lets cut to the chase and see what you do not like...

OP posts:

Anything double-barrelled (eg Mackenzie-Rae, Brook-Mai; why oh why do people only double barrel with short and poorly spelled names?), Hayleigh, Kayleigh, Kelly, etc, Chelsea, Charlize, any bastardisation of a perfectly good name, surnames used as first names (eg Taylor, Brook, Mackenzie), Abby/ey,

I could on but I won't

duchesse · 11/05/2010 09:57

Tegan! Hate it. Charlie, Alex etc used as a girl's full name, thereby opening the poor up to a lifetime of potential gender confusion.

RedZora · 11/05/2010 10:02

I don't like Josie either. It should be a lovely name but since that movie Never Been Kissed it has always be Josie Grossie to me.

GooseyLoosey · 11/05/2010 10:07

I think the name of every girl in my daughter's class at school, except hers has come up here. Still its more than made up for by the fact that I think the mentions of my name are well into double figures.

loonyrationalist · 11/05/2010 10:39

Astounded that my name hasn't been mentioned (apart from being a hyphenated examle) Was ubiquitous in the 70's & rarely used now.

Neither of dd's names mentions but that's only because you haven't thought of them, I suspect they are disliked by 80% of people; although wait dd2's probably qualifies as an "old lady name" (wtf!?)

swanandduck · 11/05/2010 11:15

Not mad on the current fashion for 'old lady' names. I really don't like Edith, Ethel, Mildred, Iris, and Ivy.

saslou · 11/05/2010 11:26

When I named my dd, Everyone apart from my dh and mum hated the name, so I have developed a bit of a thick skin now.My nan was very clear in her opinion. Mostly people say 'Hmm, that's different/unusual' when what they mean is that it's a horrible name in their opinion. I love my dds name so chose it anyway. Anyway,I'm rambling. My point is that we all have different taste and that's a great thing. (DD is called Evangeline btw)

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 11/05/2010 11:33

I have no idea why but the only name that I really don't like is melissa..
my name has been mentioned lots on here - I like the fact it is out of fashion and may be it will skip a generation like Betty etc.

swanandduck · 11/05/2010 14:00

I can't stand the name Lauren for some reason, although I think Laura and Lorna are lovely.

Also hate Rebecca being shortened to Becca. That really grates.

KittyBigglesworth · 11/05/2010 14:10

Denise

Katie
Fiona
Victoria
Sharon
Tracy

Dolly
Chloe
Rhiannon or Shannon
Lisa
Cathy
Lindsay
Elise
Claire
Rachel
Missy
Darcey

LetThereBeRock · 11/05/2010 14:15

Betty.

lovechoc · 11/05/2010 14:21

Sophie - too popular now, know too many of them born within past three years.

KERALA1 · 11/05/2010 14:26

Anything really popular and/or faddish. This encompasses Ruby, Lily, Grace, Isabel/lla/, Amelie etc. Anything top 10 really much prefer it when people strike out and show abit of imagination (though within reason obviously ). Love underused classics, have not used it myself but love the name Mary.

As others have said anything over cutesy girly - fine on a toddler but embarrassing for an adult woman. This includes Daisy/Poppy/Trixie etc. Cringe at Jules Oliver's name choices those poor girls. There is a serious news presenter on the BBC atm called Daisy and everytime her name flashes up I think how inappropriate it is.

bossyboop · 11/05/2010 14:39

Why do people not like Ruby I love it and had it on the list for next time!

LetThereBeRock · 11/05/2010 14:45

I just think it isn't a very attractive name. It's very old fashioned and I associate it with a certain type of person, not a flattering image I might add.

bossyboop · 11/05/2010 14:47

its interesting to know tho, I thought it was quite modern to use Ruby these days, perhaps not. What are peoples views on Holly, that was also on my list...

Helenastar · 11/05/2010 14:48

I cant stand the names
Chelsea
Jodie
Kelly
Chantelle
Chanel
Kayleigh
Charlene
Lesley
Kim
Kirsty
Gemma
Cin dy
Lisa
Samantha
Donna
Dawn
and most of the seventies names that I grew up with, and I cant stand the name Gertrude/Gertie!!!
I have noticed that my name is not yet on the list.

notso · 11/05/2010 15:03

DD's name is on here a lot.
So is my name although someone says it's lovely

Personally I'm not keen on Jada/Jordan/Aleesha/Alana/Chardonnay/Tia type names or Felicity/Constance/Arabella/Camilla frilly type names.

bluebump · 11/05/2010 15:09

My name has only featured on here once (so far)...it came up far more frequently on the 'naughty children you've taught/know' names list despite me never being naughty as a child (much!) My sisters name is on here loads (well the shortened version)

Smilehighclub · 11/05/2010 15:37

dd's name is on here loads.love loads of the names listed here ackshully so fark off the lot of you .

And my name isn't mentioned at all even though it's foul.

lovechoc · 11/05/2010 15:38

my own name isn't on this thread (yet), bit surprised because it's very dull and boring.

henry37 · 11/05/2010 15:52

caitlyn really dislike not even sure why.

pedrothellama · 11/05/2010 15:52

Maureen
Noreen etc
Alison
Michelle

Get the picture?

Psammead · 11/05/2010 15:59

Arrgggh!! KittyBigglesworth you got me!

KittyBigglesworth · 11/05/2010 16:18

Fear not, my alias of Kitty is a stripper's name. Well, I suppose I can see the more than obvious connection.
