What's the most ridiculous name you've ever heard of/ seen used?

Obviously it's my own fault for choosing the 'one million and 3 baby names' book instead of a more sensible '1000 baby names that are good and you might actually use' book, but COME ON! Some of the names in here are just so ridiculous it's crazy....

Frigg
Schmoopie
Candida
Hitler
Abacus
Flirt
Butter

I can't honestly believe someone would go through this book and think 'hmmm, Sarah, Samantha, Scarlett... Schmoopie. Yes, Schmoopie, the perfect name for our dear daughter.'

And I once looked after a little baby Chlamydia poor foreign parents didn't speak english very well and wanted a name that sounded pretty when you said it

BroccoliSpears · 31/10/2008 21:19

I really hate threads like this.

georgimama · 31/10/2008 21:23

I like Ptolemy. And St John.

Destiny is just awful though.

Broccoli, any of your kids' names mentioned by any chance?

Lonnie · 31/10/2008 21:41

LOl I read the above and thought for a moment someone had named their child Broccoli lol

Olifin · 31/10/2008 21:43

I worked in a school where there were siblings named:

Princessing Lady Jane
Geronimo
Guvnor

There were some older siblings who had already left the school and I wish I knew their names too but sadly don't.

I went to school with a Lincoln Lincoln. I thought that was quite cool really, if a bit unimaginative.

UncleHester · 31/10/2008 21:43

I know a Candida Piel. I kid you not.

BroccoliSpears · 31/10/2008 21:45

Precious Koko sounds like it as African origins. Names such as precious, gift etc very common there, and the surname Koko sounds possibly West African......

Aw Broccoli, my kids have 'ridiculous' names! Maybe we should start a We Like These Names And Don't Care What You Think Club.

FAQ · 31/10/2008 22:39

someone once used one of my DS's names on a thread similar to this - something along the lines of "who on earth calls their child a name like ^that".

I didn't see the thread someone sent me a link afterwards - can't remember who had brought my DS's name up - but there were lots of people that jumped to my defence
