Brother for Nirvana and Jude

Zoomer122 · 07/06/2022 18:05

We are looking for a brother name to go with older sister Nirvana and older brother Jude.
I am in love with both dc’s names,Nirvana was initially named after the band that me and dp both really love but when we looked into the meaning it just settled it for us, and with Jude we got inspiration from the beetle song

these are some names that we like but can’t use:
Hendrix-we didn’t love the nn options and we weren’t quite feeling it
Fender-we loved the connection to Fender amps and guitars but it didn’t feel like a complete name for us
Bowie- dp top choice right now with possible longer name Boden but we already have a Beau in our family who often gets called Bowie
Blues-family don’t feel like it’s a proper name to use
Indie-my top choice and I’m trying to convince dp
Fox-this is my second choice but don’t like the nickname possibly of foxy

We are quite settled on the middle name options either Michael or Beesley after my late grandfather

I hate Jaxon. Why do people do this? Is it a deliberate choice to appear illiterate?

saraclara · 08/06/2022 07:56

"...them names"? Okay, maybe it's not a choice

peachaay · 08/06/2022 07:59

Its difficult to suggest names when we don’t know the other bands/music you love. I think that’s what’s making this feel a bit posey and faddy, that you just want a name that sounds kind of cool rather than, like Nirvana - one you say means a huge amount to you.

I think something like Dylan or Harrison might give a nod to music when heard in conjunction with your other children whilst also not limiting your child.

I will admit that I raised my eyebrows a bit at the name Nirvana at first but actually it's pretty especially if shortened to Vana.
Enzo is fab. Good luck OP and ignore the pearl clutchers!

I am far far from a pearl clutcher.

I quite like 50 cent

But if you are in the UK then 50 pence would be more appropriate.

WimpoleHat · 08/06/2022 08:31

why should I have to stick to society’s norms

You don’t. In any context. But with naming children, you are making a choice that has a huge impact on them, likely as not for their whole lives. So you have a responsibility as a parent to think through all the implications of that choice. It is not the same as naming a pet. It is not (at least in my opinion) an opportunity for you to demonstrate your musical preferences or your quirkiness.

We went to a kids’ science talk a year or so ago. Young PhD student presenting. “Hi”, he said “my name’s Lord and I’m your presenter today. And yes, Lord is really my name and no, I don’t know why or what they were thinking.” And everyone laughed and he did his talk. But it occurred to me afterwards - that is the reality of his life. Every time he introduced himself, that’s the patter he felt he had to come out with. Think about how many times you give your name in an average day. It must be awful. And while you might deem Simon a “boring” name, I’ve never known my BIL have to do anything other than say “Hi - I’m Simon”.

Nawww you can’t call a child Dakota, how about Texas or Tennessee? 😭 you do realise a name is for life

I've heard of a Dakota going by Kody.

If it's states OP is after, Oklahoma is a nice mouthful

I love your current children's' names. Jude was on my list for my son. I think if you go for another musical themed name it will be too matchy/themed. From your list I like Indie/Indigo for a girl or Fox or Blue instead of Blues for a boy.

eggandonion · 08/06/2022 09:48

I like your kids names too.
My daughter has an appointment with a surgeon called Cherry, which is a sort of 'you can't call a baby that, it isn't the name of a professional ' vibe. But she has all the letters after her name, I'm sure Nirvana will be just fine.

Hoowhoowho · 08/06/2022 10:33

I wouldn’t worry about the MN reaction, I got several ‘poor kids’ when I asked on here about a name for my third born. Nobody likes my kids’ names either.

Jude is a bog standard name. Nirvana is a bit more out there, I’d be tempted to stick to the theme and go middle of the road for number three. Indie actually works well, climbing the charts so not out there weird but still a little odd.

ermagerdabear · 08/06/2022 10:51

I like your kids names too. FWIW, I know a Nirvana who was was named that before the band was even heard of and I think it's pretty cool.

Oldfilmsareshit · 08/06/2022 16:16

I’m not sure naming a child Enzo is fair considering drug slang….and as someone said Kurt did love the Benzos

Balonz is lovely through. Expresses your quirky, crazy, edgy side

Zoomer122 · 08/06/2022 17:11

Me and dp have finally decided on Indy/Indie Michael but don’t know which spelling to choose
we wanted to use the full name Indiana (I bet most MN would think this is probably to “unique”)but it’s to confusing with nirvana’s name, so if anyone has any longer name options apart from Indiana and Indigo that would be helpful

OP posts:
ZarquonsSandals · 08/06/2022 17:45

Indie could be a nickname for Indiana, Indran, Indigo or Indra. You could look at old english/germanic names for similar names beginning with I, if you're not 100% committed. I know someone who has used some beautiful names for their kids, but they don't fit with your I letter theme :)

Forthefirst · 08/06/2022 17:53

Oldfilmsareshit · 07/06/2022 18:29

This is cringey. It’s your kids names for life not your music preferences that need to be considered. What if they hate indie/ grunge. What if you had been called Disco or Jive or Twist? Don’t lumber them any more….

Have to agree. Poor kids. At least go Michael as middle name so the child has an option when older. So selfish to call children after your own stupid musical preferences.

Oldfilmsareshit · 08/06/2022 17:53

Indie Nightclub
Indie tunes
indie hit
or Indie Sleaze after the website

Forthefirst · 08/06/2022 17:58

How about calling your child

‘Bowling for soup’ Beezley
‘Limp bizkit’ Michael or just ‘Limp Michael’

Chaoslatte · 08/06/2022 17:59

Indie sounds like a female name to me. Indigo is ok but I’d probably still think they were a girl. Inigo is better for a boy imo. Indiana is a weird choice if you’ve never been there. That’s also not even Indiana Jones’s first name in the franchise - it’s actually Henry.

Zoomer122 · 08/06/2022 18:10

@Forthefirst I get that everyone thinks this is all quite funny and a few of the comments I am taking personally but I guess that’s what I get for posting on MN hahaha
but this comment really personally got to me both Michael and Beesley have such a special meaning to me and for them to get the Micky taken out of them hurts me a bit especially when everyone dosnt know the full story
