Just because a name has been used in a book and people haven't heard it outside the context of that book, it doesn't necessarily mean it was taken from that book.

Meriadoc is a perfectly good name of Welsh origin. Like Hermione wasn't invented by JKR, it wasn't just dreamed up for the purposes of LOTR.

And no, none of my children are called Meriadoc...or Hermione, for that matter.

There’s a toothpaste brand in Switzerland (and possibly other countries) with this name, I can’t bring myself to buy it
