lmao@Chorton!

Blade. Poor kid. The mum was really nice and seemed normal, but was obviously barking

EsmeWeatherwax · 06/12/2008 23:00

Anya was a Buffy character, so that would probably have made me laugh.

Its not the name Freya itself, I mean, for a Norse goddess its a great name, but it sounds really odd to me with a lot of surnames. I always think its overcompensating.

imaginaryfriend · 06/12/2008 23:03

A lovely friend called her ds Wolf. I didn't want to laugh I just didn't know what to say.

littleboyblue · 06/12/2008 23:04

Don't laugh, but when I was pg with ds, I wanted to call him Ford. Thank god for my dp!!

Friend of dhs has a son Kingsley, originally called felix (which I love) but 2 weeks after birth decided Kingsley would be a better choice!!?!

I heard a woman shout for Jubilee, I was looking for a dog to come running, but no it was a little girl !

StephanieByng · 06/12/2008 23:11

A friend heard a little girl being called in from the park - "Liaison! Come 'ere!"

I have to say that babies called Roger and Barabara IS just hysterical - I really really can't stop laughing at the thought. It's Monty Python-esque!

eggnoggins · 06/12/2008 23:11

I know it's a good old fashioned name, and i even considered it myself for a few seconds, but on hearing in a playground recently, 'INIGO come and have your babyccino' i winced big time. usual apologies...

Bluestocking · 06/12/2008 23:12

Ah yes, Esme. Have you met my friends Freya Sidebottom and Freya Higgins?

andlipsticktoo · 06/12/2008 23:18

Mimi, Kiki, Fifi - they're all awful!

I quite like unusual names but some are just a no no! Sailor was possibly the worst girl's name I've heard recently.

EsmeWeatherwax · 06/12/2008 23:18

Lol. Since I'm in Scotland it tends to be Freya McCludgie or similar. Extensively used by role-players and the Dungeons and Dragons fraternity in my experience.

JumpingJellyfish · 06/12/2008 23:19

My good friend named her baby a perfectly acceptable first and second name, however when combined with their surname the initials spell "ZAG". Not sure they had thought of this but can imagine when their DD is older her school mates might have fun with it!

Megglevache · 06/12/2008 23:20

Oh I like most of the names on these lists.

I like Lockets' sons name too.

Hubert rocks especially said with a Frech accent and Hector/Victor too.

I heard a Coco the other day and the mum was such a smuggoid I couldn't resist and said "Oh just like Jo Whiley's and Courtney Coxes baby name isn't it?"

Oh I was given a dirty look. [meh]

MistleSQUONKandWine · 06/12/2008 23:28

twas Lolita that made me snurk to myself.

Finona · 06/12/2008 23:30

When I was in hospital having Freya another woman announced to the cleaner that her wee boy was Spike. The cleaner laughed and said, 'Aye, right, what's his real name?' It was Spike. Much biting of lips and hiding behind curtains from the rest of the ward.

andlipsticktoo · 06/12/2008 23:31

I LOVE Ivy. I know a girl called Ivy and she is gorgeous, her name so suits her.

Have I missed Lockets' son's name? I'm sure I'll like it...

My ds1 is called Hubert!

BibiJesus · 06/12/2008 23:37

I know of a Blade too, you have to be a pretty dynamic kinda kid to carry that. Blade looks like he's destined for accountancy to me tbh.

Megglevache · 06/12/2008 23:40

Yep Rog and Babs god here too.

My next boy is going to be a Douglas/Digger or another old fogey name so I'll have all the snurkin' on here first to get me ready in RL.

Megglevache · 06/12/2008 23:41

Bibi he'd never get away with that if he looked like a wimpy Harry Potter.

There is a Spike at my ds's school. He is so cool it hurts.

No, I've mever had to stifle a giggle. I think all parents put alot of thought into their children's names and I respect that. I have had people tell me they hate dd's name and I want to shout "but I chose it!!!"
