Husband and I have finally made our final choices. But still, we are stuck, so please send tell me which ones do you prefer, be as honest as you want ( Not easily offended). We don't know the sex , and I am due at the end of this month.

His choice
A girl: Harper-Rose
A boy : Levi

My choices
G: Victoria
B: Owen

Which do you prefer ?

Not keen on any of them personally sorry, they are quite 'common' If you really forced me to choose then Harper without the '-rose' and Owen.

needachance · 19/07/2022 05:02

Dare I say, neither.

At a push Victoria, but that'll be shortened to Vicki/vicky and I'm not keen on that.

I hate hyphenated names so I'd say Harper or Victoria, Levi is dated now and sounds a bit chavvy but Owen isn't a very nice name either

Nothing wrong with the name Owen

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 19/07/2022 05:04

Mumsnet snobbery on this thread!

babyjellyfish · 19/07/2022 07:09

If these names need to work in a French speaking country then surely Harper is a complete no-no?

needachance · 19/07/2022 07:59

@KalvinPhillipsBoots

Is it snobbery, or just a personal choice/opinion? If you post a question you will expect to get positive and negative responses.

erm... you cant state your opinion as a fact correcting someone elses opinion.

I guess you have an Owen? sorry you are discoving now that its a marmite name but people are entitled to think its 'not nice' all they want and its nothing to do with 'snobbery' at all, as many people have said Clement is awful and they are wildly different classes of name lol.

Annoyedwithmyself · 19/07/2022 10:23

Clement is gorgeous!

Owen is fine, just a bit timid and dry to me. Euan is nicer. I do like a biblical name but Levi was either a tax collector or a vengeful mass killer.

Darryl-Ann and James- Rose though? Why not Kevin-Marie? Gary- Sue?

Out of the girls names, Victoria, hands down.

Panamii · 19/07/2022 11:05

Rose and Levi. Levi is not chavvy. People are just being ignorant. It's an Old Testament name! I know a few boy Levi's all are Jewish.

MerryChristmasToYou · 19/07/2022 12:33

@Panamii , there are a lot of Old Testament names that aren't really suitable for non-Jewish use in the UK. The name Levi isn't 'chavvy' in itself but probably appeals only to a minority. It's too closely associated with jeans for me. I'm not keen on the overtly OT names anyway

I like the name Enoch but wouldn't use it.

Panamii · 19/07/2022 13:13

Jacob, Daniel and David are all Old Testament names. I don't see them as for Jewish families only. Ezra has become popular and that's one that wasn't heard outside Jewish circles until recently. I think Levi is perfectly fine.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/07/2022 13:27

Owen is awful, sorry. Baby Owen - just no. The rest are fine (minus the Rose). I quite like Levi for a girl rather than a boy

needachance · 19/07/2022 13:29

I love a biblical name. Mine is. My son has two biblical names, but me, I like really old fashioned girls names like Betty, Ivy, Betsy, Eve/Evie, Grace, Lotte, Iris ... or for a boy Jacob, Isaac, Noah, Jonah, Gabriel (all very biblical), I'm not overly religious either, just love the names.

MerryChristmasToYou · 19/07/2022 13:35

@Panamii, really, you do surprise me. I had no idea that David, Jacob and Daniel were OT names. Every day a school day, eh?

I'm being sarcastic. Those names have been in regular use for centuries. Ezra was only used if there was a jewish connection until recently. Popularity probably increased from a celebrity association. Names that surge in popularity tend to become dated quite quickly and are not universally liked.

Memyselfandfood · 19/07/2022 14:02

His girl name, love it! if i had to pick between the boys name guess it would be yours.

A580Hojas · 19/07/2022 14:03

Victoria. Not keen on either boy name, sorry.

Titsflyingsouth · 19/07/2022 15:50

I don't like any of the girls names tbh.

Have an Owen of my own so totally biased 🙂

WorryMcGee · 19/07/2022 15:53

Levi just makes me think of Levi Bellfield (but I listen to too many true crime podcasts so I’m probably broken)

A580Hojas · 19/07/2022 21:30

Yes I think Bellfield is why I can't like the name Levi. It's quite a rare Christian name and so just has that association.

GoldenSpiral · 22/07/2022 07:51

Victoria and Owen

Wannabeewallaby · 22/07/2022 23:00

His are chavvy, yours are nice!
