Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

Honestly just thought it was a nice name. I’d like a boy name ending in the ee sound but can’t for the life of me find anything else I like!

What about Lee.

tsmainsqueeze · 21/10/2025 15:59

🙄

lazyarse123 · 21/10/2025 16:00

I usually try not to join in a pile on but that is one God awful name.

Reallyneedsaholiday · 21/10/2025 16:00

Wibey wouldn’t be on my personal list of names, simply because I don’t like it, but that’s “bye the bye” but naming your baby after a film character who was named for “why were you born” is frankly f*ed up. What on Earth are you thinking? 😳

Horses7 · 21/10/2025 16:00

Sorry but it’s a terrible name for your child to endure. Not only does it make no sense but it sounds silly when said out loud - a temptation to bully too in my opinion.

Boggyjo · 21/10/2025 16:00

Not A?

Growlybear83 · 21/10/2025 16:02

Sorry but I think it’s possibly the most ridiculous name I’ve heard, even by Mumsnet standards. What’s wrong with a normal name like Peter or James? Or do you want your child to face being teased for having a mad name for his entire school years?0

BeLilacSloth · 21/10/2025 16:03

Horrible name

BMW6 · 21/10/2025 16:03

I don't think I've ever heard of anything so awful and with so much potential to harm a child.

Seriously give your self a shake.

DolphinOnASkateboard · 21/10/2025 16:04

This is trolling, right?

And if it's not, the fact it looks like it is should maybe give you pause for thought.

ClearFruit · 21/10/2025 16:05

Good God, no. The poor child will be torn to shreds.

What about Lee.

Eddie

Meandmyguy · 21/10/2025 16:06

It's honestly a stupid name, sorry.

surprisebaby12 · 21/10/2025 16:06

I love unusual names but this would be actively difficult for a kid, teenager or man to have as a name. If you’re set on it, I’d pick a longer name and use that as a nickname but absolutely give them the option not to use it.

If you’re looking for a rare or unique name, it’s better to go for more familiar sounds. Eg

Lux
Wilbur
Tabor
Farley
Beck
Jameson
Wilder
Asa
Wiley
Ashby

Chrunchienuts · 21/10/2025 16:07

I also read the “why were you born” explanation, it’s a horrible name.

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 21/10/2025 16:07

BadLad · 21/10/2025 15:34

This is probably the worst name I’ve ever heard.

😂

ForZanyAquaViewer · 21/10/2025 16:08

Is this a joke? 🤣

youalright · 21/10/2025 16:09

Why be thinking up names like that

saraclara · 21/10/2025 16:10

momtoboys · 21/10/2025 14:23

This has to be a windup.

They've been a few name OPs in the last week or so, that I've assumed to be windups.

Linenpickle · 21/10/2025 16:17

Just no. Awful name.

Mulledjuice · 21/10/2025 16:17

I don't need to add to the chorus of No.

If you like the "Wy" at the beginning and like something a bit off-road, what about Wyvern ((or Wynn or Wycliffe (but "wy" pronounced differently in those two))

TiggyTomCat · 21/10/2025 16:17

You might like it but you will regret and if you don't your child certainly will.

user1492809438 · 21/10/2025 16:18

Teacher here. I've had some strange names through my class, but this is up there as bonkers. Do not be so cruel to your child.

Loub1987 · 21/10/2025 16:20

Isnt it short for whyborne in the Coraline movie? As in why we’re your born. No I wouldn’t call a child that.

DandyDenimScroller · 21/10/2025 16:22

Just reminds me of why bird from playdays.
