Obviously it's my own fault for choosing the 'one million and 3 baby names' book instead of a more sensible '1000 baby names that are good and you might actually use' book, but COME ON! Some of the names in here are just so ridiculous it's crazy....

Frigg
Schmoopie
Candida
Hitler
Abacus
Flirt
Butter

I can't honestly believe someone would go through this book and think 'hmmm, Sarah, Samantha, Scarlett... Schmoopie. Yes, Schmoopie, the perfect name for our dear daughter.'

And I once looked after a little baby Chlamydia poor foreign parents didn't speak english very well and wanted a name that sounded pretty when you said it

WAYNE KOFF

I heard (from a friend) of a family near us who all called their kids after famous people. Their surname was something totally normal (eg. Clark) - can't actually remember it.
So the family were all named as follows:

Dolly Parton Clark
Tom Jones Clark
Marilyn Monroe Clark
John Wayne Clark etc etc

and the rest of the (quite large) family did the same (eg the cousins etc) so at school there were masses of children with 'famous' names! I can't remember them all as there were too many. Quite funny though!

There was an army bloke on TV in the summer called Major Richard Head.

You could not make it up.

His mummy was right posh, so maybe she'd never lowered her thoughts thus.

LouMacca · 04/11/2008 15:13

lol @ 2Helenback

DCs go to school with a little boy called Tiger. I remarked to one of the mums that I thought he really suited his name. She responded 'why, does he have a striped face?' Thought that was hilarious.

pramspotter · 04/11/2008 16:49

when I had DS1, the woman opposite me in hospital had called her baby girl Serrell.

She said it was because her name was Sorrell and she wanted her baby to have a name a bit like hers...

Simplysally · 04/11/2008 23:07

There was a woman opposite me who gave her son the middle name of England (it was in the run up or the midst of the Euro cup).

I'd love to have twin girls and call them India and Africa .

louisejohnson87 · 10/11/2008 17:29

RinkyDinkyPinky · 10/11/2008 21:02

My friend met a Randy Bender in Canada where neither name is a euphemism.

He swore he would never visit our fair isle!

MumtoCharlieandLola · 10/11/2008 21:19

I worked in the National Child Benefit Centre and we once processed a claim for a child who had really cruel parents. This is no word of a lie, they called the child Ebenezer Finibar Hedgehog with the surname Cringebottom. Their surnames were something like smith and brown.

'Tis true

superloopy · 11/11/2008 02:39

I have a friend with two little girls named Zephyr and Xiola...

Twins who go to playgroup with my DD are named Tayla and Braxton...

babymt · 11/11/2008 11:17

BabyBaby123 - I know a Shakira in West Sussex too. And shes no way arabian. Shes as white british as you can get. I also think its a fairly bad name but probably more so because of the pop star.

Worst I've heard are Wolf and Flash. Oh and a mum of a girl at my school was called Bubbles.
