Husband and I have finally made our final choices. But still, we are stuck, so please send tell me which ones do you prefer, be as honest as you want ( Not easily offended). We don't know the sex , and I am due at the end of this month.

His choice
A girl: Harper-Rose
A boy : Levi

My choices
G: Victoria
B: Owen

Which do you prefer ?

I would only go with Levi for a boy. It's not a girls name at all!

babyjellyfish · 18/07/2022 09:34

Yours are nice, Harper-Rose is awful and I'm not hugely keen on Levi.

He only suggested hyphenated names , apart from all the Levi-Rose , Levi-something , the other ones were truly horrible. Such as Kayla-Rose , Holly-May , Daryl-Ann, James(his name)-Rose.

I absolutely hate it. I have 9 more days. I might just name him/her.

So no Clement, as I see, I like that it means "merciful". I like the meaning of Victoria too and can really picture myself with a little Victoria.

Other boys names I like are Jack , Mason, Donovan and Tristan

Some people might call me a snob for saying this, but I think giving your daughter a hyphenated name these days will put her at a social disadvantage. Don't do it.

You’re not a snob, just realistic that people are very judgemental and will pigeonhole anyone.

It’s the exact same reason why posters would tell an OP not to call their kid Clement or Peregrine or something seen as an upper class name.

Best to pick a name that would work across class boundaries, and OP’s picks do that.

I really dislike Harper-Rose, Mason and Donovan. Victoria and Owen and Jack are fine but a bit bland. Rose on its own would be fine.

I like Levi, Margot and Tristan.

DontPassMeBy · 18/07/2022 10:35

Harper (without Rose) and Owen. Congratulations!

WinterMusings · 18/07/2022 10:38

FitAt50 · 18/07/2022 07:47

Heck you beat me to it ☺️

No way could I live with his!

I wouldn't choose yours personally, but out of the two sets, they're by far the best.

I think you're going to need to start over.

WinterMusings · 18/07/2022 10:39

If you're with someone who has such awful vastly different taste in names, do you find this with lots of other things in your life- decor/holidays/tv.??

stormelf · 18/07/2022 10:41

I prefer Levi for a boy over Owen. I'm not keen on either Harper-Rose or Victoria but if I had to choose one I'd go for Victoria. I like Toria and Tori and nicknames over Vicky.

andi62 · 18/07/2022 11:39

Victoria, maybe I like it because one of my daughters is called Adelaide!

SafeHeaven · 18/07/2022 11:59

Levi are jeans, and its a chavvy name and has an association with a serial killer.

There are so many nice names out there, i think you need to widen your search.

ladygindiva · 18/07/2022 12:01

Victoria ( Harper is very on trend but I don't like it ) and Levi. Owen is ok though. So you win overall for me

FreudayNight · 18/07/2022 12:03

Yours are way better.
his are awful.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 18/07/2022 12:14

Harper will date badly, it will never be a classic. In fact, the hyphenation will make it date twice as badly.

Levi has dated already. As has Victoria, although I will concede it is at least a classic so not so badly. Owen. Just no.

drpet49 · 18/07/2022 12:18

Harper & Levi. I can’t stand double barrelled first names

drpet49 · 18/07/2022 12:19

^What like Rose as in Rose West. You know, the serial killer.

Jujy · 18/07/2022 12:20

Harper (Rose as middle name but not hyphenated)
Levi

TuftyMarmoset · 18/07/2022 12:21

Victoria and Levi. I don’t like hyphenated names.

Ted as in Bundy
Fred as in West
Jack as in ripper
I don't think of Levi as a serial killer name any more than the above names, as in, not at all.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 18/07/2022 12:30

Victoria and Owen out of those choices, definitely!

If he likes Lexi, maybe Vix is a similar vibe for a nickname for a little Victoria? I knew one at school. You wouldn't have to use it but it could be a bit of compromise maybe?

mam0918 · 18/07/2022 13:08

While I will say I'm personally not a fan of Ian because it does remind me of two of the biggest killers in this country (Ian Brady and Ian Huntley) I think in general most serial killer FISRT names are totally usable.

They are just normal names and I even think the same for Adolph (which has a long history before WW2) I mean people didnt write of Joseph (starlin, mengele etc...) as a name and they where equally evil people.

So unless the name is West, Huntley, Bundy, Gacy, Dahmer etc... I dont think you can say its obscure enough in first name use to be a serial killer name.

sanityisamyth · 18/07/2022 13:11

None of them, except maybe Victoria.

CatherinedeBourgh · 18/07/2022 13:12

Harper Rose and Owen. Don't like the other two.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 18/07/2022 13:14

I’ve taught several boys named Levi… all of them total bellends. Your names are much nicer.

GreenClock · 18/07/2022 13:18

I love Victoria but none of the nicknames. That said, Victoria Beckham and Victoria Coren Mitchell are known as “Victoria” so it’s possible that it won’t be shortened.

Owen is very nice. A classy name.

I quite like Daryl for a girl. Obviously not hyphenated with something, though.
