Brother for Nirvana and Jude

Zoomer122 · 07/06/2022 18:05

We are looking for a brother name to go with older sister Nirvana and older brother Jude.
I am in love with both dc’s names,Nirvana was initially named after the band that me and dp both really love but when we looked into the meaning it just settled it for us, and with Jude we got inspiration from the beetle song

these are some names that we like but can’t use:
Hendrix-we didn’t love the nn options and we weren’t quite feeling it
Fender-we loved the connection to Fender amps and guitars but it didn’t feel like a complete name for us
Bowie- dp top choice right now with possible longer name Boden but we already have a Beau in our family who often gets called Bowie
Blues-family don’t feel like it’s a proper name to use
Indie-my top choice and I’m trying to convince dp
Fox-this is my second choice but don’t like the nickname possibly of foxy

We are quite settled on the middle name options either Michael or Beesley after my late grandfather

Another vote for Jesus, but pronounced
Heeeey- zoos
Which would go nicely with Heeeey Jude 😁

@Margotshypotheticaldog

Why is “Jesus” or as you so blithely put it, Heeeey- zoos… so amusing to you?

There are hundreds of thousands of Hispanics named Jesus who then name their sons Jesus.

Wow. Just wow.

AllKnowingGerbil · 07/06/2022 20:33

Griffin

Don't know why just sounds of a similar ilk

TambourineOfRepentance · 07/06/2022 20:35

Honestly some people on here need to remember these are (most likely) real children's names

Well yes, that's the problem! The people naming their children Fender or Slash are the ones who seem to need reminding that they aren't naming a video game avatar.

But its not a problem though is it? It affects you in absolutely no way and provided the parents are happy with their choice then that's that. The child will either grow up to like or dislike their name, but that can happen whether they Fender or Gerald or Joe.

Plenty of people like unusual names, what you deem as being unacceptable many of people don't.

And criticism of names someone has already used is just bitchy and pointless.

KirstenBlest · 07/06/2022 19:34

@Snoken, MN likes non-English middle-aged persons names and insisting on the original pronunciation is ridiculous and anyone can say it correctly after you've told them once

Good to know! Sören it is then:)

debwong · 07/06/2022 20:41

I think it would be best to go with names that rhyme with Nirvana.

Sultana
Banana
Gymkhana
Mañana
Klarna

Margotshypotheticaldog · 07/06/2022 20:42

@ Idreamofthemoors I was pointing out the correct pronunciation of the name does in fact go nicely with the theme. Generally people in this part of the world pronounce it Geee zus.
Not particularly amused by it, I'm just in a good mood.

ZarquonsSandals · 07/06/2022 20:44

Jaxon has really been overdone in the past few years.
If you liked the idea if names associated with Hinduism, maybe look at some of those.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 07/06/2022 20:45

How is Sören pronounced?
Now I'm thinking maybe Zeus...

Zoomer122 · 07/06/2022 20:45

why should I have to stick to society’s norms
I can give so many examples of other peoples more unusual names.Just because you wouldn’t name your children Nirvana and Jude dosnt mean you have to make me feel like I’ve burdened my kids with bad names. My kids are healthy and happy and that is all that matters, all I wanted wise a sibling name for there baby brother!

I didn’t realise my kids names were that controversial!!😳
Me and dh both love there names and so do our family’s and I have no regrets
Nirvana wasn’t just named after the band!hahaha
she was named due to the concept in Hinduism, Nirvana means "bliss" or being in "a transcendent state free from suffering”
And as for the spelling mistake on the Beatles totally my fault forgot to proof read

Are you and dp Hindus?

ObiWankyKnobber · 07/06/2022 20:49

Chaoslatte · 07/06/2022 20:49

Fender really is bordering on child cruelty. Ever heard the term fender bender?

What about Freddie?

Cheesesteak · 07/06/2022 20:55

Jude is a really normal ordinary boys name. No idea why people are thinking that is unusual or weird.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/06/2022 21:07

Oh OP…

Seriously not Fender. Seriously. Or Hendrix or Blues. They are not a collection of musical smurfs.

Blue is Ok I’d say. Or Fox if it’s a boy.

MintyMoocow · 07/06/2022 21:17

Brian
Kevin
John
Arthur.

Poor little mite!

Beelezebub · 07/06/2022 21:17

Beesley makes me think of Max Beesley. Actor now but for me will always be one of the musicians on one of Take That’s 90s tours.

please avoid Slash. No one wants to be named after colloquial terminology for going for a piss.

You don't have to. You can name them near enough whatever you like, be it Bono, Adolf or Keith. It's a free country.

I find it somewhat hard to believe that you've been unaware until this thread that Nirvana might be a contentious name- your family and friends must take a far more tentative approach than mine- but that's rather beside the point.

No name is objectively bad- they're just collections of letters etc etc
It is, however, a collection of letters that your child (unless they change it themselves) is going to have all their life. On every school register, at every job interview, whenever they introduce themselves to a person. And, however wrong or unfair it may be, some of those names are going to put a child (or adult) at a disadvantage or even just become an annoyance.

This isn't a case of "You aren't ever going to get an orthopedic surgeon called Alabama." Because of course you could. But having every other person you meet going "Wait what?" Or "like the state?" becomes irritating. Having to explain to people that it was your dad's love of Alabama 3- a band you have no particular love for - that resulted in you having a name that has kids at school laughing when they hear it gets old pretty quickly.

Just because it shouldn't necessarily be the case doesn't mean that it isn't. There are many societal norms which could do with being broken, but children not commonly being named after their parents favourite band/music genre isn't really one of them.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 07/06/2022 21:23

ladydimitrescu · 07/06/2022 18:59

Please don't use any of those names.
You cannot have children called nirvana and Hendrix.

I used to work with the hospital paediatricians (NHS) and I'll be honest some of the names were ridiculous and staff in hospitals and schools do have a giggle 🤭
Please consider your kids and their future potential careers

Figgygal · 07/06/2022 21:26

Please not Jaxon its truly truly awful
And that is in context of some other names that have been suggested here

Minimalme · 07/06/2022 21:27

Nothing wrong with your dc names - Nirvana is unusual but lots of names are.

But you are poking the bear with 'Beesley' and 'Fender' surely? And insisting on a music connection for all three kids is just making your life harder than it needs to be.

Bournetilly · 07/06/2022 21:30

Jude is not a controversial name at all, it’s actually quite popular now (I know of a few children named Jude) and a normal name!
I think people are more likely commenting on the name Nirvana.
Please give your child a proper name to go alongside Jude. At least Nirvana can be shortened.

BellaVida · 07/06/2022 21:34

Jude’s a great name, Nirvana is a certainly different.

My top pick would be Lennon nn Lenny
