BV = Blessed Virgin as in BVM - Blessed Virgin Mary aka Sancta Dei Genetrix - holy mother of God.

It seems that person was referring to a vaginal infection 🤷

Mauvish1 · 12/02/2026 13:58

Sorry if I offend anyone with this, but I loathe -

Brontë.

As in Brontë Saurus, I suppose.

Balonz.

I think it's a Marmite name though, some love it, it's just not for me. Too traditional.

It's a great name for a company creating these balls

Someone was asking about Busby on here the other day, I thought that was pretty bad. There are a couple of other infamous ones on here but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Busby was a bird.

Worst name you have ever come across.

I know of an adult Lilith.

I was led to believe it's Welsh.

We know , don't we, girls and boys?

I know someone, no joke, called Godsgift.

Isekaied · 12/02/2026 13:59

It's actually my nephew.

But I cant write it down.

But it's the word for God in our language .

They even had people asking why they named their baby God when he was ill and had to be checked over in hospital.

Can't wait til he starts nursery or school.

If it's the name I'm thinking of I've met 2 people called it.
I'll just add, after years of interviewing people I've heard all sorts of odd names and very strange spellings. I can't tell you half of them because it really would be outing.

I actually came across a Candida today.

Candida used to be a posh English girls' name - along the lines of Camilla, Arabella and Prunella!

I walked Pat a woman who was calling to her kid: Kylon. wtf

I used to know a Kaiser, but the family were not originally from the UK (or any part of Europe) and it was pronounced "Kezza".

This was pronounced like Kaiser Soze , the character from the film "The Usual Suspects ".

Iris2020 · 12/02/2026 14:02

I think Gertrude is the name I like the least that I have actually met someone carrying. But I like creative names in general (though my dc have fairly classical ones)

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 12/02/2026 13:44

True - at least they are only nicknames!

It's a very long time since our DS was the age for them, but isn't Biff (sort of) short for Elizabeth or something? Presumably Chip's actual name is Potato?!

Ok I googled.
Biff is Elizabeth which kind of makes sense (Beth = Biff)
Kipper is Christopher.
Chip is...... David 🤷
If these siblings were real people they'd be in their late 40s now (books first published 1986).
Do you reckon they stuck with their nicknames?

My mum was due on Valentine's Day so her parents planned to call her Valentina! I think that would have been pretty bad. Luckily she was late.

My DS was due on Valentines Day and my pregnancy hormones convinced me Romeo would be cool. My kids are the same gen as the Beckhams.
Thankfully, I was persuaded otherwise. He’s not the romantic type at all.

Teaandwater · 12/02/2026 14:04

You got there first.
Agree with Adolf and Myra although other wicked people haven't had names similarly boycotted.

Agree - Rose is very popular as is Fred/Freddie.

Violinist64 · 12/02/2026 14:05

@Foundress it was true. As was the poir girl I came across many years ago called Holly Mackrell.

Parsleyforme · 12/02/2026 14:06

I used to know a Heathcote (quite nice name) but it was pronounced Heth-cot as though we were all saying it in a northern accent (he and his family were from London). Less Wuthering Heights-esque and more pharmacy chain or fancy care home

I’ve taught an Anakin, a Starr-Rise, a Kyery-Rose and a Duce.

I once taught a James Bond, he was the image of the Miky Bar kid though.

A friend once asked a very young new mum what she was calling her baby and was told Kyumi.

Oh, how unusual, is it a family name?

No, it's a deodorant on the telly.

DGD was born on Valentine's Day. Thankfully you can't tell from her name.

I would not put it past that being the reason she was called Trinity, the nightclub was rough!

I like Trinity, however.
