18 weeks with a baby girl.
I adore the name Olive but our surname is Brown.
Olive Brown.
It’s a bit too Dulux colour chart isn’t it :(

Any other suggestions welcome! (Or change my mind and convince me Olive Brown isn’t ridiculous 😅)

There's nothing wrong with Olive Brown

@KezzaMucklowe

@SheilaFentiman

Only if you watched it with ear defenders on, she was one of the main characters!

Nope completely disagree. I think it's nice. Not everyone in rl will over analyse someone's name the way they do on here.
Op if you like it go for it.

I agree with this tbh.

We thought about how names sounded with the surname, did the initials work.

Think that was it!

Wow I wasn’t expecting this to blow up as much as it has 😅

I’m 33 and aware of On The Buses as I know my mum (66) used to watch it, but I have no idea about any of the characters etc.

There have been some lovely suggestions on here, I really love Freya and Alice but they’re already names in the family ☹️ so anything like those is always welcome! I’m not one for fancy/flairey names like Persephone etc.

Eva is a definite no. 😅😅

What about Ava instead? 😉😂

I went to infants' school with a Teresa Green. I'm utterly convinced her parents did it deliberately.

It's one of the least glamourous names I can think of. It's like Beryl, Vera, Bertha.

Edited

I love all those names so I am clearly out of step with the times!

Pooeys · 29/09/2024 23:00

Have met a few Olives recently. Their parents are intelligent, and mainly professional people who really wouldn’t care about a program back in the 70s !

Flora?
Iris?
Stella?
Mabel?
Rosa?
Imogen?
Annabel?

There was one at my school too! Shock (A Teresa Green!) I wonder if we went to the same school! (Secondary it was. Late 1970s/early 1980s.)

No, mine was primary school, 1966. Glad my friend's parents weren't the only "dafties". 😂

I’ve never really understood the name Olive. Flowery names - Rose, Lily, Daisy - make sense. But who wants to be named after an olive?

Agree - also they are not pretty to look at and are bitter to taste.

They are a type of fruit called a drupe, or stone fruit, and are related to mangoes, cherries, peaches, almonds, and pistachios.

What about Mango or Pistachio? Cherry and Peach is quite sweet though.

Drivingoverlemons · 01/10/2024 19:59

Evidently the name comes from the Latin word for olive tree (Oliva) and is associated with peace (from the bible).
