't you don't have to be , you can stay in bed and just sleep and grieve if you want. I really do feel for you; I can only send you hugs.

My DM was killed in a car crash last year.
Our family liaison officer was/is a great support but don't expect too much information very quickly. You will be numb for a long time but this is the worst bit, the very worst.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

So, so sorry to read this OP. Glad you seem to have a lot of support IRL. Look after yourself Thanks

Readermumof3 · 01/12/2017 06:50

Oh your poor thing - you must be in such shock. This is Mumsnet at its best being there for support at any hour. Keep posting if you find it helpful, many people are here to listen.

The tshirt idea is ace...we dressed my dad in his jeans and checked shirt (with the neck open and sleeves rolled up) as he was happiest like that.

letsdolunch321 · 01/12/2017 06:50

So sorry for your loss. Make time and be open with your children - You all need each other at this tragic time.

Go with your gut feeling on decisions you make and look after yourself. Any loss of life is a shock be gentle on yourselves xx
