A post like this always has the potential to offend, though, hasn't it? I've been scanning to see if any of my kids names are on here - and one is.

I think we all invest a lot of time and energy coming up with a name that we feel is right, and it is hard to hear that people don't like what you choose.

I'm not saying that we should all pretend we like the names people post - that's not possible - but there will be people who hate your choice - and that's a good thing, isn't it?

Partyofseven · 10/05/2010 14:17

I have 4 girls and 1 boy. and although my name isn't on here mrsvwoolf managed to hit two of my girls in one go. its hard not to be offended, but i have unusual not daft names, but we like them and the kids seem ok with it (apart from casey jones, cos people of a certain age always mention trains or sing the song to her)

I agree with its not the name, once you get to know children you, don't really think about the name, but there will always be names that people say remind them of a horrible girl/boy i once knew.

OrmRenewed · 10/05/2010 14:17

Not keen on frilly names ending in bel, belle or ette or a. IE I like Louise and not Louisa.

LuluF · 10/05/2010 14:19

OrmRenewed What's wrong with Louisa??? I'm offended!

(not really, it's my name - I didn't pick it) Unless you knew someone called Louisa and it was me - then I might be offended...

OrmRenewed · 10/05/2010 14:20

Oops!

I just prefer Louise but hey, it was only an example. I could find loads more examples and offend everyone!

Sorry.

BridesheadRegardless · 10/05/2010 14:22

This is just personal taste though isn't it?

I've listed those I don't like, but many others will like them, whilst others have listed perfectly lovely names imo like Lucy, Jessica and Grace.

So no one should take offence, it's more about a personal irrational thing.

suiledonne · 10/05/2010 14:22

My name and both my dd's names are on this list.

I think my name is fine but a bit boring and my girl's names are perfect for them so I don't care really.

LuluF · 10/05/2010 14:23

OrmRenewed I'm not really offended!! x

diddl · 10/05/2010 14:27

My name is on here

And as an adult I finally like it!!

mopsyflopsy · 10/05/2010 14:27

Of course lots & lots of people won't like our name choice, just like they prefer different foods, hair styles, music etc. Why are we so surprised at that?

Bumpsadaisie · 10/05/2010 14:27

I really dislike what I call "1950's nightclub" names e.g. Lola and Ruby. They just make me think of peroxide hair, red lipstick and feel slightly too sexual for a little baby girl.

Sorry for offending anyone who has a darling dd called one of these!

My own darling dd is Phoebe, which gets three mentions on the thread so far ...

asdx2 · 10/05/2010 14:27

I hate my own name Donna and then
Natasha,
Kira,
Grace,
Kelly,
Kelsey,
Katrina,
Daisy,
Maisie,
Samantha
Loads actually, could take a while

BridesheadRegardless · 10/05/2010 14:28

See, I dislike Louise but love Louisa.
and names ending in a generally, but not those ending in y or ie.

brogan2 · 10/05/2010 14:30

It is just personal taste. I also dislike Caitlin especially when spelt Caitlyn.

jellybeans · 10/05/2010 14:34

old grannie names...Ada, Constance, Ethel etc.

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:35

I also love Louisa and anything with an a on the end eg Anna rather than Ann

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:36

except Edna

annasophia · 10/05/2010 14:37

Agree with mopsyflopsy, why are we surprised/offended by others not sharing our taste? We probably wouldn't like their choice of names/hairstyle/food either!

It doesnt't mean we don't like a person just because we don't like their name .

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:38

I also don't like anything that is really going out of its way to be bizare. I have a name like that and it was torture. I have had years of being asked to repeat my name followed by sniggering. For this reason I do not like names like Apple Princess or Peaches. Moon unit etc

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:38

sorry about spelling cat in my way

LynetteScavo · 10/05/2010 14:40

Janice
Stacy
Shelley
Kathleen
Leslie
Elspeth
Donna
Susan.

My name and DD's have both been mentioned.

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:41

Oh yes, Elspeth, spitty name.

dotty2 · 10/05/2010 14:45

Don't you find, though, that once you know someone lovely with a certain name it rehabilitates it? One of the nicest people I know is called Edna. And while I wouldn't have used it for a child of mine, I would never cite it as a horrible name now...
