I thought I'd make another, follow-on, thread as the first filled up quickly and was so interesting

So, what’s the most unusual name you have ever come across in daily life?

Jago, which I thought was really cool.

I'm Cornish and never knew anyone with this name growing up, or when my eldest children were in school, only as a surname, but it seem to become popular over the past few years. There's quite a few now as well as Kitto and Loveday.

@Vroomfondleswaistcoat Ah it was the name of a boy I taught a long time ago. I was told at the time it was Japanese for drum, but maybe I was misinformed. Definitely unusual at any rate.

Not in daily life, but I was once in a group with a lady who had 3 children. One girl was called Twinkle and one boy was Sprout. I can't remember the third.

Dynwen (Welsh patron saint of lovers)

Lots of names ending in “wen” in Welsh would be quite unusual - my sister in law and her daughter, my niece, both have names like that but would be outing to share!

fatphalange · 22/01/2024 16:10

Grew up as the forriner so had peers like Lala, Nemesis, Sultana and loads more that aren't really unusual but just from different cultures.

An influencer's children Renaelia and Oriavella are some of the most...unique I've heard

I see we've had the Ladasha mention. Wouldn't be a name thread without it!

A little girl called Isis. Named after the ancient Egyptian goddess but an unfortunate choice in the 21st century.

@MotherOfCatBoy , the Welsh patron saint of lovers is Dwynwen

I have a 17 year old Jago and he loves his name. He doesn't use his surname in college!

Thadeus/Thaddeus is the name of Judas the Zealot, one of Jesus' 12 disciples. I love it!

I always loved this name and wanted to use it for a daughter (just as well I didn't, although the stigma nowadays is hopefully somewhat reduced)

CaffeinateMeQuick · 22/01/2024 17:52

Tallis - he was a Welsh guy. I'd never heard the name before but really like it.
