18 weeks with a baby girl.
I adore the name Olive but our surname is Brown.
Olive Brown.
It’s a bit too Dulux colour chart isn’t it :(

Any other suggestions welcome! (Or change my mind and convince me Olive Brown isn’t ridiculous 😅)

Olive Brown is indeed a 'good egg' name.

Olive Brown is brilliant.

She'll be brilliant.

I'll be annoyed if you don't @MrsB2019x.

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 00:07

And 'On The Buses' is a bit ancient as a reference even for me at 51.

I'm not sure anyone of childbearing age has ever even heard of it.

Olive Brown is a lovely name .

I agree

ODFOx · 28/09/2024 00:45

Olive Brown is absolutely fine.
If your surname was Green I'd be naysaying.
She'll be Libby or Liv by the time she's 13 anyway, and they are both great with Brown 🙂

Do the younger generation REALLY laugh at names like Debbie and Tracy? Confused

I doubt it.

I wouldnt say "laugh at" but (I am 51) my generation wouldnt call our kids Jeanette, Jean, Patricia, Marian, Tina, Linda etc as those were the names our mothers had so were "old fashioned". Same as my kids wouldnt call their kids Emma, Ruth, Susan, Jane, Debbie, Tracey, Sharon etc as those are my generations names.

Olive Brown would be the kind dependent one at Mallory Towers who would make Daryl feel bad for losing her temper.

That's exactly who Olive Brown would be.

Icantstaymarriedtoyoudavid · 28/09/2024 00:57

or a 2024 contemporary version of the name - like Olive Gray

Actress, daughter of Carrie and David Grant, born 1994, had a part in Fleabag, and Eastenders.

I married a man with a very pedestrian name (Jones).

I didn't change my name.

Our daughter is called Cecily Alexandra Jones.

Our son Llewellyn Kingdom Jones.

Olive Brown is of a similar and brilliant ilk.

I agree

I'd feel sorry for a child lumbered with such an ugly name.

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 01:02

Which name @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle?

There are millions of beautiful girls names to choose from and you chose Olive! Why?

My next door neighbours constantly yapping, black Gremlin (French bulldog) is called Olive -not that it recognises its name because it’s shoved out the garden in all winds and weathers and the RSPCA couldn’t give a toss - may have influenced my distain at the name Olive.

What about Olivia? Much better

We’re married so have the same surname

Most of my friends are married. None of them have changed their names. It’s not compulsory

Lovely names but not something I would share on an unsecure chat forum. Especially one that regularly gets threads pinched by the tabloids, you might want to report your post to MN to get it removed, your kids will thank you later.

Love Olive, but also:

Livia
Lidia
Gia
Serefina
Saffron
Hazel
Shaina
Eloise

OpalGoose · 28/09/2024 02:01

Has anyone suggested Georgia yet?

The one the thread is about- Olive.

Bournetilly · 28/09/2024 02:15

Olive is lovely. There’s nothing wrong with Olive Brown, kids wouldn’t associate Olive with a colour.

I sort of agree.

Bit also don't give a shite.

Meh!

Gloriana1 · 28/09/2024 03:28

I work tech-adjacent.

I'm always, you absolutely can find me. It would take you about five minutes.

I have never pretended to be hidden, I don't blat my children all over but everyone is findable.

We live in a very connected world.
