Isn't that the point though? What one person thinks is hideous another thinks is the most beautiful name in the world....

Lonnie · 13/05/2010 21:03

I loathe my own name (Lonnie)

I dislike unisex names

Jordan
Morgan
Rowan
etc

never liked Lauren
dont care for names like Cinderella/Chardonnay

my dd1's name has been on here a few times itsjust made me chuckle we named her that 12 years ago and I still love it Im kinda pleased others dont like it means it wont make it to top 10 lol

MammaDavies · 13/05/2010 21:11

Sorry but everytime I see:

Channell
Verity
Felicity
Chantelle
Arabella

I just think of a stripper!

Maybe its TV that's influenced me but god they make me cringe!

You won't win with any name, they always get shortened (saying Lee for Leah, its one more sylable for crying out loud!) but I haven't half laughed at some of these posts

Haven't seen Kirsty mentioned, I was one of about 50 growning up and just dont think it flowed well into adulthood. Good thing I have a nickname eh?

TiggyR · 15/05/2010 08:26

Dannas - God, and I though I was fussy! You have some perfectly lovely names on there! I'd love to know what your DCs are called.

Millie, Molly, Polly, Lily, Tilly, Maisie, Amy,

Completely irrational dislike of Natalie and Lauren

Olivia just because I'm SOOOOOO tired of it. Stop now - pleeease! My face falls every time I hear of another one on a newborn.

Old lady names that should be left in the annuls of history are:

Edna
Hilda
Gertrude
Ada
Enid
Ethel

Anything with a convoluted 'I'm-so-original-me' spelling.

Anything that's made it here from the American ghettos or trailer parks, via Jerry Srpinger and the Disney Channel. Some of them just defy belief. I don't care how poor you are, there is never any excuse for putting shoe-horning unnecessary triple vowels into your child's name.

From my own generation:

Elaine
Lorraine
Beverley
Kimberley
Yvonne
Yvette
Annette
Collette
Patricia
P amela

Also really don't like:

Kylie
Kayleigh
Hayley
Kelly

LittleBeth53 · 15/05/2010 08:35

What a fun thread! I like my own name, which is Bethany & I thank my parents for calling me something you don't hear everyday. I'm sure some would hate it though.

I can't stand "council estate" sounding names like;

chantelle
chardonnay
mercedes
shenieka

When I was in high school, a girl dropped out to have a baby at age 13 & she ended up calling the baby Diamond Champagne Green. Poor kid!

LittleBeth53 · 15/05/2010 08:38

Oh, and I can't understand why some people still call their girls names like Sarah. Just because it's been done to death, it must be the most used girls name on the planet!!

Psammead · 15/05/2010 09:50

I'd say Sarah is quite unusual these days! And quite pretty, really.

I can't believe how many people dislike the name Lucy! I think you're all just jealous of my beautiful little girl :P

TiggyR · 15/05/2010 13:35

I used to be very anti names like Sarah, Emma, Catherine, Elizabeth, on the basis that they were just boring, but being older than most of you, (my eldest is 17) I have witnessed various name crazes, seen patterns develop, and I have seen how a name can go from

a)unusual and slightly mysterious, to
b)trendy, fashion forward, desirable, to
c)dull and run of the mill, every class with have one, to
d)cringily common, naff, dowmarket

In the space of five years! I am (in my middle aged wisdom) finally seeing the benefits of classic, classless, timeless names.

TiggyR · 15/05/2010 13:37

Thought of some more:

Elle
Ellie or (worse) Ellie-May
Elise

kellze · 15/05/2010 13:42

I absolutely detest my name. It seemed at one point if Jeremy Kyle or a similar prog was on the god awful scummy person on the stage was called the same as me, Kelly. Yuk, hate it.

Also, I don't like sweet girl names. I don't much like my DD's name tbh but my DF chose it and has wanted it for years to be his DD's name so we called her Sophia. I absolutely adore her but the name is a bit meh in my book. Sure I'll get over it.

ButIHardlyKnowYou · 15/05/2010 13:47

My name is here! People always say they love it! I guess they could be lying.

I hate Elsbeth(so harsh-sounding!)

Little girl names like Maisie Poppy Evie Ellie Missy Lulu that will be silly on a middle-aged woman

Faddish names that will date horribly: Ruby Betty Peggy (why? WHY would you call a girl Peggy?)

shockers · 15/05/2010 13:54

As a child I was almost phobic about the name Jean.

Also didn't like

Helen
Lynne
Ann
Sandra
Julie
Andrea
Amanda
Christine

Glad to say I've got over it now

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 13:57

ButIHardlyKnowYou - I wouldnt worry, there are loads of lovely names on this thread - IMO, anyway!

LiquoriceLila · 15/05/2010 20:57

Hannah, Olivia and Grace. They are really popular and I don't know what it is about them but I don't like them at all. Also not fussed on Lucy, Elizabeth, Francesca, Darcy, Amy and Ava.

LetThereBeRock · 15/05/2010 21:09
