I thought I'd make another, follow-on, thread as the first filled up quickly and was so interesting

So, what’s the most unusual name you have ever come across in daily life?

Tink, Pilot, Bollinger. Last two were siblings.

swedishgirl · 22/01/2024 21:24

Fionnuala. I now understand that's its fairly common Irish name, but when I first saw it written down (birth announcement via text) I thought it was so unusual and didn't have a clue how pronounce it correctly.

GreyDuck · 22/01/2024 21:33

Pebble, I misread it as Debbie, and was corrected.
Princess (as a first name)

Lancelot.

I can't remember the exact name, but something like Morris Thomas James Lloyd Jones. I couldn't guess where the forenames ended and surname began.

Hoss, John-Wayne & Cheyenne (parents were cowboys & indians film fans.)Mum knew a Cavina born in Chiselhurst caves.

I remember hearing about Cavina when we went on a tour there!! During WW2 iirc, they used it as a bomb shelter.

I am sure in some areas of the world it might be a perfectly normal name

The LaDashAh myth appeared quickly. 🙄
Not even 25 posts in

Was it accompanied by the phrase 'I shit you not' or its more polite but no less annoying 'I kid you not'? Even though there's a 98% chance that they most certainly are!

Cecilia (spelt like this - only known two)

We have one with that spelling after her paternal grandmother.

miniaturepixieonacid · 28/01/2024 10:04

I only contributed one name (Chymme) to the last thread as she is the only person I've ever met who I believe may genuinely be uniquely named. But I have come across loads of others that have to be quite unusual and that I've certainly only encountered once:

Atlanta, Rosie-Lilac, Ptolemy, Tigerlily, Nerilly, Antigone, Hezekiah, Kayjay, Jolyon, Fitch, Tree, Boaz, Athene, Lysander, Einstein, Tassita, Lilli-Kitty

Plus names that are or were common for adults but are very unusual when you come across them in the classroom today:

Gavin, Kevin, Deborah, Clyde, Richard

Plus loads of names from other cultures, most often Nigeria, Iran and India that may well not be unusual at all but are one offs to me. And often extremely long sp have great nicknames too.

I love names. There's literally only a handful that I really can't get on board with. And unusual ones are nearly always fabulous, ime.

Pozz · 28/01/2024 10:07

rainbowstardrops · 28/01/2024 10:08

I've known a Merlin, Jago and a Blue.
