Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

Also a girl called Gionna who is English and now in her early 20s. And wishes she was called Georgia or Fiona.

Technically you are correct - but it looks odd, I think. Perhaps quote marks around the name, so, ‘Destiny’s ?

I was going to be called Aurora but thankfully my parents chose a different, though equally rare, name (but at least it is a ‘normal’ name) and compromised on Dawn as a middle name.

They were popular names then - how is that making them ‘the worst name you’ve ever heard’?
I guess, as everything that got super popular, they had to be mocked soon after by certain people (often, teachers).

Of people I know, two random names hyphenated. The child never wanted both names used but the parent always insisted on it and complained about any member of staff that didn't use both. This was yr 7.

But you are also right that Destinys looks odd - I think that's because it's a noun that would usually pluralise to destinies. So Destinys just looks strange as a word.

And I totally agree that to be grammatically correct there should be no apostrophe- but that doesn’t make it look less odd. Anyway, we digress from the point of the thread.

Those 3 names are perfectly ordinary names.
I wouldn't name my child something like Humphrey, Gertrude or Stanley because I simply don't like them. I might think to myself "poor kid" but they are normal names.
There's a difference between a name that not to your taste vs a name like Naziboy or Pineapple.

I don't think it was ever the law that every girl had to be Maria, I think it was just very very popular, and probably encouraged by the Church. I know there are a lot of Marias with a second name to distinguish them eg Maria Carolina, Maria de la Luz, Maria de Pilar, can't find any reference to it being statutory.

A lot of mis-spelt wanky names are naff along with things ie Stone and the ilk.
I don't think some parents should be naming a pet let alone a baby.

Absolute worst was definitely 'Hitler': the first name of someone from a Latin American country, whom I came across in a work context.
