18 weeks with a baby girl.
I adore the name Olive but our surname is Brown.
Olive Brown.
It’s a bit too Dulux colour chart isn’t it :(

Any other suggestions welcome! (Or change my mind and convince me Olive Brown isn’t ridiculous 😅)

Olive Brown is lovely but it does sound like a paint colour to me, sorry 😔

Do you like Margot or Eliza? I always think of them as similar to Olive in that they’re pretty variations on traditional names.

Or the suggestion of Olivia nn Olive is a good one 😊

SheilaFentiman · 27/09/2024 20:59

Could you double barrel her? “Olive Jackson-Brown” or something would be better than Olive Brown.

Gemma? Katy? Alyssa? Alice?

oakleaffy · 27/09/2024 21:00

Olivia Brown is lovely.

Normally I don't like names on these threads, but Olivia Brown sounds like she'd be a lovely girl.

A ''good egg''.

Fathercrispness · 27/09/2024 21:00

Now you’ve said it I can’t un-think it! But I’m not sure I would have twigged otherwise. I do know the palest ginger little girl called Olive and I can’t help but feel the name doesn’t suit her!

I was going to suggest Hazel but I think that’s worse!

How about Maeve?

It’s lovely but it’s like calling a child John Smith. You’d never find her in a Google search (which might not be the worst thing)

Well our family still laugh at the fact my great grandmother became Olive Wood on marriage, which was unfortunate. With the greatest of respect, there are many nicer names out there, plus of your husband isn't on board it isn't the name for your daughter.

SmugglersHaunt · 27/09/2024 21:02

Olive Brown is a great name!

BurbageBrook · 27/09/2024 21:03

No no no. Sounds like a rather staid character from a children's book. Sorry 🙈

BunnyLake · 27/09/2024 21:04

I used to know an Olive Brown. Paint colours never occurred to me.

I do like it, I just think it’s a bit done to death, it’s everywhere!
Does leave potential for Olive as a NN though 👀

My son has a REALLY well used name- it's a classic, and my brother has the same name.

It really doesn't matter that a name is popular or has been 'done to death'.

Olive is awful!

The trouble with Olive is it will always be Olive from On the Buses to certain age groups (mine) but I guess for younger parents they won’t have that association.

choccytime · 27/09/2024 21:07

My mum was an Olive , its lovely

donkeyleg · 27/09/2024 21:09

It's a lovely name. Seriously though who's going to think it's a paint name unless your a " Mumsnetter"
You choose what you want, don't let other people put you off

On the Buses was 1969-1973. I know there have been repeats but I think it’s OK to use Olive!

Sethera · 27/09/2024 21:13

Arthur! Arthur!😀

My mind goes to Popeyes girlfriend 😅 i thinks its a nice name though. One PP suggested Alice - I really like the name Alice Brown

Eva Brown does sound like Eva Braun. I would avoid due to the unpleasant association.
