Back again!! We now have a top three! Baby girl due in five weeks! No negativity to any of the names please as she will more then likely end up as one, I do know they aren't to everyone's taste. But our current list is;

Juniper (my absolute favourite)
Pepper (husband adores this name)
Nessie (we both quite like)

Just opinion on which you would go for please as I said no negativity on any, took us forever to agree on three 😂

Thank you ladies xxx

Juniper is such a cute name! I like Juniper best then Pepper then Nessie. All are nice though

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/05/2021 17:58

I think Pepper will be misheard as Pippa a lot of the time. I know a small child called Ember and her parents are always having to correct people who think it's Amber.

Nessie short for Vanessa is lovely

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/05/2021 18:00

I love Juniper

Ewanispurple · 04/05/2021 18:20

Juniper is lovely Smile

Moonlaserbearwolf · 04/05/2021 18:30

I used to love Pepper because of the character in Annie. But when I hear it now I can’t stop thinking of Peppa pig and that awful music! I could never chose it for that reason, but maybe the association would be lost after a while?

I like Nessie as a nickname to Vanessa. Juniper is lovely too. Probably my favourite of your selection, with Vanessa (Nessie) a very close second.

Justasecondnow · 04/05/2021 18:32

People using a less challenging name, but using a nick name from day 1, using that name in school etc is getting more common..

E.g. Name on birth certificate Elizabeth, name used from day 1 - Effie.

Means you pick the name you love and your child has options as an adult. So an obvious one for you would be Vanessa on birth certificate but you call her Nessie as does everyone else. Maybe June or Pippa on birth certificate but you call her Juniper. For Pepper - maybe Persephone or Penelope or Patricia.

I’ve noticed people doing this more and more.. but I like all your names - with Juniper as my favourite so just a thought!

imnotprincessbubblegum · 04/05/2021 18:34

Juniper is lovely.

I'd prefer Nellie to Nessie.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 04/05/2021 18:36

Juniper is Ok.
Pepper sounds like a dog's name.
Please don't go for Nessie - the poor kid will be in for a lifetime of Loch Ness Monster jokes. Trying to be respectable as requested, but it's a cruel thing to do to a kid IMO...

brogan02 · 04/05/2021 18:57

I think nessie is super cute but agree with others possibly a nickname for vanessa

JemimaJoy · 04/05/2021 18:57

Juniper

AlmostSummer21 · 04/05/2021 18:59

From your next list, I love Robin (with the i, not y- it's no longer m/f). I used to look after one, she was gorgeous, cute & a bit feisty.

And Darcey

Ginny is ok too.

Not so keen on Sybil party due to hearing Basil Fawlty every time it's mentioned! Esther has a bit of a dated, housekeeper vibe for me.

partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 19:13
 • Juniper is quite nice, though quite little girly. Juno is more grown up
 • It isn’t fair to call someone Pepper - your husband doesn’t have to live with it, and that’s without the pig association
 • Nessie isn’t great as a full name, becos if she’s ever chubby people will have a riot with the lochness monster - but as a nn for Vanessa it’s grand
partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 19:16

2nd list:
Robin is my favourite
Love Esther
Like Sybil
Darcy is a bit low rent

UCOinanOCG · 04/05/2021 20:00

From your second list I love Esther.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 04/05/2021 20:27

Juniper.

Pepper Pig is far too popular for a kid survive school with that name.

Nessie is cute but obviously brings to mind the Loch Ness monster.

ivfgottwins · 04/05/2021 20:31

Juniper is a bit of a mouthful and I have children with lots of syllables in their names

I'm a big believer in why giving a name to a child when you are going to shorten it anyway?

I like Pepper

Nessie is a bit.....Twilight...that's what springs to mind with that name. I prefer Vanessa

Out of your second list Esther is the best

Chilldonaldchill · 04/05/2021 20:54

Juniper is great.
The others are not for me

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/05/2021 21:56

Juniper makes me want a G&T

Pepper makes me want steak with peppercorn sauce

Nessie makes me think Loch Ness monster but it's ok as an abbreviation of Vanessa. Probably the best one IMO.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/05/2021 21:59
@DotDotDotDotDot I looove Harriet 😱but a very close cousin with the same surname has a Harry :( so can't do that! X
You absolutely can! No one owns a name, and they are different names anyway!

DramaAlpaca · 04/05/2021 22:02

Of the three, definitely Juniper.

Holly60 · 04/05/2021 22:03

Juniper is lovely. Next favourite is Pepper. Go with Juniper though, it’s so pretty

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/05/2021 22:04

Darcey is a lovely name IMO

inappropriateraspberry · 04/05/2021 22:07

My cat is called Pepper!
I do like Juniper and imagine it would naturally get shortened to Juni.
I agree with PP, Vanessa would be good as a long form name with Ness/Nessa/Nessie as a nn. Then she would have alternatives as she gets older.

Nerdybirdy · 04/05/2021 22:09

I have skin in the game here as I have a “quirky” name that isn’t actually a name (well, it is if you’re a mythical being, cheers Mum). I have had a lifetime of explaining it, of people saying “Gosh, that’s...unusual!”, of people making assumptions about my lifestyle/diet/job/class/background when they hear it or see it written down.

Speaking as the owner of a name very much in the spirit of your list: please reconsider. I would much, much rather have a name that is an actual name. There are plenty of unusual and out-there names that are actual names, not monsters or spices. And ultimately it is your child who carries this for the rest of her life. Pepper is a nickname. But for the love of God, call her Philippa or something then she can drop Pepper as soon as she’s old enough if she wants to.

Sexnotgender · 04/05/2021 22:12

Juniper is my favourite.

Used to work with a lovely lady called Ness, short for Vanessa but she was always Ness.

Don’t like Pepper.
